Yet again, a win and a verdict thread fails to appear for some time

Crucial, crucial win. Looking forward to reading the reports from those who were there. UTW.

Just on the train so I'll do a report when I get back. In short we played okay in the first half but we still scored 3 quality goals, second half we played some decent stuff and there were goals to be had. Afobe class again, stearman unstoppable.

Scored 3 and conceded none =everybody 8/10 except Stearman+ Kmac 9, Price and Golbourne 6. Fulham played pretty football with no end result. We obviously have a cunning plan and we are now scoring while not looking like we are playing well! It's working so well done KJ.
Edit- I think I heard somebody in the Nb singing Stearman for England! Don't they know he's Irish!
The South bank were pretty good tonight even though the crowd was 17,744 with about 100 Fulham fans. The North bank are getting louder too!

Fulham look a very good passing side, but lack the lethalness that we have recently found. For our second goal it was like we were playing at their own game, must have been 30-40 passes before a superb Sako finish!
Overall it was a nice routine win in the end, game was won at half time. We killed the game second half!
I would put ratings up, but i didn't wear my glasses so they all look like gold blobs to me!

Just got back. A more pleasing display than Saturday. Filled with excellent individual performances and no small amount of decent team work too.

PIG - Excellent positional sense and improved handling - the one mistake he made was due to a foul on him by Rodallega. 7.5
Iorfa - He's going to be a player! A little bit sloppy at times, but love his youthful enthusiasm - 7
Golbourne - Rusty and it showed. Solid enough but sloppy at times - 6
Batth - Good night's work by the skipper - well taken goal and solid against a tough frontline - 8
Stearman - Another top class performance by my POTS. He's everywhere. 9
KMac - Back to something like his best. When he plays, we play. Some of his passes. WOW - 8.5
Edwards - Unusual deep role which he was quietly effective at. Efficient rather than spectacular - 7
Price - Unusual right tucked in midfielder. Nice to see a bit of attacking intent. But sloppy at times - 6.5
Sako - 2 goals and 1 assist. A free role tonight, and he excelled. 9.5 MOM
Afobe - Such a talent. Makes things happen and seemingly has no fear. 9
Dicko - reasonably quiet night and rightly withdrawn to protect him from injury - 7

RVLP - frustrating as ever!! Use your pace man! 6
Henry - One sublime pass to Afobe - always a fan of him - 7
Doyle - not on long enough

Ref - thought he did well, although was a tad fussy towards to end of the game.

Crowd - credit where due - full repertoire of songs - what's the James Henry lyrics folks?!

Bit of banter between stands too, nice to hear the North Bank give a bit back ;)

Fulham's front 3 are seriously talented and looked threatening too.

Hugely encouraging stuff. All credit to Jackett.

1st half as if they were told not to attack no urgency to support the attack many times. End of first half sako 3 Fulham 0. Second half we played so much better pushed up more looked more in control without threatening much. Bizarre.

That wasn't the case tonight. And you could also say the same for the South Bank. Without those lads in the bottom corner, I dread to think what it would be like.

I saw my mate the other day, he said he saw, the white Pele, I asked him who, who is he, he said he goes by the name of James Henry...

Echo what others were said, a lot more sound at the back, the more I see PIG, the more I am impressed with him. Will write something slightly more in depth tomorrow.

It was a weird formation, a bit unbalanced but did the job. I also think with no natural width on the right it asked a lot of iorfa. 3-0 flattered us, but we were the better team and some good performances for me and a great win.

    Kuschak - 7 little wrong
Iorfa -7 looked a threat going forward and string, but ball gets stuck under him at times
Golbourne - 6 gives us balance but a bit rusty for me
Stearman 8 - unreal how good he is playing, blocks, headers, reading the game, restarting attacks. Superb
Batth 7 great threat from set pieces and solid defensively on the whole
McDonald 8 moved the ball beautifully and I think got stuck in today as well
Price 7.5 good, the way him and kmac move the ball between them is superb, usually resulting with the later setting up an attack
Edwards 7 won a lot of lose ball and ran loads
Sako 7 seens harsh as scored 2 and set up one, but looked a bit disinterested at times and for me doesn't have the work rate to play more centrally
Dicko 6 not quite on it for me today, ball just didn't stick
Afobe 7 great runs, effort abd continues to impress

Subs were largely cameos to give dicko, sako and afobe a rest

Good work today, and good result
MOM for me would be kmac

If you didn't make it tonight as you preferred the TV then more fool you, but if you went on Saturday it was fairly similar. They had a lot of the ball and quite a few chances but didn't take them. We were absolutely clinical, scored from a corner (!) again. Two sublime goals from Sako and too much movement, ace and skill for them to cope with from all our attacking players.

