My son, also a Wolves fan, was listening to a radio football phone in yesterday when a Watford fan said that it was strongly rumoured that O'Toole was on his way to Wolves for £1 million in the transfer window. Apparently Watford are seeking to reduce debt.

I work for an irish company and one of my colleagues said we'd looked at a loi player called fahey, presumably not siobhan the ex shakespeares sister and bananarama vocalist.

Unlikely,as we already have Stearman,Craddock,Collins,Shackell and probably Mancienne for the rest of the season.

He's described as tought tackiling midfielder.

Netherton you are right, apparently he does qualify for Ireland through his grandparents.

Very good player. He is 20 and 6'2" with some skill and pace.

I would take him for sure

I thought they were centre-halves not midfielders?

Having Irish grandparents doesn't necessarily make you Irish...something I can attest to!

He was one of the best players on the park when we played them at Vicarage Road, I'd be delighted if it turned out to be true.

Based only on what I've seen so far - which is only a couple of games - I don't rate him that much; he's ok for the Championship but I don't think he can make the step-up.

He scored a flurry of goals at one stage that attracted the scouts but I question whether it might have been a flash in the pan.

Just posted on GloryHorns the watford message board, but much feedback yet. One really rates him and thinks £1m is a steal, the other thinks he is not good enough for the prem.

ok thats what i thought. he is the type of battling midfield we need! from what a remember he gets stuck in and always goes into a tackle. good addition if it happens.

Watford fans rate him highly and he would be a great addition. Get Gobern and Jarvis fit as well and our weak points suddenly become a hell of a lot better.

Surely his name alone qualifies him as Irish whether his grandparents are from Papau New Guinea. The first time I ever heard of hime, the first thing I thought was I bet he's Irish.

    Do they?

"He's alrite in the Championship but he would be well out of his depth in the prem.

He gets goals, is physicaly strong and works hard but he lacks in pace, skill, agility, positional awareness and he could be better on the ball.

It would be a shame coz he's only 20 but I can see him going in Jan as I dont think he's the type of player Brendan will want and coz we need the money ect.

Williamson is better than John Joe but if we sell John Joe and Williamson gets injured/suspended then we'd only have defensive midfielders to pick from. "

Someone mentioned it last night on Danny Kelly's show in the run up to the League Cup game.

Ripped us apart at Vicarage Road this season and last.

Seems to be very good at this level, but I'd say he is very similar to D. Edwards. What does that mean for him?.... Davies? Gleeson?

"Ripped us apart" is very generous.

The David Edwards comparison is a good one. Much like Fryatt, I don't think he's as good as what we have on our books, regardless of his merits. I don't really see a use for him and I don't see the point of signing players who are unlikely to be good enough to step up to the next level. We already have enough of those.

Didn't he score in both of them? Certainly looked better than what we had in centre midfield both times. Only 2 games admittedly but he certainly looked very good.

If Watford fans genuinely don't rate him above Lee Williamson then he is as average as I believed him to be. Wouldn't have him over any of our current crop of centre midfielders and would never have tagged him as a £1m player.

Now there's a thought. The first time Wolves mentioned that Gobern was getting close to fitness I missed it because I was concerned about the Cuban missile crisis

You may have seen in the rest of the thread that I posted about John-Joe on the watford board. As I was browsing their site I took a look at the "McAnuff out of our club poll"!!!!

To say they consider him to be the biggest waste of space, money and good oxygen is the understatement of the year. Which came as a massive shock to me because I always thought he was a good player. Anyway he has been complete rubbish for them apparrently and never worth the £1.7m they paid and a massive drain on their finances!

I am sure he can't have become a bad player in such a short time but they really, really don't like him one little bit!

I'm sure we can offer them D.Ward and some cash for him!!! He isnt a bad player, maybe a bit demotivated with all the comings and goings at the club and maybe needs a fresh start!!!

That's a rich seam of comic potential you've opened up there, mate, but I'm not sure about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Too obscure for the younger readers, and too recent for the older ones. How about:

"The last time Gobern passed a fitness test, it was for National Service," (bu-dum, crash!)

    Or

"There's no reason why Gobern won't recover from his injury; he's done it before -- I remember them removing the leeches."

    Or

"Gobern was unfortunate with the timing of his injury; if it had been a couple of weeks earlier, Jesus would have been able to perform the treatment."

Alternatively, we could try and tie in the historical comparison with the game of football, e.g.

"I hope somebody has the foresight to explain to Gobern that keepers can't pick up backpasses anymore,"

    Or

"Before Gobern's injury, I really thought he'd become an international; I even bought tickets for the Home Internationals in case he played."

    Or

"Earlier this week, Lewis Gobern issued a terse response to critics questioning his injury record. 'People saying I've been out of the game too long are just stirring up trouble,' he said, 'I don't believe those people have the best interests of St Luke's at heart."

    Or

"Lewis Gobern denied that he lacked motivation to return from injury. 'It's rubbish,' he said, 'I'm Wolves through and through. I have blue and white blood running through my veins.'

Running out of steam now but you get the idea. If Tommy Docherty's reading this he'll be lapping it up.

Not for Watford he isn't, didn't they have a run of pretty decent results after signing Ward on loan?

Yes, he is a bad player for watford too. He just looks better cuz they are $$$$
