    For the collapse.
For us to fade below Reading and Blues.

or are you now confident we will continue and gain Auto.

  2. Someone stole my tarot cards. I just didn't see it coming.

So I would rather not try and predict the future.

  3. The chances of us winning any serious silverware in the foreseeable is remote. The best possible feeling of achievement a club our size could have is to have one of 'those' seasons when someone runs away with the league, scores shedloads of goals and wins a preposterous proportion of games. This could be that year, and it's ****ing exciting.

    BUT, until this happens:-

Four more games and we're half-way through the season, we can no longer be considered a flash in the pan.

Reading destroyed us but don't have our level of consistency, Blues are a bigger threat but I don't think they have the character in the side to carry them through a difficult championship winter.

  5. I'm not 'waiting' for a collapse in the same way I'm not 'waiting' for a meteor to hit DY8 and my house to be destroyed - doesn't mean I don't fear it happening.

At the moment, I'm simply enjoying looking at the league table.

For a long time I was expecting it to tail off, but now that it's not I feel a bit more confident. I do think we'll go up automatically actually, we're just winning so many games that it's looking foolish NOT to back us, whatever is thrown at us we're steadily gaining points. We'll probably have a bad spell and I don't expect us to finish 1st, but hopefully we've got a big enough cushion on Reading that we shouldn't drop far below them (if at all) at any point during the season, putting us in a good position to go up.

  8. I am not counting my chickens, there is a long way to go, etc etc.

But, to answer your question - yes, based on the season to date, I am confident we will finish in the top 2. Seems we havent played our best football in every of the last 7 matches, but we won every one of them. Thats what gets a team promoted

As each game passes and we gain another 3 pts, it's becoming increasingly likely that we'll go up automatically, but I'm not going to say I'm confident about it.

We've had our fingers burnt too many times in the past to make that mistake again!

If we beat Blues and QPR though, then I may just struggle to hold myself back...

By my very nature I'm always waiting for things to go wrong. Couple this with years of average performances by Wolves and I'm always worrying about the next game.

That said, I've never had so much faith in a manager and squad of players - it is just difficult to shake off the pesimistic mindset! I can't see anyone catching us, it would take a massive slump from us and a massive winning run from another side. We've already shown we have the minerals to fight our way out of a slump too.

I'm not going to vote for 'yes we'll get auto' as I fear that'll put the kiss of death on it. Ah, there is that pesimism again.

I think most Wolves fans are waiting for something to go wrong. It did when we lost to Reading, Swansea and Norwich within a couple of weeks. But to bounce back from that with 7 straight wins gives me the confidence to believe we will remain in the top 2 for the rest of the season.

God, no - I refuse to count any chickens at this stage. Have you learned nothing over the years???

I am, however, enjoying every moment whilst it lasts, which may or may not be till the end of the season.

We've all seen it before. Until I see KH holding aloft the Championship trophy I will refuse to admit that we stand a chance, not because I don't believe I just daren't admit it!

  15. I think if we are 20 points ahead of 3rd place with 10 games left we will go up :)

Like others I hate tempting fate so haven't voted.

However, 3 points on Saturday would be absolutely monumental and would go a long way to securing a top two finish. Personally, I'm absolutley bricking it.

If I'm honest, I'm not expecting us to collapse but what I am waiting for is the inevitable Wolves luck where we will lose Kightly, SEB, Iwelumo long term and Mancienne will end up going to a Premiership team in January. Causing our form to dip, que accusations of Wolves being bottle jobs! But them I am a terrible pessimist, and secretly I want to say to everyone this is our year at last!

I wouldn't say we don't have any confidence Glasgow, it's just after what has happened in the past most people are (rightly) being cautious, and incredibly nervous, and not shouting about our current success from the rooftops.

Remember the Birmingham fans singing "one-nil, to the champions" in November 2006 at their place?

It's funny: Wolves fans have a reputation among other clubs as being the big "I am" in this division, always assuming they'll go up and never doing so. The reality is quite different.

The boys have shown they've got the ability and the mental strength to take the division, and thus far we've had enough depth to the squad to ride out minor injury crises. But injuries are still my worry, as it's the only thing that could stop us.

Because amongst our own fans, who you would think would know better than anyone else, we have a reputation for "bottling" or "choking" promotion chases.

The reality is that one season aside (when, as a whole, our form wasn't really that good - I've been through this before and I'll go through it again if we have to), we rarely get anywhere near automatic promotion and float around the outskirts of the playoffs, sometimes getting in, mostly not.

Usually, when we have a key match - usually away - we lose. even the big home matches we slip up and draw. This season is different. We are winning these games, last night a prime example. Equally, it is tempting to see the visit of BCFC as a match where we play well but lose. I reckon it will be different on saturday. A win, and probably a comfortable one. We are a much better team, with momentum. McLeish strikes me as a safety first manager, and that is why we will win.

