Friday nights howler got me thinking!!!

There have been some great own goals for us over the years...

    Anyone remember these

Alan Smith Leeds sliced into his own net

Anthony Gardner Hull away another lovely slice into his own goal

I'm sure someone for Rotherham at their old ground scored and absolute screamer for us right in the top corner. Can't remember who exactly think it was during the choke season.

    Anyone got a favorite?

    UTW.

There was one in mid 90s, against Charlton I think, ball comes in box, bounces off defender onto post, back off post into defender and into back off the net. Then I think he scores another in same game but not as dramatic

Remember beating Blues 1-0 with a Marlon King own goal. Couldn't have happened to a nicer team or player.

Bosingwa's for the 1-0 win against Chelsea was pretty special too.

We've had two fairly decent ones on the past two weekends (Friday does count as a weekend doesn't it?)

Didn't Alan Smith score for us against Leeds? Or did I just want that to happen?

It's funny how quickly Alan Smith's career went down the pan, wasn't THAT long ago that he was scoring in the Champions League for Leeds, getting a move to ManUre, then suddenly he seems to have been at MK Dons for a while and now it turns out is at Notts County.

There is footage about because I have seen it. It was at Kop end and they burst into a rendition of Des O'Connor's song "Careless Hands" which was no.1 at the time. Football was just better when I was a kid...........

Can't see the video at work, but was this in the 5-0 home defeat to Barnsley? If so, i was down the front of the southbank right in line with that. If i remember correctly, as the ball hit the net, he sat there, pulled his socks up, shouted an expletive at the top of his voice, then stood up and carried on!

One of the best goals I ever saw was at Molineux against Leicester City on 4th November 1961, a bullet header into the top corner of the net which beat the goalie all ends up.

Unfortunately, the goalie was Malcolm Finlayson and the scorer of the goal was Ron Flowers who was rushing back to meet a dangerous cross from the opposing winger and attempting to head it to safety over the bar. But his aim was off and he found the net. If he'd been trying to score it would have gone over the top.

    We lost the match 0-3.

Kevin Gray it was: it put us 2-1 up. My first home game. He'd scored about 5 minutes earlier. Terriers scored a stoppage time equaliser. A game otherwise notable for Mark Jones having a good 20 mins or so on the pitch.

There was a cracker in a 60s cup-tie (1966?) at Molineux v Sheff Utd. The goal was credited to Peter Knowles, but it was actually an o.g. by the Blades' goalie, Alan Hodgkinson.

Knowlah shot from distance an absolute screamer. Hodgkinson dived but couldn't reach it, but the ball hit the post, came back out on the full and hit Hodgkinson on the $$$$ as he was still diving and rebounded into the net behind him. Classic!

Phil Chappell I think. Charlton did their best for us that night, they got a penalty within 30 seconds of kick-off and promptly missed it.

It wasn't against us but the one that has been voted the best(worst) of all time was by the Forest Green defender Wayne Hatswell in the FA Cup v Morecambe .He had a couple of stabs at it.
I am sure someone can cut and paste it.

Didn't we beat Den Haag in the Ueafa Cup at Molineux 4-1...One of the goals was a corker of an own goal where their defender was on the floor facing his goal ...a cross came in and he lifted his head to nod it in sweet as a nut

Wow. I'm almost glad you've shown that. I didn't think footage of that existed. I was beginning to think I'd imagine the poorness involved in that goal and that my memory had exaggerated the utter patheticness of the goal (sorry Paul!) but seeing it reminds me of how bad it actually was. Thank you.

And some people think our squad is weak now. Just had a quick look at that squad. There was some cack onndisplay back then. Just as well we had Bull and Mutch scoring goals.