Seemed they had no real width at all and KJ decided to use the full backs for width and play a narrow three and Sako wandering about a bit. Didn't suit Price but the other two did well I thought. Good to see MacDonald back in some sort of from.

Love the determination to keep a clean sheet even when the game is safe. Annoying to still be 5 points off the play-offs.

  23. Very enjoyable evening.

Get the feeling KJ has settled on a system, knows what he wants for the remainder and we're steadily applying it. The midfield bossed and throughout the team there was a strength and we kept it simple. Balls through the channels and good running from the two up top. The ball is sticking up front and you have to say that Sako was the magician tonight. Not sure what time he went off but he was sublime - worth the gate fee alone to have seen him tonight. Smart play from Price and Dave who kept position well - maybe Price needs to look up more but Mac was willing to run at them and have to say the balls into the top two were much better.

The back four were tighter than a gnats cuff and look the part with Kuszack bellowing at them. Think he's going to take some shifting. Few silly balls when we really needed to launch it but other than that very good. Iorfa really needs support when he gets forward.

    MoM Sako

    Ps Planty looks very well.

Sako went off with stomach cramps, hopefully should be ok for Cardiff.

Agree RE Iorfa, however, he looks a helluva player, his sheer determination alone won the corner for the opening goal.

A strange game, started brightly got in front, then Fulham played well but couldn't finish. Sako had a couple of moments of brilliance as part of some good teamwork and that was it. Second half was a little dull as we managed the game out, all the changes took some of the rhythm away. Iorfa was great, Price was disciplined, Edwards got through a lot of work, Afobe started well but then looked like a player believing the hype and wasn't working hard enough for me, stepped it up second half, but had some great attacking moments. Nice cameo from VLP with some good touches, Henry slows stuff down too much for me.

  29. Fulham had a £10M striker tonight and I'd say maybe another £5M in fees for Rodallega. Food for thought for those who see ambition as spending millions. Our boys snuffed them out.

PIG: His most dominant display so far. Claimed every ball and distributed the ball well. At this rate Ikeme will have to train well to win back his shirt. 8

Iorfa: Probably the most Iorfa has every been involved in a game. A lot of our attacks started through Iorfa. Took on their fullback and beat him a few times, but also lost the ball a few times. Never got beaten by their winger. 7

Batth: Great to see Danny get a goal, very minimal defending on him whenever he went up for a corner, he almost scored a second in the second half. Won everything in the air, and played to his strengths. 7

Stearman: The best CB in the league in my opinion. He's like a man possessed at the moment. Cleared the ball whenever there was a scrap in the box, and played the ball out well. My MOTM 9

Golbourne: Wasn't at his best tonight, but its all about getting him game time and keeping him fit. Still played well enough and did his job defensively. 6

McDonald: Dominated midfield. Broke up play and drove forward with the ball. Best he's played for a while. Faultless. 8

Edwards: Played just ahead of the back 4 which was strange... but effective! He mopped up loose balls at helped counter-attack. His energy is very useful for closing down the opposition. 7

Price: Played as a narrow wide midfielder, and drifted inside to defend. It allowed us to be stable defensively but Price is too indecisive to play that far forward. Still gave a good account of himself and allowed us to stay defensively sound. 7

Sako: Played more centrally than normal and always wanted the ball. Scored a cracking goal from 20 yards and then scored a better version of the goal he scored against Rotherham. He also put in a great ball for Danny's goal. Went off early, he refused water at one point so maybe he felt ill? Warmed down afterwards so obviously wasn't injured. 8

Afobe: Easily beat 3/4 Fulham players at a time and had a couple of decent shots saved. Will be a top player in 2/3 years if he stays fit, he has all of the right attributes. I thought he got shoved in the box just before he came off? But i might be wrong. 8

Dicko: Didn't see much of the ball but ran the channels and closed down the defence well. Played through at one point and forced a half decent save. 6

RVLP: Did really well, beat his man a couple of times and is a great player to be able to bring off the bench. 7

Henry: Seemed to drift between central midfield and wide midfield. Did both well. Henry is very good at build up play and is a great player to be able to bring on to keep the tempo and spot a pass. - 7

Doyle: Game was dead at the point he was subbed on. Won a few flick ons but he wasn't really given the chance to do much else. 5

Fulham: Really poor. McCormack should have scored in the first half but except for that they didn't have any real chances. The Bryan Ruiz was really good on the ball buttery lazy off it. Game was finished at half-time but there were goals for us to claim in the second. Obviously we didn't need to push them too much for the last 45 minutes.

