I'm seeing bits on social media this morning that he has written off our ambition to reach the top 6 , did anyone see/hear what he actually said ?

There are people on here who do as well. Apparently his comments were after the game last night? in
Anyway he's an ex pro being paid a small fortune to spout *******s about football to fill a 3 hour slot. You can get that sort of wisdom in any pub. he might be right, he may not but I doubt Fosun or the club will just give up because Carragher thinks no one else can join the top 6.

He was saying pre- match that we will struggle to attract the top players because given the choice they will go to one of the Top sides. He said a player will not be tempted by ' a project'. All seemed a bit odd.

He basically said that it’s very difficult. He said he isn’t even sure if it’s possible for a club to consistently do it with FFP - might get in once or twice.

Tough to disagree, but next season is massive for us. If we can keep Neves away from the big boys and add 3/4 real quality names into the team, then anything is possible.

Carragher was being honest. And if it was any other team then we’d struggle to disagree with him.

He seems to forget where Chelsea and Man C's success has come from. Money and good recruitment. We have both.

I've seen the clips, he didn't forget that, he made that exact point. He said Chelsea and City only managed it because of - I think "life changing" was the term he used - sums of money, which he said he isn't sure was possible any more due to FFP. If anything, Kluivert was more dismissive than JC.

I'm no fan of Carragher, but from what I saw, you'd have to really try hard to be offended by anything he said last night.

"It will be difficult for a newly promoted team to break into the top 6" is hardly the most controversial statement.

Carra said the only way to break into the top 6 is with a “life changing” amount of money, and that he’s not sure FFP would even allow that now. Both true and hard to disagree with.

What he and Kluivert both said was that no player would come to wolves over the top 6, and no player buys into “the project” over money. Moutinho, Patricio, Neves, Jota etc all go against that view somewhat.

He is entitled to his opinion and given the constraints of FFP it is not an easy thing to achieve.

None of those players were wanted by the top six though so we weren’t competing against them.

    This is what he said!

Personally I find him very hard work to listen to I still can’t dispel from my mind the image of him spitting at those people. Yet here he is, in all of our living rooms, getting paid a small fortune to promote his Scouse agenda. Last night you could tell he was disgusted with Chelsea for not putting it up to City to assist his old club’s title ambitions.

It says as much about Sky as it does about Carragher that they have allowed such a low life to remain in their smug members club. It makes my stomach turn. The idea that we would break into the top six and their smug members club, was completely dismissed out of hand by the spitter!!

The bitterest pill of all to swallow is that we are the ones giving oxygen to Carragher and the rest of them, feathering their nests by paying our subscriptions!!!

I would love to unsubscribe and only remain because I get to see my beloved Wolves on a reasonably regular basis!

I don’t know this Carragher bloke, I assume he’s some tv guy. But are his comments thread-worthy?
Do we need to care or post every time someone says something less than complementary about Wolves?

I think he is right. If we bid £50m for a player and he has the choice to come here or go to Chelsea or Arsenal then it's hard to see him coming here.

But I don't think that is the plan. I think Fosun plan is to pay £5m to £20m for good young players that the big boys consider a risk. They will want to buy the finished article. Every interview I have heard with Jeff he keeps using the word "patience"

    Old Chinese proverb

"You want a years prosperity grow rice. If you want ten years prosperity grow bamboo. If you want a hundred years prosperity grow the people"

We will not be buying the finished article, unless we drop lucky on a few the big boys don't fancy. We will use excellent scouting, Jorges inside knowledge, and Nuno's ability to improve a player.

My point was more against his comment that no player buys into a project. All of those certainly have, especially those who were convinced to come to us in the championship.

Think is you look at the top 6

Man city only buying top top players. There squad is made and will only invest in 1 or 2 players at most

Man united change in manager unsure on what they will do

Spurs go no cash due to stadium

Arsenal going backwards and again don’t seem like they will send

Liverpool invested a lot in last few windows again might be one or 2.

Chelsea. Maybe the ones who are in need of a squad rebuild but will the owner invest.

Yes if we Are going head to head with any of the above then we might loose out. But I can not see major investment from any of the teams. So us finishing best of the rest will only help lure the better players to us.

What about his statement about players not coming to the Wolves project?
I found it all a bit disrespectfull. Very dissmissive almost like 'how dare they even think about it'. I hate the best of the rest comment also.

I don’t mind Carragher too much. He hasn’t been disrespectful to us or dismissive, he quite clearly just doesn’t understand how we will break into the elite. That’s fair enough, because it’s not normal for a team to try.

We will though, and the way we will do it is not by attracting the current top players (Moutinho, Patricio aside), but by attracting the NEXT top players. Neves, Jota, Vinagre, Dendoncker, Traore. All signed for less than Everton paid for Sigurdsson and Keane. That’s how not to do it.

Much as I try to dislike Carragher, I'm really struggling to these days. He's generally been fair to us this season, and has consistently praised us (that Sky presenter was doing his damnedest to get Carragher and Kluivert to say Boly's goal was a foul on the keeper, but neither would have it). These reported comments seem pretty fair too. Why would a top six quality player choose Wolves and their project over instant European football and big bucks? Top six fringe players perhaps, but not first teamers. Breaking into the top six is the single most important thing after establishing ourselves in the Prem.

By not understanding or researching Fosuns plans for Wolves he is being dismissive. He gets paid fortunes for his opinion he could at least talk to Shi or Laurie and then at least have half a clue.
The way we are going about our business if different to how other clubs have done it and who is to say it wont succeed. You only have to look at Fosuns accounts to see they are hugely successfull at what they do.

Think people get far too precious. Only the most golden-tinted Wolves fans would think we'd break the top six this season. We're not the only club with a plan and rich owners.

Saying top players would choose Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal over Wolves is not offensive in the slightest. It is common sense.

Doesn’t matter what he or any pundit says it won’t alter Nuno’s philosophy of play to win every game, which is so refreshing to see, league position will take care of itself just take it one game at a time, work hard and constantly look to improve in every department and eventually we will get there

Did he mean this season or that we won’t ever break into it?

    Yep, completely agree.

Carragher is right, we can't attract the players that are on £200k a week at the moment as the FFP has changed to make it harder for promoted teams.
Our project has to continue as it is and we need to break into the big 6/7 by being a bit more cute with our purchasing.
If that happens, then players will then be more attracted to the club.
We have a long way to go though yet.

FFP is designed, whether by intention or luck, to suit the already large clubs with massive financial muscle. It will be difficult fo Wolves to spend the sort of money that we actually possess. I can see one day a club such as Wolves legally challenging FFP as profitability is not a good measure of a clubs health.

In any other business an owner can pump their own money in to grow and improve, but not in football seemingly. I didn’t see much of what he said as negative. The Newcastle bias last night , I think, came from Benitez being his old boss. Kluivert, lets be honest, was a dreadful guest, in the pre match analysis he had absolutely nothing to contribute. I was there by the way but had an invite into a box hence my opportunity to watch the sky build up.

We absolutely cannot spend a billion in under a decade, nor will Fosun want to. Anyone believing we will is incredibly delusional, especially with the stadium enhancements.

Firstly, there are only so many 'top players' that can play at the top six. They can only field 11 at a time. I'm sure there are more top players around that want to be starters than you can fill all the top 6 starting XIs with.

Secondly, it all becomes irrelevant when we ARE in the top six in the next couple of years.

    Indeed.

I wish someone amongst these pundits would just have the balls on TV to call it true...

They debate all the incidents and decisions, choose to judge ambition against the reality of how it is, but when it comes to calling out the 'closed shop' business restrictive environment their balls go missing with Financial Foul Play.