The win last night against thugs utd was clearly very significant for the team and supporters alike... belief has reached a new level

But as wolves supporters we always remember the choke season and take nothing for granted

Quite where that leaves us, who the $$$$ knows?

I'm surprised anyone will vote based on our past chicken counting

Lets just say we seem to have all the building blocks in place and good form at the moment, if we are still in a similar position at Easter i'll get the abacus out.

What I expect from Wolves is exactly what we are getting at the moment, i'm delighted they are currently doing that it doesnt happen many seasons

It does amuse one how so many people believe that they, as individuals, hold an influence over our potential success, or indeed failure. Fate, chicken counting, superstitions, past choke season etc. etc. have no bearing on the outcome of football matches or where we will finish this season.

The only thing shouting from the rooftops will do is make you look a tit amongst your peers if it does all come crashing down, but, it is not a cause and effect relationship. Believe it or not.

Personally, I have told close friends that promotion is pretty much a shoe in, barring a major major injury crisis, without being cocky about it. But I've not been rounding up Blue noses and West Brom fans and making announcements from a soap box or anything as there is still a long way to go, of course.

But, what I have said since Tuesday to people, beat Blues on Saturday and it's pretty much game over, party preparations can commence.

Feel free to tag this and hunt me down if it all goes wrong because confidently, but not arrogantly, we are going up.

Most think we will get promoted, but not many are really confident.

We are seen as Johnny big $$$$$$$$ always expecting to be challenging for Automatic.

As DW, said we very rarely are, I can only think of one season where we were even close to auto.

I don'e believe we choked, I was speaking to someone in the club week after it happened, and he said the players did not choke, we had a reasonable run, nothing spectacular but a reasonable run.
Albion won it they had an unbelievable run, they won just about every game they played.

Instead of blaming the players / manager we should have congratulated Albion on a spell of form that was not just promotion form it was run away with the division form.

I lok at this team, and I see a better squad, a fitter squad, and a better manager, 1 who has walked away with this division before.

I am not confident we will beat Blues on Saturday, but the only reason, is we have to do something extraordinary, we have to do something no Wolves team has done since 1953.
I am not worried about Blues, I think we are better, stronger, fitter, and younger. I am worried about history.

I don't think we will win on Sat, but then again this team have already broken 1 record, maybe they are destined to break another.

I am confident we will go up automatically, We have shown we can cope with injuries, we have shown we can fight, we have shown we can finish the lesser teams off.

If Blues lose Phillips for any length of time, will the cope, I don't think so.

An injury to Doyle, and Hunt will Reading cope, I don't think so.

    We are going up guys.

    "I dont believe we choked"

Just for the record, Wolves were top on 2nd March 2002, 10 pts clear of 3rd place with 9 games to go. They then proceeded to win only one of the next 7 games, collecting a total of just 6 points out of a possible 21. Just 3 more points and they would have been promoted.

It was a "choke" of the most major proportions, accompanied by an Albion flourish that gained in strength precisely because they could see their rivals floudering....

Hence caution this season. We could easily be just 10 pts ahead of Reading come the start of March and face exactly the same kind of pressure.

  35. Someone mentioned turgid football under Jones. The accumulation of 86 then 81 goals in successive seasons suggests otherwise, of course. The lack of objectivity towards Dave Jones remains a strange tendency amongst a minority of Wolves fans.

We have 2 that are scoring, Iwuelmo and SEB.

if either is injured the other will still score.
Last season once SEB and Keogh got together they scored 20 goals in 20 games.

So we would still get the goals.

It was a reading fan who said, if you want to look at Blues and Wolves squads.

They bring on players of real quality in Phillips, and Keogh. We don''t.

We have 4 forwards who would get into the starting 11 of any team other than Blues. Even then SEB, and Iwuelmo, and Keogh would get into the Blues team.

I was still worried at 3-1 on Tuesday though that was probably because of the game rather than the thought of collapse.

If we're still there at Christmas then it's ours to lose.

  40. A good post apart from the bit in bold, which is probably one of the most ludicrous statements I've ever seen on here - we went from a 7-match winning run to picking up 10 points from the next 9 games. If that's not a choke, I really don't know what is! Yes, credit where its due to Albion, because they certainly did have a great run of form, but the fact is that that auto spot was ours to lose, and we managed to lose it in spectacular fashion!

Back to the original topic, no I don't think we'll mess it up this time. I think we've got not only some of the best players we've had here in my lifetime, we've got a team that is worth more than the sum of its parts, which is definitely something I've never seen from a Wolves side before.

The club seems professional from the top down, and that reflects well on absolutely everybody involved. Now isn't the time for back-slapping and champagne, the title won't be won on saturday, just as it won't be the end of the world if we get beaten (although I'm sure some on here will argue differently). Personally I'd accept a draw now, but I'm confident we can beat them - I don't think they're a good enough unit to stop us!
