Went to the Radio WM sponsored event last night held in the Hayward suite Molineux. The evening kicked off without its compere as Franksie was stuck in traffic ! Mike Taylor stepped into the breach and although he looked like a bouncer he was very good and asked Kenny about his footballing history, his dad was a professional, his brother a semi-pro and how he had to pack up at 26 and started coaching the youth team at Watford before stepping up to be assistant manager to various people including Graham Taylor and Ian Holloway. He had 14 years grounding before taking his first managerial position.

Franksie duly arrived and took over and questions were asked from the floor, Sako's position was raised and it seems the club are perfectly happy to take a chance that he won't go in this window and that either we go up, he gets a new contract and everyone is happy, or we don't and we offer him a contract and hope he doesn't get a better offer and walks. It certainly isn't a Lescott position.

Regarding recruitment this window, Kenny wants to bring in another forward, they have a target(s ?) and are hopeful but he doesn't envisage multiple signings.

A question was answered on what was the process on how players are purchased and he confirmed what we had been told in the parliament- a committee of Thelwell, Morgan, Moxey and himself and he firmly stated he has last word as it would never work if players were brought in that he didn't want !

He intends to go for promotion this season, on the basis that lets worry about not being ready when we are in there. He mentioned that teams of his have picked up 10 points on teams from the end of Feb, so he is bullish. He was asked why does he and players shout the odds about promotion so much compared to last year, he said it was down to the press using his comments more.

Asked how he had turned things around from the 5 game slump, he said the defence was key and iofa and Hause with Jack price sitting in front was the reason for the upturn.

Stearman and Edwards were praised several times as our senior pros, he was asked who is your first name on the team sheet and he replied Ikeme !

One chap asked why we were so inconsistent in form and poor starters ie Fulham and Blackpool, he said it wasn't intentional and he was trying to sort it, he wasn't happy with the Blackpool performance.

Regarding style of football, he said everyone should know by now that he loves playing from the back and that to be successful in the prem you have to play that way, ball retention would be key, but he also feels it can get us out of this division.

He bought Afobe as cover for Dickho but for certain games (such as Charlton) will look to play them both.

He would consider playing Doyle if circumstances dictated.

He came across as a very clever , friendly chap and he received a rousing applause from those present.

Great write up. Not much extra than you would expect him to say to be fair.

I would hope were in for another midfielder mind

    Cheers for that Dudley.
I wonder if the forward we want is a striker or winger.

And very interesting to know that Kenny does indeed have the last word.

As KJ says, it would never work if he didn`t.

Interesting that he said he bought Afobe for Dicko. I guess that means there was no plan for a replacement for Sako when he went off for ACON despite them knowing he would be away many months in advanceand with no other moves imminent looks like we are hoping to wing it until he gets back. We've been fortunate so far with 6 points out of 6 so far, lets hope that good run/luck continues.

Kenny was also asked why he took the job on, given that we were a car crash at the time, he said it was because as he was a championship manager at the same time he knew we had some good kids and had his ideas on why we had gone wrong. As soon as he came in he told the board he would aim to get us straight back up year one. He told the players that they were good enough and if they got their act together (with no disrespect to the other div 1 teams) they only had themselves to fear !

He said that he had to adapt as the season developed, using people and casting them aside if need be. It involves being ruthless at times but as he said its what he is paid for!

Kenny sees the close season as key, should we go up, if we don't recruit well in the summer it may be too late in the jan window.

With the younger players , he said he had to strike a balance between criticism and encouragement, it was easy for a manager to criticise but it can be negative. He was asked how he keeps the squad happy ? He said that is very important as many negative people in the squad can affect morale, he would rather loan fringe players out to keep them busy and fit and if they do well, like Price and Hause, bring them back and reward them.

His favourite all-time player was John Barnes , then Ian Rush, favourite manager- Sir Alex, then Brendon Rogers and Martinez.

Dudleywolf, your reports have been top quality and brilliant summaries of what was asked and what Kenny actually said.

You should take up journalism pal, far better than anything in the newspapers.

Good to see you anyway, hope you enjoyed the evening.

It was a great night. Well done to Kenny, this guy is the future.

I absolutely love the fact Kenny says its his job to be ruthless, use players and cast them aside!

There should be absolutely no room for sentimentality if we want to progress, which he's demonstrating already putting Ricketts up for loan

Forgot to mention this, one of my volunteer lads asked him, if, in his playing career did he ever remember playing against Bully. He pondered for a few seconds and said that he wasnt sure and could not remember. This lad quick as a flash said, "If you had Kenny you would have remembered" Franksy repeated what was said to make sure everyone heard. Great moment.

A few additions from myself in what was a very good night.

Kenny is very proud and enthusiastic about being manager of our wonderful club , it is a real pleasure to hear him speak with so much passion and I really do believe we have a very special guy at the top who with the right backing will take us to the premier league.

