Pleased to see a game at last but not so happy with the result and the performance Callum Wilson was far too sharp for our defenders and we were very slow to adapt to the rather bouncy pitch. Bournemouth with the extra man in midfield were very quickly on to any Wolves player in possession. Sako in particular in the first half was caught time and time again. There were some good individual performances but Bournemouth controlled the game. I do despise their cheating though and they spent the whole game trying to get one of ours sent off rolling over or playing dead at the slightest contact. We did press back in the second half but were forced to play the ball long as we had lost the midfield and decision making and at times control let us down

Kuszczak 7 - his kicking was appalling but he in reality had little to do. Very nearly saved the penalty.
Doherty 7 - had a good game and made important interceptions throughout. A confident and committed display.
Stearman 4 - Done up like a kipper by Wilson at the corner flag for the first allowing the fatal cross to come in and too slow as Wilson in giving away the penalty. Fought hard throughout the rest of the game.
Batth 7 - Steady and had a solid enough game.
Hause 7 - Very impressed with him. He is only going to get better with experience. Took a lot of responsibility and was not afraid to play.
Van La Parra 8 - Lively all game and always made himself available. Some good runs but Bournemouth defended well against him as a unit.
Edwards 1 - That score could be for Bournemouth as in the first half he only ever passed backwards. Hid at times, hardly ever was where he was needed and got nowhere near the opposition except on a couple of occasions. Possibly the slowest player I have ever seen in a Wolves shirt, the exact opposite of the nippy tenacious midfielders Bournemouth had.
McDonald 9 - Fantastic player. Worldy pass for our goal and fought for the cause all game. When pressed he twisted and turned or used his strength to keep possession. One solo run ended in a shot off target on the run that had a touch of the George Berry's about it.
Sako 5 - Set the wrong time on his alarm clock. Started playing when we were 2-1 down. Terrible first half, reasonable second.
Afobe 7 - Very cool finish for his goal but let down by the midfield.
Dicko 4 - Never got in the game, nothing came off for him.

    Subs:
    Doyle 6 - Ran around a bit.

Ref: Reasonable but let them run the clock down for the last ten. At least didn't fall for their cheating.

Sounds like Edwards had a shocker! I'm not surprised. I cant believe Kenny plays him in a 442! Big mistake!
    Cheers for the report Poole.

Batth was at fault for the first. Not solid enough IMO.

Erratic Sako strikes again it seems. Have to agree with others..There is no need to tinker with a winning formula and I just don't buy the argument for the need to rotate and rest players during busy periods. They are quick to use the old cliche "taking it a game at a time" perhaps KJ and his team should apply that when picking the team..

Must also add...I felt that was KJ's worst post match interview since his tenure started..sounded clueless for the first time..

Can't see us getting anything out of Watford unless we match their attacking tactics they often put faith in..

Didn't want to say it after the Rotherham game because he scored so would just get met with a 'what do you know' statements, but Edwards was awful that day in a 2 man midfield and sounds like he was again today.

Because it's not his game, he works hard and harasses well but he doesn't have the intelligence to play in a 2 for me.

He either plays behind the striker, where to his credit he may pop up with a goal or two and has good movement in the box or he doesn't play at all.

Easy with hindsight I know but tonight is where he should have played behind the striker, instead of Dicko. Would have made us much more solid and a stronger base to counter on.

And in games we want/expect to dominate from the first whistle, he simply must not play.

To be honest , I think we know our level, we rarely beat the top 6 but do well against the rest.
This would suggest we are one or two short, who'd have thunk it...

Don't understand the clueless bit at all.
He was clearly disappointed that two major decisions went against us, but also felt we lacked aggression at times and were too slow to get the ball to our forward players.

I'm sorry but the Bournemouth midfield did work hard, really hard. They were quick to every ball and in the face of every Wolves player in possession. Edwards ran towards this guy with the ball who passed it, he then ran towards the next guy etc... but never ever got in their faces. He just does not have the pace over two or three yards to do it. It is seriously embarrassing. If he does get possession he quickly passes it back to a Wolves defender whereas McDonald, Van la Parra, Sako were all twisting and turning to try and make space and get forward.

I swore I would never watch Wolves again while Edwards is in the team and will go so far as to say that he is the biggest reason we lost today and will be the biggest reason if we fail this season. He is a shockingly limited player, I do not understand why he is still here.

    Just back

Woeful performances, slow, unimaginative hard to pick any positives

Stearman probably at fault for two goals but one better players
McDonald looked a threat going forward once again

    On whole

Two fullbacks were woeful.... IMO best two left on bench again
Cm was powder puff they played it around us got in space

We created 2-3 chances top, got away with it first half but couldn't again

Bournmouth deserved winners for footballing ability but boy once again were they expose as biggest cheats in the league

    All game in refs ear
    Time wasting was beyond laughable
Penalty was a dive but rash tackle by stears so can see why given

And also seen it was outside the box

So conclusion is were not good enough for top 6
And hopefully karma meets bournmouth and they get cheated out of promotion

Poole wolf i wouldnt be as harsh on one player for a pretty poor and frustrating second half.We didnt really get going until the last 15-20 mins of first half when we stopped hoofing the ball up the pitch but played abit of football which Bournemouth struggled to cope with.I would say given another 5-10 mins and we probably would of gone ahead.But...

Second half was diabolical.Pen or no pen we simply played poorly which after our revival in the first makes it feel even more disappointing.I was surprised KJ didnt try and change the game as it was crying out for something to change the game.In the end Doyle came on and did very little.More effective was swapping Sako with VLP but really it was a little desperate.

