I am concerned that a degree of panic is setting in with the run-up to the transfer deadline. Trials of average players, being linked with the same, all have the stamp of a desperate need to bring someone in for the sake of it. It is the all more frustrating as it seems the team is one the edge of a potentially productive spell. We have just had a nine game period since the win over Sunderland, with extremely close-fought games, and good performances. These performances have then picked up even more with the arrival of Frimpong. With only 7 points from the games, the results dont look brilliant, even if the run of games has included 4 out of the top 5, but it has been clear for everyone that the team has begun to come together. In a situation like this, it is imperative to hold your nerve above all else. Find that extra few % out of the players and tactics to win half your games, rather than repeating what McCarthy has called heroic failures. Dont disrupt the team with too many changes, dont undermine the unity of the squad with too many meaningless additions. We have a full complement of keepers, defenders, wingers and strikers. For the next three games or so, McCarthy will have to go with Frimpong, Milijas and Edwards with Guedoria as backup. That is not a bad choice at all.