Jackett: Tried something new tonight and it worked! Love the fact that he's willing to try new formations against specific teams. Subs were spot on.

Crowd: Loudest Molineux has been for a while despite there only being about 17,000 fans there (which still isn't bad for mid-week) The Jack Harris was belting out song after song, and to be fair the Stan Culls got 3/4 songs going. Our fans were fantastic, its no surprise that now were playing really good football the ground is getting louder.

Our easiest win of the season? I'd say so. For all their supposed "talent", Fulham offered very little. There was some neat one touch football at times, but if you fail to get a decent shot away, it counts for nothing. That said, you can only beat what's in front of you, and I thought we showed great efficiency and ruthlessness in doing just that. It augers well for the final 13 games of the season.

We started brightly, and showed good intentions in possession. We moved the ball at pace, and although the attack looked slightly lopsided, with no natural winger on the right, we still got the ball into good areas. It was no surprise to see us take the lead. Some great play down the right from the galloping Iorfa earned a corner. Sako fizzed in a super delivery, and Batth rose highest to nod it down and in for his 4th goal of the season.

After that, we produced some really good football, and had several chances to make it 2-0. Golbourne's terrific first time knock down found Afobe, who could only hit the goalkeeper from about 12 yards, and Dicko's inventive drive from a tight angle forced a smart near post save from the keeper. At the other end, Fulham had one or two half chances, but Kuszczak wasn't forced into a save that you called legitimately call anything other than 'routine'. When we did get the second goal, it was a goal which I felt showed off the very best of Wolves. There must have been at least 30 passes in the build up, each time the move threatened to fizzle out, we recycled possession, with Price the key player in this. Eventually it found its way to Sako, who thumped home an unstoppable low drive. Possession, passing, patience, perfection.

It was 3-0 shortly afterwards, seconds before the half time whistle. Sako again found himself one on one with his marker. Having scorched past him, his low effort squirmed inside the near post. Poor goalkeeping, but he was beaten for sheer pace. Double figures for Sako, not bad for a winger in February.

The second half didn't live up to the first half in truth. Any thoughts of a Fulham fightback were quickly eradicated by a general lethargy in their play. Some of their players looked as though they couldn't wait to get on the coach home. We created some decent chances of our own, the keeper saving well from both Afobe and McDonald, whilst Stearman and Afobe again were close with efforts from outside the box. It was excellent game management from Wolves, they could have scored more if they wanted, but instead they just kept things simple, shut Fulham out and coasted to 3 points. The front 3 of Sako, Dicko and Afobe all got a rest too, ready for the tough trip to Cardiff.

As I say, I think the formation at first looked a little lopsided, there was no natural width, with Price adopting the position closest to what you would call a winger, and on the other side, Sako having something of a 'free role', drifting across to link play up well. It seemed to work, as there was a bit of tempo about our play right from the off, and all 3 goals came really from Fulham being unable to pick players up and shut off space. Credit to Kenny, because even after the 5-0 on Saturday, people could see that we weren't defensively at our best, whereas he adjusted things slightly, and we were watertight, in the most part.

Hardly noticed the referee, he missed a blatant foul on Kuszczak second half, think he let the game flow, and in many ways the players controlled it rather than he did, which was nice to see. No bookings either.

    Ratings:

Kuszczak- 7. Very little to do, made some excellent catches second half, don't think Fulham mustered an effort of note from about the 20th minute onwards though.

Iorfa- 8. Fantastic, bustling run to earn the corner Batth opened the scoring from, and played in the same eager manner all evening. Got back well too, can anyone remember him being 'done' in a one on one?

Stearman- 8. Comfortable evening's work for a player in his form. Will need to give his shorts a shake before he puts them in the wash, just in case he's left Rodallega in his pocket...

Batth- 8. Great goal, determined run and a clever downward header. One slip second half which let Fulham in, but other than that, very good night's work.

Golbourne- 8. Got forward more, as the narrow midfield gave him space to run into. Produced one great knock down for Afobe, and defensively was very secure.

Price- 8. Thought he had a neat, tidy game. Instrumental in the second goal, was always available for the pass, to keep the move going. Wish he'd be a bit more positive on the ball sometimes, twice in the second half he could have shot but went backwards instead.

