Just had a long, informative, understanding and very aware of the situation phone call from Mr. Matt Grayson about flags..

This week at Wolves it has been very difficult, in terms of making the right decision about whether to go ahead with flags for the Blackburn game or not.

Everyone at Wolves including Mr. Steve Morgan is very keen to go ahead. Indeed the flags are here now. Wolves have been, and are still thinking hard about whether to go ahead with the decision to risk it and create an incredible vision of celebration if we stay up, or to run the risk of scenes similar to Cardiff last night if we go down.

In addition to this incredibly difficult problem, a safety issue has been raised from the stadium manager. Wolves, as always, being extremely aware of safety would not allow anything that compromised the strict stadium safety rules. It was pointed out that the previous time that flags were allowed, the mood was celebratory from the start so no one expected anything other than good feelings on that day. This time it is very different. A final decision has still not been made but we will be told very soon, mainly after resolving the Health and Safety issue.

In the mean time, the reason for this new thread is to hope that some of you may like to help if the flags go ahead. Given the time scale we are now very concerned whether we can provide enough volunteers in time.

To clear up the situation with the flags. Thanks to the feed back from on here we would be giving out the flags for free now. The flags do not have anything even slightly celebratory on them, simply Forever Wolves. Pride and Passion etc. There would be an opportunity for an optional, non obligatory donation to Wolves charities. Helpers would be required for approx 2 hours prior to kick off to give out flags and collect charity donations both in and around the stadium. As an incentive for helpers a free ticket to a pre season home game would be provided, refreshments, usually bacon rolls, tea/coffee etc will be supplied. As an added incentive Matt has said I can offer a free stadium tour and a meet with a few players to express their thanks. This would of course, all be early next season.

The club does really care about what you think and how you feel about this and are hoping that the decision when it is made will be the correct one and that we will end up enjoying what could be an incredible and momentous day.

Please help if you can by P.M. or email as it is now very urgent. to paul.king@wolvesfans.org. or paul@ep-services.co.uk.

    Thanks.
    P.K.

Sorry to the guys who are against this. I did say in the title do not read it.

I've read it. Crazy in my mind as I've said all along if there's a chance of us going down (which there is) they are absolutely barmy barking mad to go ahead. How embarassing if the worst happens we will be the laughing stock. Throw them all away.

Not in anyway though would they be seen as celebration during the game, just as a way of urging the team on. If we win then at the end we go mad If we go down then it would be seen as just the crowd trying to get behind the team to win a really important game. Not that embarrassing really.

Agreed. Hope it goes well & well done on helping to organise pumpking - I would volunteer if I lived closer to Wolves.

The stage-managed way in which clubs now operate is tedious. The same thing happened at the cup final where both sets of supporters were using flags of the desired regulation with meaningless logos, ( like Forever Wolves is) The media have picked up on this and we hear the same old drivel about passion etc. In my view another sanitised aspect which has allowed clubs to become clones of one another. The character of individual clubs and real passion for the peoples' game is gradually being strangled to suit an image.

    Boring.

Hi PK are the flags the same ones as in the Stev Morgan feature in the E&S & the recent SSN report?

perhaps they should be just stuck under the seats until our fate becomes clear!

  10. Howabout we all get one, and if we're winning 3-0 with 5 minutes left then we can start waving them? I certainly won't be waving anything around before the game, but if we do stay up (and keep off the pitch) then the flags would look alright.

We have even offered to do exactly that 25,000 times.
Part of the safety problem I guess.

Another one of the safety issues, with fans running on the pitch a flag could be deemed to be dangerous if you trip up. They are taking every possible eventualilty into consideration, thats why its taking so long for us to get an answer.

Simple solution to that one, stay off the pitch.

It's all being done with good and positive intent but you can't legislate for human emotion, if things go awry you'll just have a visual statement without the words of being let down again – food for the image hungry media. I think most people expect us to survive but if it doesn't happen there will be a reaction.

