Their turnout last night was utterly pathetic for a team that had spent years in the PL.Does anyone know what the official figure was?
    Under 200 in my view.

We thought about the same. Never had a strong away following though.

I heard a figure of 168 from a steward-not sure how accurate that was but looked about right !! Our crowd of 17700 was poor overall but still the 3rd best of the night in the Championship-behind leaders Derby and Brighton who played Leeds so not too bad considering......

Anyone remember when Southend had half the South Bank and brought about 200 fans? Colchester last year was an equally poor turn out.

Was that due to some sort of ban like Cardiff in 2007?

Was that the night we went top of the table with a 5-0 win?

Think it was less than 200 to be honest, they never had half though it was about 1500-2000 they used to give in the Southbank flank. It looked even worse becaus emost the ground was pretty full that night but just a small block of Southend fans all bunched together. Pretty sure they did join in the mexican wave though (fairplay)

That's right yeh. Steve Froggatt destroying Ronnie Whelan on the wing to set up Bully for the 5th. Ahh the mid 90's. Too much nostalgia.

According to the two in my car they'd sold 150 or so tickets. From where I was sitting there looked to be around 70.

They are fed up with all their recent managers/players - similar thing to when we got relegated - high paid mercenaries who couldn't give a stuff about the club or fans.

I remember playing them in the Prem on a nice sunny day in August and they still only brought a couple of hundred max.

Ahh yes I remember that, our second win of the season giving us 6 points out of 6 and briefly putting us top of the Premier League.

    Whatever could go wrong

Not as pathetic as Wigan only just creeping over 10,000 last night in my opinion

I don't think that was as bad as Middlesbrough being second and only having 15,000 last night .

It was the 01-02 season I think, and it was when they had announced they'd be playing in Milton Kenynes the following season.

Being honest I was disappointed with the Molineux turn out but with there being Champions league football live on TV, a freezing cold evening and playing a club with a truly pathetic following maybe not so bad after all.

I think that was the day Billy Wright died, or the day of his funeral, can't remember which.

    Ditto.

With how the seasons going think they will be gone before playing Wolves but I would truly love it if it was in that game Wolves put the final nail in their coffin.

Wasn't when he died, we were at Sunderland that day then the first home game after his death (tributes etc) was Tranmere. I've just checked and Southend was the Tuesday after that so possibly the day of his funeral.

Gotta confess I left work at Hereford at 5:15pm and was tempted to stop when I got home, but ended up getting to Molineux with 15 mins to spare - was an effort though! So I felt I couldn't really judge their stay away aways too much. But do think if they go done the Fulham of the 80's is just around the corner.

That was our last home game of the season, the "bottled it" season. They had about 50 or so in one bank of the Steve Bull lower. We'd signed Kevin Cooper from them late in March, he was their Player of the Year, so gave him his prize, if I recall correctly.

Yep. It was 02/03 when they brought no fans at all, shortly before the MK move.

Both Fulham and Wigan spent an extended period in the PL and were seen as established for some considerable time. Plenty of time to establish a following .... Pathetic they have so few fans and such a lack of identity. Clubs such as Brighton, Bristol City, Peterborough and even Smallsall have more credibility IMO. On 2nd thoughts ... Maybe not Smallsall :D

I think it's a little harsh calling smaller clubs pathetic. I mean, if you were born in London and had your pick of the clubs, who in their right mind would choose Fulham? Same for Wigan with Merseyside and Manchester not too far away.

However, I would hate it if I supported a club with such low following.

Have to say I'm with Chester on this one, you say they are patheitc because they were in the prem for a few years and should have 'established' bigger followings.

I'd find it more pathetic for a small club to all of a sudden have a a decent following based on a few season in the prem.

Recall early season when Wolves were playing at Fulham, 3rd league game in, some OTT Fulham supporter bragging about how big a club Fulham were, what a Mickey Mouse club Wolves were having been in L1 and basically lauding Fulham so much you'd think they deserved to be handed automatic promotion back to the PL.

In the big scheme of things Fulham are a big(ish) club compared to many and the same, I suppose, could be said of blouse. Clubs that don't actually have the magnificent following they'd like you to believe but just my view.

It's always easier to follow a club doing well, it's when the chips are down and things not going that well I believe true support stands out.

I'm sure you're right WU. I just dislike both sets of fans. Still remember too clearly the away game at Craven cottage in 10/11 when their fans were indisputably pathetic and small time after what was actually a fair tackle from Henry on Zamora In some ways Wigan have more excuse as their town has always been RL and always will be. By coincidence Karl Henry deservedly got sent off in the away game at Wigan a few weeks later that year.

I lived in London from 1981 to 1998 and would sometimes attend matches as a neutral. Fulham would always have been one of the better grounds to attend compared to the bigger clubs.

Ended up with a couple of mates who were Fulham fans and the last couple of years I lived there would have gone to midweek games with them. Always a good atmosphere standing in the enclosure down the side - this was when they were starting to make their climb from the bottom division - with crowds about 5,000.
There years in the Prem spoilt them a bit I think and a new generation of fans were there who only knew the Prem and nothing else, hence the slightly haughty attitude towards us when we had our sojourn in the top division.