McDonald- 9- MotM. Back to his imperious best. Strolled round midfield, picking off passes, riding tackles and striding with purpose like the midfielder who grabbed League One by the scruff of the neck last season. Seemed to be involved in everything we did.

Edwards- 7. Quiet night, did what was needed without really imposing himself on the game.

Sako- 9. Two goals, an assist and at times some lovely work on the ball. Seemed to have a bit more creative freedom, and relished weaving in and out of the lines, causing chaos. Found a lovely pocket of space for the first goal he scored.

Afobe- 8. Tireless performance, full of energy. I'm trying to think of who he reminds me of, there's definitely something of an Ian Wright about him, in that wholehearted approach, everything he does is with the intention of the team getting a goal at the end of it. Twice came close to scoring.

Dicko- 7. Seemed to be on the periphery of things tonight, did some important hold up work, but aside from one inventive effort, didn't trouble the goalkeeper.

    Subs:

Van La Parra- 6. Bit of a strange one. Thought the game was made for him to come on and stretch their defence, he seemed a bit lacklustre to me though. Twice he was beaten to a ball he should have won comfortably, and nothing seemed to click for him.

    Henry- 7. Solid contribution.

Doyle- Came on for 10 minutes and did a job of holding things up.

On reflection it was possibly the home game that I have enjoyed most this season, particularly the second half.

Upon hearing the line up I was a tad surprised, upon seeing the actual formation, I was bemused and by the end I was pretty happy. Edwards playing deep worried me but he won a huge amount of balls, tackled and ran forward from defence with the ball which gave attacking momentum, McDonald looks so much a better player, when further forward it was just highlighted what a crime it has been playing him so deep. Price, for me, was an experiment that just didn't work.

Fulham were a functional outfit that had a lot of ball, passed it prettily and retained posession well at times, ultimately they created relatively little and apart from one near post save our keeper had little to deal with that wasn't run of the mill.

Only one moment of keystone cops defending tonight, where we just can't seem to clear the ball. We do suddenly look a ruthless team in front of goal, we really need to maintain this form over the coming games. The gulf between ourselves and Forest really demonstrates the gap in class in this division, the teams that are bad are very bad.

There are, in my opinion, signs that we are beginning to play some very nice football at times, particularly second half. Whether this come about by design, luck or a mixture of the two I am unsure.

Make no bones about it, we deserved this win and by the end of the second half the score line didn't flatter us.

Kuschak - 7.5 : tidy shot stopping though none were worldies. Ocassionaly flaps at crosses but by en large safe enough. Some variable quality kicking, particularly first half.

Golbourne - 5 : Pretty poor. I noticed it more first half as he was in front of us, second half less so as he was the other side of the pitch and Wolves were generally in command of the game. Positionally all over the place, wrong side of his man, appearing in the centre circle, pretty much beaten every time when defending and wasteful when on the ball. I hope he is just rusty but something just isn't right, it was like watching a dog chasing a balloon at times.

Stearman - 8 : tremendous again. If ever a player has made me eat my words it is Stearman. If there is any justice he will be player of the season..no question. An absolute rock at the back.

Batth - 8 : I thought he had a very good game tonight. One superbly timed tackle in our box first half, won every defending header he had too, and a great header for the goal.

Iorfa - 7.5 : The lad, at times is still a little raw, particularly going forwards, but God he is a prospect. Defensively really adept, very quick, skilful, sometimes lacks a final ball or pass. Ran the length of the pitch, beating two Fulham players to win the corner that led to our first goal. Those gangly legs and strides look so awkward...but it just works...it's like it shouldn't....but it does!

Sako - 7.5 : A tough one to score really. I am in the camp of, superb end product but an average performance. Delivery was spot on tonight, two blinding finishes, a couple of nice runs...other than that pretty forgettable contribution. However if you can contribute 2 goals and an assist before half time it's something I will happily live with.

Edwards - 7.5 : initially concerned when I saw him deep in front of the back four but, bugger me...it worked. I was impressed, broke up play, worked tirelessly, passed the ball very well...one superb ball across field to Dicko. I thought the fact that when he won the ball and sprinted out of defence with it, that it was a real help in giving our attacking play some impetus rather than the slow tippy tapping across the back four we have been witnessing in home games of recent times.

McDonald - 9 (MOM) : tonight it was the McDonald we all remember from last year. Just by playing him further forward, He cruised around the pitch. Won balls, retained possession, defended well, provided assists...it was a complete performance and reminded me just how good he is. Quite why we seem to have taken the decision to strangle his natural strengths, as a footballer, by playing him so deep is hard to fathom.

