Jonzy you have just given me an injection of euphoria that day and that performance was absolutely awesome. Man City were huge favourites going into the game. City were the form team full of internationals and we had players carrying long term injuries such as Wagstaffe and King John Richards. Until about 2-30 on the day none of us Wolves fans in the Stadium even knew that big Phil Parkes wasn't playing through injury and Gary Pierce was stepping in. At that point I don't even think Gary had played a first team game until that fateful day.
Little did we know we were about to experience the best ever performance I have ever seen by a Wolves goalie who at that time was a complete rookie. Without doubt he won the game for us he stopped., caught. punched, tipped and kicked every ball that came within his penalty area he was like a man possessed almost as if he was from another world. I will never forget that day it was definitely Gary who won the Cup for us. Particularly as Waggy went off early on and King John was clearly suffering with his injury. Gary Pierce have a great birthday you gave me and thousands of other fans a day to remember and deserve as many happy days as can be given to any man
Gary The Cat Pierce you gave mighty City a hell of a beating

Happy Birthday Gary. Remember you as a great guy and Wolves keeper, hope you are keeping well.

Had a chat, and a few beers with you at a Telford Wolves do, late 1977. A great night was had by all.

Happy birthday Gary. I remember singing that to you at Wembley all those years ago. It was an unforgettable day and you helped make it that way with a brilliant performance.

Gary also attended as our guest at the season end presentation of the Sunday League team I played for. He deliberately tripped himself up when he walked to the stage for the presentations!

    Happy days.

He gave one of the greatest GK performances for a cup final I can recall.

I have a set of large framed black-and-white photos of that game which I bought from the E&S just after:

Kenny Hibbitt's opener going into the top corner
King John's winning goal hitting the back of the net
Mike Bailey holding the cup with the lid on his head

    and...

Gary Pierce doing a back-flip as the ref blew for full time!!

    Treasured memories :D:D:D

Happy Birthday, Gary! Thanks so much for one of the greatest days out as a Wolves fan. I wear the replica shirt of that Cup Final at least once a month and rub it into the face of my City-supporting brother-in-law.

If you bought it back in the day and it still fits fair play or did you buy it more latterly to allow for growth and expansion?:D

It was wonderful, played at a terraced Wembley so far removed from the present santitised Wembley.

    Many happy returns Gary.

For the love of me I cannot recall the GK he replaced but was it Bradshaw?

No he wasn't at Wolves then.

    Phil Parkes?

What a memorable day that was. Happy Birthday Gary.

Could only get a ticket sitting amongst the City supporters !

Remember Johnny Richard's apologising to our supporters after the game, for not running over to them to celebrate his goal, because his injury was causing him so much pain.