It is better to keep the flags and hand them out at the first home game next season in the PL or on winning the championship next season. At the end of the day it is just a flag and we haven't needed them up till now. Also, do we really want to celebrate survival with flag waving? - because that is what it will be seen as however it is dressed up.

If there is nothing celebratory on them I don't see the problem personally.

It all adds to the atmosphere I think and it looks like we are building an atmosphere rather than celebrating.

Thanks for organising this Pumpking - good on you. Sorry I'm not in a position to help you out on Sunday.

That is of course an option they have mentioned. The flags have no date on and for Dewsbury`s information they are the ones that Steve Morgan is shown waving. He is well up for it by the way.

how about just hand them out to kids. think you've got more the 'grumpy old man audience' here on MM. if kids get a free flag, they love it, and then they'll be happy and the parents will be happy and everyone will sing and dance the night away!

As for the flags, some slimy little oik in front of me waving his crappy plastic flag stopped me from seeing Karl Henry lift the Championship trophy aloft.

Therefore, you can shove your flags where the Sun doesn't shine.

Pump king, if you recall I was the 1st to react negatively to the initial thread - based mainly on the charging issue (match ticket for the mighty Blackburn is £40!). Other fans thought celebratory flags if we went down was asking for trouble. If they are free that's great- let's just hope we stay up now! If I lived near to Wolves I would help. Good luck and I hope you get your volunteers.

Why is it that you think someone is who is trying to help the club...when asked ...is after attention. Maybe he wishes he hadn't been asked.

    What do you do? Sad

Can we not do what QPR did and leave the flags on each seats ??? Was not a H&S issue for them.
Also have collection buckets outside ground before and after game (IF we stay up more likely for people to donate cause we'll be happy)
Theses flag are not just a celebration 'cause we stayed up' - How about an IMAGE to the WORLD that Wolves are here and in Gold and Black !!!!! LET THE WORLD SEE THE GROUND BUZZING

I see Dortmund Yellow/Black scarfs and tops and wish we could produce something like that.

Someone summed up the response to this type of innitiative perfectly " "Grumpy Old Men"

    Hate goal music
    Hate flags
    Hate half time entertainment
    Hate the new shirt
    Hate the sponsors logo
Hate the shirt flag ...gets in the way
Hated the attempt to create a new anthem
Don't tell me when to cheer or what to sing

For $$$$s sake why do some of them bother going, and it is not compulsory to join in....Just like the sound of their own threads....

Football should be an event and anything that adds to the atmosphere should be embraced and is by the silent majority.....Remember a few years ago took my German mates from Hamburg to the Mol V West Brom (3-1 N'dah game).....They said it was OK but "where are the flags and banners"........Had to explain it was a H& S thing and also not in our culture...they couldn't get their heads around the fact that we go to a game and spend the entire match screaming obscenities at the opposition fans and not getting behind our own team.........

Imagine being a player and walking out to a mass of Gold & Black flags on every side of the ground......can only be positive.......so what if we lose .......ah some of you would blame it on the flags and come on here saying told you so.....get a $$$$in' life:confused:

Genuine question but can someone tell me how on the slightest a flag, or even 25000 flags, will add a jot to the atmosphere?

What adds to tbe atmosphere is a few beers pre game, roar on the lads as they come out, and then sing till your hoarse for 90 minutes. How a flag adds to that I just don't understand.

If steve or jez really want a gimic that would in an instant help create one of the most passionate and vocal atmospheres of recent times then I will lend him my iPod, tell him to search for Harry j and the all-stars and press play at about 3.55pm on Sunday. Job done.

    Cheers Smokey,

We`ve offered to do the seat thing, and worked out it would only take two full days to do the lot. it would guarantee every one would have one. We`ll do whatever they want though and if its cancelled we might even get a drink and get to see the game.

It's a great idea Paul, ignore the members who rubbish yours (and everyone elses) ideas. If people want a flag have one, if you don't, don't. I'm unavailable I'm afraid mate, The daughter has put an end to this sort of thing for a while, Jo & I will be back though!
