Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Anyone else slightly confused as to why Kevin Doyle was welcomed onto the pitch like a Messiah this afternoon?

I think Benik Afobe in the 6 weeks he's been here has done more than Doyle mustered in his last 2 and a half seasons. And let us not forget his 'motivation' speech.

It was probably more out of support/encouragement than recognition, we are supporters after all

They probably thought it was Dave Edwards - it looks like they have the same barber.

Some on here are quick to forget that he kept us up that first season almost single-handedly. KJ has said today that he'll use him again essentially because we lack forwards! As I said on the comms thread I'd rather have him on the bench than no forwards at all. I'd like to see him get another goal for us before he departs.

He obviously doesn't have a future at the club but in our current situation, he is a sensible short-term option to have on the bench as he can cover the striker or Number 10 role.

Despite his fall from grace in recent years, I'll always have fond memories of those first 20 months where he was magnificent.

I agree . He may not be much longer in a Wolves shirt but I will always love him for what he did in the premier for the Wolves cause . He wanted to give his all for Wolves . Us.

That aside, yes we need to move on now , but god bless Doyler for when we were up there. Sorry if that upsets the Doyle haters - yes you know who you are - but his reception today showed what The Wolverhampton and Black Country think , not what molineuxmix think.

He was cheered by a few as he came on (there were a lot more people not cheering) to only be anonymous after. If he wanted to get his knees dirty he would have slid in to the perfect pass from VLP at the death!

    I'm serious. And there's a difference.

Have you opened this thread to rant at anyone who disagrees? The reception shown clearly shows you're in a minority?

I too liked Doyle in 2009/10 and he had his moments the season after, but since then he has offered absolutely nothing. Taken his mass amounts of wages and openly admitted he didn't want to play for us because we were in a league he didn't fancy, a league he helped us fall into.

Whether i'm in a minority or not is irrelevant, im putting across my point.

I'm perfectly happy to see Doyle complete his contract with us. If he can provide at least one or two goals between now and the end of the season, fantastic. On the balance of play, he's been a good servant to the club.

What he said was that he found it difficult to motivate himself in Div 1. He had been demoted twice. He was fantastic for us in the prem. Always gave his all.

Very pleased for the reception today. We ask for loyalty. You are not giving him a lot.

Your entitled to your viewManchester . I'm not saying whether 90% today were right or 10% who hAte him are right. Either may be right. I am just pleased 90 % feel the same as me and remember what he went thru, perhaps appreciating it was the club who failed to progress not him .

I know my post will create a load of posts against him. I don't care cos the vast majority today clearly care, at least in some respects, for Doyler

He's been fine for us, things have tailed off a bit for him and we have given him millions recently for little return but I think it's a testament to his professionalism that Jackett still willingly has him as an option.

Absolutely. The comments were ill-judged but I could actually understand where he was coming from.

Looking over his whole Wolves career, he was phenomenal for 20 months in the Premier League, dreadful for 6 months in the Championship and average in League One. Overall though, he (and others like Karl Henry, Stephen Ward and even McCarthy) gave us some fantastic times which I'll always remember fondly.

He has no long-term future here (Afobe and Dicko are our partnership going forward) and the fact he is even on our bench is a bit of a damning indictment of our transfer activity, but it would be great if his time here could end on a bit more of a high. Both he and us deserve it.

Without sounding sarcastic, maybe he got a good reception because he was about to come on to play for Wolves?

It was the same with O'Hara last season, I remember when he came on against Stevenage, the reaction was certainly more positive than negative, even though off the field he is to a man abhorred and detested. I think the attitude with any of the 'Group 3' players is that they're not part of the manager's long term plans, but they're there to be used if needs be.

The fact is, anybody who pulls on the Wolves shirt gets my support whilst they're doing it. I'm more than happy to moan and grumble about players after the game, before the game, but for the 90+ minutes, I back them, no questions asked. I'm sure many fans feel the same.

Yep. I think that's why there was a rapturous response when Edwards scored, loads around me thought it was Doyle.

I was glad Doyle got a good response but, I never thought for a minute that he wouldn't.

Great to see a good reception for Doyle. For a season and a half in the prem he was superb. I've never, ever seen a centre forward occupy an entire back 4 all on his own.

Really? The likes of Lee Hughes would get no backing from me.

Nice to hear about Doylers reception though, loved him in his prime here.

Some are also quick to forget that he was one of many that played a part in a double relegation by not playing to their full potential.

I'm not putting him in the same bracket as Rojo or O'Hara by any means - but Doyle's body language also suggested he had given up the fight far too early (as did others).

Doyle was fantastic for 18 months or so - but he's contributed far less in the time he's been here than the brief period he played well for.

He's seemingly exempt from the criticism other former players have had though because "he's a nice guy" and "has a touch of class about him" and looks nice on the ball.

*awaits the start of KD cliche bingo lines of it's not his fault - "McCarthy broke him" and "the midfield was $$$$"*

Only being Wolves fans / on MOLMIX could I get home from winning 5.0 and the first thread I read is someone moaning about the reception one of OUR players got when coming on as sub!!

I for one was surprised, but very happy at the reception he got! We are paying him a fantastic wage and if KJ wants him on the bench I back him 100%!!

    This.

Did he really get much chance? Not saying he shouldn't have been dropped but it's a difficult task to show what you can do or your worth when you aren't picked. And that isn't a dig at KJ either.

    And this.

    :confused::confused:

Must be motivated by his love of the game then, which is why he's taken a pay cut to leave so he can play games. Oh wait, no he hasn't, he's sat on his backside all season.

I'm a big believer in supporting players who are wearing the shirt and playing for the club, personally. Never been a "booer".

Wolves need a third choice striker after Nouha Dicko and Benik Afobe. Look at the other strikers currently contracted to Wolves. Leon Clarke has never been a Championship player, Björn Sigurðarson has never really convinced, and, for the moment at least, Jake Cassidy and Liam McAlinden are miles away from being Championship players. In my opinion, Doyle is the next best option after Dicko and Afobe.

Kevin Doyle has been a good Premiership player in the past, so if you get him fit, who knows what he could do? I mean, the odds are he'll just go when his contract runs out, but you never know. Football is a funny game. Never say never.