Price - 5 : An experiment that didn't work. He played on the right but narrow and couldn't adjust from a defensive midfield mindset. Very sideways or backwards when passing, on the two occasions that he reached the edge of the opposition box he had absolutely no idea what to do next, dillied and dalllied until dispossessed. The problem for me, with Price, is that in the position he has earned plaudits (in front of the back 4) Edwards made us look more effective and a threat and McDonald was free to play his natural game.

Afobe - 8. : very skilful, direct, strong, 2 shots, both on target which the keeper had to save. I love his movement which is second to none..in honesty you can see him ready to go and looking along the line often before our midfielders pick the pass. Looks frighteningly better than this division.

Dicko -7. : One run and snapshot forcing a near post save. Some hard work closing down, other than that little to report.

VLP - 6.5 : a couple of quick runs resulting in no end product of note. Must be frustrating for Afobe.

Henry - 7 : I like him a lot, looked good when he came on and delivered a couple of beautiful through balls to Afobe. Strong on the ball a just generally looked at ease.

Doyle - 6.5 : won a header, ran about...not quick enough to take advantage of a one on one and eased off the ball.

Ref : 6 it's weird, I don't think he talked to anyone let alone book anyone. I do not recall us even getting one free kick, yet a few strange decisions in Fulham's favour. That said he didn't irritate me.

Away fans - may as well have sent the Michael Jackson statue....it would have made more noise than their fans.

An excellent result, but I actually felt the scoreline was pretty flattering. Particularly in the first half, the 2nd was almost completely dead.

Tommy: 7.5 - Not tested too much, but claimed balls well when needed.

Scotty: 5 - Poor tonight. I felt he was slow defensively, and didn't get forward anywhere near as well as he's done in the past.

Danny: 7.5 - Nice to see him get on the scoresheet, and dominated in the air all night.

Stears: 7.5 - Another quality performance. His shot was way off the mark, but it was all in good fun.

Dom: 8.5 - Lots of running, and did well to force a corner for our first goal. Was practically playing as a winger and defender.

Dave: 7 - One of the few players who actually bothered to chase the ball and put players under pressure, but anonymous for large stretches at a time. Helped very well with defending when others were slacking off.

Price: 6 - Poor. He seemed to be playing as a right midfielder drifting into the middle as needed, but time and time again he offered no support to Dom. Not an attacking minded player in the slightest. Defending, he did what was needed. In his normal role, I'd probably have given him a 7.

KMac: 6.5 - Started playing better towards the end but I felt he was poor for much of the game, and very unassertive in midfield.

Sako 9 - 2 goals and an assist, easily MOTM.

Dicko: 7 - Didn't have much to work with, chased a bit. Forced a good save from a tight angle. Not much else to say.

Afobe: 8 - Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, forcing 2 good saves from their keeper. Seemed to slip over a few times tonight, as did a few other of our players.

Henry: Not the best start with his first few touches, but there wasn't much to say he did wrong for the rest.

VLP: I was impressed with his running tonight, and he seems to be looking up more as well.

Doyle: Held the ball up a bit. Cameo really.

Any chance of a Fulham fightback ended about 5 minutes into the 2nd half, with most of that 45 minutes spent tapping it around.

General thoughts: Fulham had way too much of the ball, with some of the defending being really sloppy. An unwillingness to put a foot in or get tight to them allowed them so much time to carve us open, and on another day a team would have punished us severely for that.

Time and time again we offered no movement or support for players on the ball, with a few exceptions.

It was also probably the most boring 3-0 win I've ever seen, with it looking like Kenny told them not to really bother in the 2nd and see the game out.

We got the result, but the formation seemed very weird, and we can't have Dom running the right side all by himself.

Did the ref actually give us a free kick at all? I've seen far far worse and for the most part he was fine, but he seemed to give several niggling fouls against us.

We didn't have a single free kick in the first half on the stats board and I can't really remember any in the second.
They had a few and for the second game running the ref never used his can once.
I reckon the Reading ref has used up the whole supply.

Didnt go last night but finishing sounds clinical. Low crowd but only brighton and derby higher.

Based on the fact that Sako got two goals and one assist it's really weird to see all these verdicts and barely any MOTM's. I didn't go, so what do I know, but normally the MOTM award is given to game changers like Sako yesterday. I mean who could have done a more important job in getting the win?