Dudleywolf has made an excellent summary of the night and a couple of things I picked up on would like to mention.

A key area during our "bad November" was due to lack of pace up front , Dicko is fundamental to how we play and without him the lack of pace up front meant teams could push up / squeeze us out knowing that we cant hurt them in behind so as well as Iorfa , Hause , Price and Stearman coming back to solidify our defensive game RVLP was moved up front in an attempt to address the lack of pace issue we faced. This in itself was a key decision in the signing of Afobe rather than a Danny Graham type and he was someone who KH recommended and has followed his career from an early age at Arsenal.

New signings dont expect many more and Edwards like Dicko is key to how we setup and play so reading into what he was saying any signing will be in that number 10 role as he doesn't feel we have anyone in the club to cover that position if Edwards is injured and Evans would probably do it out of what we currently have at the club.

Nobody mentioned Ricketts yet on numerous times KJ mentioned you need to keep evaluating and adapting , reacting accordingly and no place for sentiment. As a club we have held on to plays for to long and KJ was clear on this that you have to move players on which I think was a major failing for Mick.

Bomb squad only Doyle was mentioned and currently he is not in KJ plans , Dicko and Afobe are the future however he has no issues with Doyle , model professional and wouldn't hesitate to play him if we had injuries etc...

All in all a brilliant night and KJ stayed till everyone who wanted to had spoken with him , had a photograph or autograph signed nothing was to much trouble he really is a top guy.

Was going to say exactly the same. This bit " He said that he had to adapt as the season developed, using people and casting them aside if need be. It involves being ruthless at times but as he said its what he is paid for!

Sentimentality towards some players absolutely crushes teams and their hopes.

    Cheers Dudley.

Thank you Dudley for an excellent report. All very encouraging and strengthens the feeling that KJ is the manager we have been looking for, for many years. However he still needs to get us out of this division and make up the 8pts difference at the top. Also our lousy goal ratio won't help. I would have loved to hear more about his policy on scouting especially abroad but I guess that wasn't brought up.

As we saw when we lost five in a row people's feelings towards the manager can change rapidly here. However what I love is he wants us to play passing football from the back and is willing to give the best young players every chance of making the grade. He combines toughness, shrewdness and what you might call a strong moral core imv. That is hard to beat. Of course there will be dark days ahead but if Morgan has any sense at all he will back KJ all the way and not hold back when we need to add vital additions to the first team. For most of us the two Ms are the big question mark not the manager and his assistant who always tends to get forgotten.

Thanks Dudleywolf. That's very positive :)

The appointment of KJ COULD be the catalyst for a great era at our club - in the standards of the modern era of what a club of our size can achieve without huge investment.

Mick was far too sentimental. Without wishing to rake over old ground, we were one of the highest spenders yet in the final weeks of his reign we were still starting with 6/7 players who had been in the Championship side 4 years earlier. It's good to hear that KJ will ditch players who aren't up to it. As we've seen this year with Ricketts, which still surprises many fans given how key he was last year. It will help keep players on their toes rather than knowing that no matter how poor they are if they "put a shift in" the shirt is still theirs.

Any manager who gives youth a chance will always be held in regard by many Wolves fans. We love to see "one of our own" come through and establish themselves. And it must serve as huge inspiration for the kids to see that they will be given that chance, something that was sadly lacking for the last few years.

Really love this guy. Something I didn't expect to say when he was appointed!!

Only concern from that is there appears to be no one coming in to compete with Edwards. If Edwards picks up an injury then what?
Seems a bit of a risk to me.

Jacobs seems way out of favour, Afobe never played that role, Kmac needed in central midfield, Sako not as effective there and Evans not effective there.

I think we need a more dynamic midfielder and should look to replace Kmac in the summer. We need to move the ball quicker - a slow midfield can only hinder a pacey forward line.

I would be amazed if Jacobs is not released at the end of this season, which ever division we are in. The fact that he has rarely played or even come on as sub/made the bench says it all really. Shame, because he really impressed me last season.

We just need to sign a better Jacobs & get rid of him, he's not up to it. There has to be a left footed forward/midfielder who can play centrally or on the wing when required.

Who is the league 1 Adam Lallana these days? He'd be a perfect foil for the Edwards role ;)

Read all this and a very good report and the 'ruthless' bit was what I immediately picked up on. MM might have come over as a tough cookie but his lack of ruthlessness imo cost us dear and possibly our Prem place. Based on last January, where KJ cleared out the striking dept, showed he has teeth and is not afraid to make big decisions. Sentimentality is all very well but if we want to get on we need to move on players who do not make it or make the step up - Clarke and Jacobs would both fall into this category imo.

Yep! A lot of fans' opinions of the manager go by the last 4/5/6 results from the team, instead of looking at the bigger picture which is in most cases more sensible.
