The Blackpool game will be the first visit for me & my gf to Blackpool. Always wanted to see what it's all about. Plan is to get to Blackpool in the morning & stay over after the game in the evening, make a bit of a trip of it. Not managed to get to an evening winter game for a while either, so really looking forward.

Anyone know of a nice but cheapish place to stay? Around 50 quid for the two of us kind of thing, max 75. Got to include a solid fry-up in the morning.

And any decent fish & chips there in Blackpool?

Just booked into Travelodge Central. £30 for a double room (you never know someone might be desperate) blurb says just over a mile to the ground. I'm guessing it might be a short tram ride.

I'm planning on getting there early, checking in, meeting the other Yorkies and then stopping over to save driving home. Means I can have a drink or 5. :)

I do only live 70 miles away from Blackpool but what the Hell.

The Travelodge is at the most 800m from the Lashers ground! As I said you can walk to it because no tram goes anywhere near it....

Not quite sure fella this is a new one that the blurb says is 800m from Blackpool Tower so not exactly close to Bloomfield Road IIRC.

That will probably be right, The ground is not on the front as I have said its on the road on the way in

No worries fella. This one's up by North Pier. It was cheaper than the one you're thinking about.

I stayed at this place last season
    http://www.thehotelwilmar.co.uk/thehotelwilmar.html

It's a basic B&B, nothing glamourous, but the couple that run it were very friendly and keep the place quite nice. Good prices as well and only a 10-15 minute walk to the ground (and 5 to the beach/pleasure beach). It's in a quiet little road as well, so no drunken louts or loads of noise that you might get elsewhere. Would recommend it if you're happy with something basic but cheerful.

A football match lasts 90 minutes!! Therefore, why on earth would anyone want to stay in a stinking hovel like Blackpool for more than 120 mins (even less if you run to the car and back!) Beats me.

Yes, I take your point DW. But in this case, even the train would be better than that! ;)

The Travelodge by the ground is so close you could watch the game from your room if on the 4th floor.

There are now two other Travelodges in Blackpool. One opposite the North Pier and another was under construction last time I went up next to the Pleasure Beach.

That'll be the one I'm in then. It was cheaper than the one near the ground.

  23. Another reason to avoid Blackpool, watering holes are in general dire. I'll be watching the match from the comfort of my own living room despite the proximity of the match.

Ever been to Olbury? If so, imagine somewhere 10 times worse and you'll be getting close to Blackpool. On a good day. Even the most liberal tree-hugging leaves thinking dark thoughts about eugenics.
