I don't know about you guys put I thought Helder was our worst performer today?
He never looked at all dangerous with his attacking play. He looked weak and easily dispossessed of the ball. Plus when he did lose the ball he never chased back to try and recover the ball ?? Don't think he made a cross during the 71 mins time he was on the pitch either?
I was surprised Nuno didn't sub him quicker in the second half...Sorry Helder but Marks... 5/10 at best

When Cav and Adama are fit I think looking at that performance he'll be third in line?

Accepted he wasn't at his best but the criticism seems a bit over the top. Quite a few were below par today and don't think Helder was particularly worse than anyone else. And I can think off the top of my head, a number of occasions where he did chase back to try and recover it, so to say never is just not correct.

He got marked out the game and well marshalled.

I don’t get the thread to be honest, he’s got lots to learn like all.

If you give him the ball he'll cause most teams problems, we just never got him on the ball enough. He would have eaten Baines alive 1v1 but I don't remember him every getting him 1v1 all game.

Jota and Costa were both poor. Doherty was too. Doesn't mean any of them won't make the step up. They might not, but let's not write them off after one game.

As an opening day performance, I’m happy to credit Everton with marking Jota and Costa out of the game. It’s not the players fault.

If they don’t learn to overcome that kind of marking very quickly, it’ll become their fault.

Ercall Wolf I agree to Jota's high standards he was below par compared to last season, but he still was chasing all over the pitch..

Plus did you know that he can claim an assist for Neves's goal ;)

Thought Baines had a very good game ... not so sure Costa would have eaten him dead today, let alone alive. He’s got bags of talent but at this level players have got to fight to earn the right to play. He didn’t do that today. Don’t like singling him out but I thought he was our most disappointing player today.

They'll have probably learnt more today than in the last 10 championship games combined. You won't play against many more experienced than Coleman, Baines, Jagielka, Keane, Schneiderlain and gueye. I'm sure they'll rewatch the game and only improve.

He had one perfect chance to take Baines on 1 on 1 in the 2nd half and he turned round and went backwards.

He looked nervous, weak and uninterested some times. Was definitely our weak link today but he is a confidence player. In a few weeks he will be terrorising defences. He just needs to trust his ability more.

Let’s face it. All or players looked nervous. It’s natural. In a few weeks it’ll be second nature to them and we will be winning games comfortably imo against half of his league.

Bit of first day nerves all round. It’s an big step-up in quality that we are now playing against and it will take a while to adjust.

Today’s game will have taught the team that they can go toe-to-toe. Confidence will only rise.

Get to **** if you're calling out one player today. Hope to God he doesn't read this.

Willy Boly was an absolute shambles today and would have cost us an extra two goals against a better side. You gonna start a thread for him too?

How about Jota and Moutinho, who both did absolutely nothing of positive significance?

The team played okay, some good, some below par, but to call one person out is poor form and frankly ridiculous.

Looks like we got a proper number 9 now Raul Jimemez with his late goal. Plus with his tireless chasing down the ball. Defending from the front play. How many times Did he make the England goalkeeper Pickford miss kick the ball out of play :)
Raul was our other 2 attackers / strikers saving grace on the day TBH :)

Well worthy of a thread about how bad one player was in one game.

Hope it's not a precedent for the rest of the season and things like this are put in a [oh i dont know] "Verdict Thread".

Isn't this a "Wolves Fans Forum" all about opinions??
I love Nun's approach to this when he never singles out any player whether they play great or poor :)...
But we the fans have a right to discuss either way imho

Think many need to wind necks in no games are easy at this level.Speed of game quality of player far higher than year.Cant beleive your slating players after one game not ever will all play to peak. Its not about òne game its about building a team building a spirit and working on your weaknesses but heaven above dont be moaning after a fightback twice and spirited draw against a top 8 team.

I think cruise control is something many of the team fell into last year. Most of the games were 'comfortable' but in the PL they cannot afford to do that. Certainly not at the stage we are at.

Thing is with Costa is we expect him to be reaching the heights of his best times such as Liverpool and Newcastle away a couple of years ago but he’s not yet reached those yet after his injury.

Quite correct about this part of your post Biffana wolf.. except not moaning?
Nuno saw that weakness and he took Jonny and Costa off and that gave us a lot more impetus attacking especially on the left Ruben Vinagre :)
Leading up to the Raul Jimenez goal.. to put us our first point on the board in the Prem ;)

Everton had bucketloads of experience out there, Jota and Costa will learn plenty from today...zero to be concerned about - remember Jota is still only 21! Costa has never played at this level.

Costa wasn't at it, as @bod101 says, he looked like the Costa who had just come back from injury. To be fair Baines was one of their best players and kept him quiet but I'm sure he'll sort it out, as will the others who were off colour

To single one player out from that performance seems very unfair. Several players weren’t at their best today.
With all the hype and excitement I would have happily taken a point before the game.
I am confident Helder and Diogo will contribute plenty over the season and the bench will also be much stronger once Cav and Traore are available.

As others have very rightly said, first day nerves from a few players today combined with a very organized Everton performance. We will cause many teams problems and odd players will have off days. Very proud of the whole team today, we will improve and deserve to be here...enjoy the ride!!

Watched match again in full, and use of the word "poor" is poor in itself, especially for first game of the season in a higher standard league, with 4 debutants, and only one player (Bennett) with more than 2 games previous experience in the EPL, and does not give a true reflection of the team, or players performances...or take into account there are two teams on the pitch, with a standard of team, player and manager, a cut above what been used to.

We played well, some okay, but not brilliant (altho' Neves shone & Raul shined)...and we did the second thing asked of a Nuno team, we did not lose...1st thing asked is, do not concede.

...things did not work 100%, rub of the green, slippery pitch, tight marking...but we will get better with time...judge again after 8 games.

Having watched again, we are going to do well this season.
