Ive seen endless threads on here saying we need 2pts per game, 88 points will get you promoted on average, and also the very annoying we need 1 more point than the team that finishes 3rd which on average over the past few seasons is 84.

So now its time to discount all those threads after tonights results because this is turning out to be a very unique season in which i can honestly see a team with 90+ points failing to go up.

Wolves, Birmingham and Reading all look like sides that would walk the league but for the first time ever we have 3 very strong sides in the the same league.

Both us and bloose are on course to break the 100 points barrier while Reading are close to the 2 pts per game target with an easy home game with Norwich coming up. Reading seem to be getting better and better.

so lets predict how many points we will need to finish in the top 2. Im going for 95pts

    92 minimum I reckon.

  3. Reading had 4 shots on goal apparently tonight.

They don't look convincing and seem to be riding their luck butttt are getting the results needed.

Just pray for Doyle and Hunt to leave, job done. Bloose are certainly riding their luck as well.

    94pts

I am not tempting fate, I just want them to win every match or draw. I do not think this year is any different apart from the top three have been fairly consistent from day one. Lets see what this looks like after Christmas but an excellent result today at home to Derby.

  7. Got a feeling Doyle will stay after just signing a new deal etc.

Bloose were crap again - same as saturday...... and 6 points!!!

Either their luck will change and they will fall behind or they are gonna click into gear soon.
And yes I hope Reading ship a few players in Jan

Reading and Blues are doing my head in! At least they play each other soon (even though it wouldn't surprise me to see them come out of that game with 3 points each at this rate). In any normal league we would be all but up by now- but no, we have to have two other $$$$$ constantly on title winning form.

  13. It all depends on how Blues buy in the window. Names like Bowyer floating around only mean one thing to me, promotion.

In terms of Reading I highly doubt they will buy and the only teams I can see coming in for someone like Doyle would be Hull/Stoke/WBA.

Would you leave Reading to go there when promotion is a high possibillity?

I agree that we'll see a huge points total in 3rd. I think as high as 92 points may be required for 2nd.

86 will be enough IMO.. especially given that Blues and Reading still have to play each other twice..

Blues and Reading will both have to better our first half of the season at this stage.. Reading in particular will have to beat their own form from their championship season..

on the plus note, after tonight and there being a 16point gap to 7th ( and our GD effectively worth another point) then we are now more or less guaranteed a play off spot.. We'd have to hit worse than relegation form to not finish in the top 6..

  16. Only thing we can hope for is some of the Blues older boys, Carsley,Quashie, Phillips etc pick up injuries.

    Reading just don't seem convincing.

I've got a sneaky feeling they will get a win at St Andrews.

We've still got to play them away too:eek:

Birmingham v Reading last match of the season is definitely going to be a decider for a spot IMO. Hopefully we won't need one of them to lose to consolidate a position! Fate in our own hands please!

At times we dont seem convincing. I think most fans seem to think the championship is the same as the premiership where teams consistantly rip their opponents to pieces and 5 defeats will rule you out of the title race. Just because reading and bloose dont seem to convincing ( lets face facts have any of us watched them) doesnt meen they wont pick up the results needed to reach 100 points this season.

We have 3 very strong sides plus a couple if average ones and the rest just seem cannon fodder.

This league is dishing out more points to the top 3 than tescos is to its xmas shoppers.

I wasn't aware of that. It could prove very fortunate for us come the last day.

I'm with Kidder in thinking it could take as many as 95 points to secure automatic promotion this season.

    i still go with 88....

reading or small heath will falter...

reading to get 89 points need 46 points from 24 games...( they play small heath twice )....

for us to get 88 we need 38 from 24 games....50% hit rate..

in fact i think we will wear them down and we will get mid to high 90s !

Fitness will be a big factor at the end of the season - who can keep the pace up. From what I've seen so far, only Reading have matched our fitness levels at Molineux.

Past seasons' experience says 88-91 should be more than enough...this season shaping up the way it is and us being Wolves I can see:

    Blues 102
    Reading 101
    Wolves 100
some crap team in 6th 72

some crap team win the P/O's!

    Only joking, I hope/think.

I'm with Dr Cool on this one; I think 88 points will be enough for promotion. Nothing has really changed, apart from us and Reading, I think that any team in this division can beat any other on the day.

Birmingham suffer from the same problem that we have had in previous seasons: they simply don't score enough. I can see them fading and Wolves/Reading going up.

It is VERY RARE to see a three way battle for the Championship of any division. I've seen nothing this season to suggest that it will be any different this time around.

I just hope Blues and us both win on Saturday. That will leave Reading 10 points behind us at the halfway stage.

100 points is what we should really aim for and then we will be guaranteed promotion. i would say 15/16 more wins will do it!

We really can't afford to lose our game at Reading. That would be a 12-point swing to them over us, compared to if we had beaten them twice, and would probably be enough for them to finish above us.

  31. I didn't go to the Reading game unfortunately because I was on a course down in London.

Managed to tune into a little bit of Radio Berkshire whilst I was down there but some crappy pirate radio station kept transmitting over it.

My mate said it was a tactical defeat? Or did we not turn up?

A combination of things - Hennessey punching into his own net after five minutes, Kightly and Jarvis going off injured, Keogh missing a one-on-one that would have made it 1-1.

    They looked strong though.

15 wins or 95 points will do it. When you consider we have 24 games to play its not exactly asking a great deal...

Out of those 9 games, i can see us picking up 4 draws at least so thats 99 points. If we aren't up with that amount of points, then there will be mass suicides!
