For those who went, how did we actually lineup tonight?

    On paper it looked like:

    Price / McDonald

    Afobe / Edwards / Sako

Was it as simple as that, with Afobe out wide? How did we look in terms of shape?

I'm one of those armchair fans who follows midweek games on Twitter, see!

Nope! Edwards was deepest and Price was deployed to the right a lot of the game! It was strange but effective!

I didn't go either (must be a Tring thing) but was reading that Price played narrow on the right-hand side.

Looking forward to hearing the verdicts from those there.

Sako also had quite a free role. What was noticeable was the fluidity of the team tonight. Very impressed.

Let's all pitch in?! Was it 442, 4231, 451? Was it lopsided? Was Edwards crap? We seem to have this same debate after every game, win, lose or draw. KJ knows his players, we're 8th and in with a shout. Why not just leave it at that? I wasn't there either and I'm really pleased with the result.

My only 6/10- he's clearly rusty but needs games so tonight clearly will help.

Oh yes absolutely. He didn't do much wrong but did give the ball away a fair bit. Hause is clearly a better defender than full back

Cheers. We need Golbourne back to his best if we are to finish in the playoffs.

Didnt like the setup and thought we were very fortunate to end the half 3-0. Got cut open a few times and i think if we went in at HT 1-0 we would have reverted back to 442

Fulham's top three are top class that's why. 3-0 flattered us at the interval but not final whistle.

I thought Goldbourne looked our poorest player, although he did have a few good moments too. We were relying on both fullbacks to provide width. With Sako and Price playing very narrow.

Exactly as I saw it mate.

At times in the 1st half we put together some really good football, one of which resulted in Sako's goal.

Thought it was weird to seeing Edwards so deep and I was concerned at times how much room/space/time McCormack was getting but in the end for all Fulham's possession we defended well.

All I know is that it worked! Edwards swept up 90 % of loose/second balls. Lacked width with price out wide, but we won!

We set up with a very narrow 4 in midfield which allowed for a lot of space down either side for the full backs to push on.

Did it work?, we scored 3 with no reply but I thought we were poor first half and would of been punished against a better side as Fulham had some good chances.

I felt that the players played within themselves tonight but we were obviously set up to play against there diamond formation.

McCormack always gonna have a chance because he's quality IMO. We did well.

As has been said it was an odd one with Price out wide, presumably more to stifle than create, and Sako was popping up all over the place. Sako and Golbourne had a shocker combined down the left, kept getting caught in possession and giving it away with loose passes, but we've kept a clean sheet & Sako scored 2, assisted 1, so really they can't have been so bad!

Agreee i think it would have been better/made more sense to have Pricey in the Edwards role but after a 3-0 win, which was fairly routine, I'm just being pedantic :D

It was weird, a bit unbalanced but did the job. I also think with no natural width on the right it asked a lot of iorfa. 3-0 flattered us, but we were the better team and some good performances for me

    Kuschak - 7 little wrong
Iorfa -7 looked a threat going forward and string, but ball gets stuck under him at times
Golbourne - 6 gives us balance but a bit rusty for me
Stearman 8 - unreal how good he is playing, blocks, headers, reading the game, restarting attacks. Superb
Batth 7 great threat from set pieces and solid defensively on the whole
McDonald 8 moved the ball beautifully and I think got stuck in today as well
Price 7.5 good, the way him and kmac move the ball between them is superb, usually resulting with the later setting up an attack
Edwards 7 won a lot of lose ball and ran loads
Sako 7 seens harsh as scored 2 and set up one, but looked a bit disinterested at times and for me doesn't have the work rate to play more centrally
Dicko 6 not quite on it for me today, ball just didn't stick
Afobe 7 great runs, effort abd continues to impress

Subs were largely cameos to give dicko, sako and afobe a rest

Good work today, and good result
MOM for me would be kmac

4-3-1-2 for me but it changed a lot

Sako behind the front two, but it did depend where abd when we had possession. Good thing is that we are fluid abd can switch formations as we showed throughout and esp in second half

The formation was a tactical victory for KJ. We played very narrow in the midfield with Edwards and Kmac having very good games. Edwards won a lot of 2nd balls and sat deep in front of the centre backs filling the space that Ruiz and McCormick were trying to fill. Price played narrow to the right and Sako was also narrow on the left with Afobe and Dicko rotating in behind each other.
There was a few times that I watched DE closely and when Batth or Stearman strode forward Edwards automatically dropped into the hole in the defence..

Tonight was the first time that I saw an obvious gameplan work to nullify the opposition. Very impressed with Kenny tonight and the professionalism of the players being asked to do things that aren't natural to their game.

Onto Dave Edwards, I don't rate him in the no10 role because he doesn't have the quality to open up the opposition with a bit of skill or a clever defence splitting pass. But tonight he played a role that I have seen him playing for Wales before and I thought he did a hell of a lot of work that sometimes goes unnoticed. Numerous times the centrebacks were winning headers and he was the man winning the 2nd balls. Very very good game from DE tonight and Saturday in his original position of centre midfield.

Great 3 points shame the others around us won as well but we can only control our results, lots of twists and turns to come.

I'd say it was more 4312 with Sako given a free role but drifting more to the left when out of possession with Price shifting towards the right.

  27. Thought Dave had a good game. Couldn't really fathom the midfield but mostly Price wide right and occasionally Mac. Think they're working on keeping position and looking to get a ball through early.

I tried to figure it out all game. Couldn't figure it out.

I think it was either tactical genius playing price as a wideman or a total fluke which Dako masked over.

It confused me why Edwards was so deep. The deepest midfielder.

Can't understand why we're so narrow either.

Grew into the game. Much better in the second half IMO. Will get back to his best soon enough.

Played more of a wing back with no one in front of him.

When I saw the team my general understanding was a 4-3-1-1-1, but it panned out nothing of the sort; Price was on the right a lot of the time (he wasn't as effective as could of been, but did a job all the same) and Sako was here there and everywhere, as others have said, a free role as you will. The role he played tonight is the best I have seen him since pre ACON and I think he should be allowed to roam and do as he pleases.

Price was wide when we were chasing possession and back in when we had it.
I also noticed we sat deep to enable us to spring counter attacks more effectively, which worked well at breaking both Rotherham and Fulham down

Agree price and sako in particular moved positions dependant on whether we had the ball or not.

Exactly the same as Saturday but Price for Henry, thankfully we won as Price was not comfortable but with Sako tucking inside & having that spark it made us look good when he was on.

4 4 2 With Sako and Price narrow.

  39. A few more of them from Sako and we may just make it but generally we tended to keep and switch the ball much better. There looked a lot more strength everywhere. The play in the final third was excellent with Afobe and Dicko holding the ball much better. Hard to criticise but if they can turn defence into attack and vice versa much quicker we will get better. Plenty of times our full backs got forward but nobody followed them. If we can keep it tight down the flanks all the better. Afobe has improved us immeasurably and Kuszczak is organising the defence well. I think they call this a Plan B.

This - I was going bananas before the game on hearing the team, after saturday's performance, and presumes that Price had been brought in to man mark someone, but after 5 minutes that clearly wasn't the case.

IMO we played a 4-3-3 with one of the fron three dropping short occasionally. Fulham certainly didn't exploit the width of the pitch very well Especially on the left. Sako was very central for most of the game.
