We will need a more patient game at Molineux now for these next few games? I noticed reading the Saville thread that went slightly OT, with La Parra, Sako, Dicko, Afobe will teams sit back & defend & not let us hit them with pace in behind?

Against Fulham at times we looked much better second half as we worked the ball across the box & back again until we created something, but we lacked that decent shot from Price or McDonald but he at least made up for it with a ball slid in for La Parra.

We always seem to want to run down the wings & cross but is it time for a bit more cleverness, looking at the opta stats Chelsea have the least crosses put into the box yet have scored more than anyone.

I think we need another player to compete with/work alongside Edwards/McDonald in that central area who has a bit of class on the ball for an alternative to our running game.

    Thoughts?

Great post, Mr Wolf. Perhaps if Jacobs can get his act together this could be his moment?

Good post and completely agree. I said on the prediction thread that our biggest problem this year has been dropped points due to our inability to break down sides that just sit back and play for a point (Blackpool, Rotherham, Blues and Brighton spring to mind).

In that context, sombody with that extra bit of class, guile and ability to pick a killer pass around the penalty area would be extremely useful. Somebody in the mould of an Alex Pritchard would be ideal.

Rudolph Austin would be my realistic target for this position.

And I completely agree, Mr Wolf. We lack a little something in that area.

Rudolph Austin, Asleulv? Can't say I know him.

Apparently Jacobs is going nowhere whilst Sako is away so KJ see's him as a winger more than in the middle it would seem.

It's such a myth that he's a quality defensive midfielder. There was a thread about him a while back.

Falls over and cries more than Drogba.

We are fine with Price and McDonald in the deep position, they are the best midfield partnership in a decade and I don't see why some people are adamant to split them up.

Doesn't the lack of creativity from down the middle come from Edwards being, well the least creative and technical midfielder we have and he is playing as the attacking midfielder shouldn't the fingers be pointed at him?

But of course not, he runs a lot and scores goals now and then between sages where he is unless and does nothing but run. Which is a goal every 8 games and a ok perform every 4.

Get Lingard in and play him in the Edwards role if we want to play 4-2-3-1. He has pace, two footed and great balance.

    If not play 442.

We have a squad filled with space, use it.

Terrible player. A old and more moaning version of Doumbia.

This is the same issue that has needed addressing since the start of the season – the 'quality' number 10/advanced link for the attack.

In an open game Dangerous has the legs and energy to provide support in getting on the end of moves, but when it's tight and the opposition are sitting back it's a struggle to break through.

Maybe the use of an intelligent player with good feet, having strength and athleticism as major characteristics could possibly be beneficial in such a situation......if he couldn't slip anyone through he could dance his way in.

    Hmmmm.... :dong:

There's no way Price and McDonald are our best midfield pairing in the last decade that goes to Cameron/Rae or Ince/Cameron imo

Price and KMac are not our best midfield pairing in 10 years but there certainly a very good pairing with bags of room for improvement. Since they've been paired back up we've improved no end. Toughend up at the back ,passing the ball better just better all round.

I agree with Dan its the Edwards position that needs more improving next. Lingard would be an excellent addition there if there's anything in the rumour?

Nobody is saying replace them or split players up just that we need other options or a plan B at times when the running/pressing game doesn't work. At times both Mcdonald & Price like to sit deep & Mcdonald seems only keen to push on when we are struggling & the shackles come off. He does have the ability in the final third though so it is frustrating at times but teams do sit off because they know both CM's don't shoot or push on which makes it harder for us.

Fair enough we are solid but the little triangles, interplay & fluidity between these players could be improved imo. 3 players off the top of my head but say a Dorans, Brunt, Charlie Adams type would improve us.

Same again for next week but Charlton are much better than Blackpool, I think we are going to miss Sako's spark when at home.

Not at the moment, they've really gone downhill since we played them away and took a right pasting yesterday.

I would like to see us take the initiative a bit more than we did for much of the game yesterday. Too many times both McDonald and Price drop back to pick up the ball and play short passes... When we are at home and the better team (such as yesterday) I think one of them should support around the box more freely.

I'm not getting impatient with the style of play as I am enjoying the football we are playing but yesterday for long spells there was no chance of drawing Blackpool out yet McDonald and Price seemed reluctant to commit forward.