I thought we had a good shout for a pen at the end as well so like to see that again.

Agree about the pitch it had a strange, high bounce which obviously favoured the home team as they are use to it and made controlling the ball quite difficult at times.

    My MOM was Mcdonald.

Thought Hause was ok today apart from silly mistakes at end.Stears at fault for goals.Wonder when EEL will get another chance at the back.

    Poor team performance

    Kuzasck should saved pen
Fullback both dire and best pair on bench
Batth wasteful possession and caught out position trying chase striker dropping deep in not winning ball
Stearman fault for two goals, rash nonsense tackle for pen but saved certain goal five mins later

    Edwards didn't realise was playing
McDonald nothing defensively, great through ball for goal and lengthy run at bournmouth nearly running 60yards with ball and scoring edge area

Sako was playing 60% summed up his evening when he tried score FK from 40 which never ever going in
    Rvlp crap in all honesty

Afobe good finish for goal, should done better second chance moments later IMO
    Dicko rarely noticed

Poor team selection this was down to. Edwards was awful yet he lasted 90 minutes which was even worse, doesn't do enough in a 2 man midfield for me.

Not only 442, but 442 with 2 attacking wide players with Edwards in the midfield. Anyone could see that was just a bad idea.

Seems that the need to address central midfield, or the continued failure to do so, is going to cost us. A tough game for us but MacDonald badly needs a good player alongside him. A tough fixture, the result is not the end of the world.

Edwards and Dicko badly need replacing, and the fact that we havent will cost us at the end of the season. Dicko served his purpose, but I'm afraid he simply isnt good enough to fire us into the PL . Edwards has had a good season, gives his all, but again, hasnt got that extra ounce that makes a difference... as ever its close but no cigar

    Verdict - Bournemouth

After making the trip, fighting the road works, I parked at the ground, and joined the expectations of other Wolves fans in the ground. alas it was not to be.

First half we did not get going for the first twenty five minutes and they put the ball in the back of the net after an uncharacteristic mistake from Stears one of a number that he did before they scored. We slowly worked our way back into the game and a delightful ball from KMac set Afobe on his way and with a cool head found the back of the net.

Second we were not at the races. Bournemouth played some good football and always won the second ball. They seemed to have an extra man whilst our defence seemed detached from attack. The penalty just took the stuffing out of the game.

    Scores

Thomas 6 did not do a lot wrong, he made regulation saves, his kicking was a bit wayward, but he was very close to saving the penalty

Doc 6 he made a fair number of interceptions but I think this game was made for Iorfa and was disappointed he was not selected.

Danny 7 probably the pick of our defenders, I thought he would be exposed to the Bournemouth pace but he coped OK. Headed, blocked and tackled...still needs to work at his distribution

Stears 5 an off night for Stears he had made three small mistakes before the first goal and he gave away the penalty before starting to perform like he has done most of the season.

Hause 6 he played alright to be honest, I was hoping for Golbourne but Hause did an alright job. He was targeted with two always overloading him but coped most of the time.

KMac 8 MOTM played well in a midfield dominated by Bournemouth. It tried manfully to shore up the defensive side of midfield but this stifles his creative side

Edwards 5 struggled tonight with a Bournemouth midfield that exposed his defensive frailties. To be fair he was played out of position and he is not a defensive midfielder.....

RVLP 4 he can run....he bottles 50:50 balls, his delivery is poor, his runs were down blind alleys

Dicko 5 tried hard but not a lot worked for him tonight was well shepherded by their defence

Afobe 7 our one bright spark on the night, tricky customer, makes good runs, keeps the ball, but service to him was poor

Sako 6 not a good night for Sako, he was kept away from the danger area by a busy Bournemouth midfield.

Ref on the whole was fair and let the game flow.

Kenny 5 picked three wrong players IMO Iorfa, Goldie and Henry should have been on the pitch. Subs were way way too late

Fans 8 fair play most came a long way and kept up some noise but the accolade must go to the Bournemouth fans who started before the players came out and kept it going throughout the match and long after the final whistle

When I see a player get 1 I really feel that there is an agenda being pursued. It is obvious from what other posters have said that he did not have one of his better games. From your second post Poole it certainly appears he tried hard but came off second best. As he is after two reasonable performances in this position it appears that it is harsh to now come out and say, as others have, that I told you so, he doesn't fit in such a position. Bournemouth got the game plan right. We lost. Get over it, on to the next match and lets hope for a better result. We will certainly have other set backs before the end of the season.

We were outplayed by a very good Bournemouth side

Yes they "cheated" but to be honest I think they showed guile to get it over the line

Their defence shepherded our strong attack very well and stuck to their task.

It was their midfield and attack that really clicked and played well

One to forget and move onto the next

I'd have personally played Iorfa and Price ahead of Doherty and RVLP but I can just about understand the thinking behind the starting XI:

    - Iorfa had his poorest game of the season at Cardiff;
    - The last two away games where Price and McDonald started centrally resulted in poor performances and being over-run at Bolton and Norwich. McDonald's form has improved next to Edwards so I can understand why we would keep that pairing together. I would have personally kept Price in his more narrow position on the right and (ironically given the criticisms directed at Jackett at times), it was probably a case of one attacking player too many last night.

Regardless of line-ups, however, you can't legislate for individual errors like those which resulted in Bournemouth's goals last night. Neither Stearman nor Batth covered themselves in glory for the first, although I attach more blame to Stearman as there is just no way that the cross should have come in from there. The timing and nature of the second was dreadful and killed any momentum that we had from our spell just before half-time.

Can't be too harsh on Stearman who has been immense in recent weeks but it's a shame that his errors came in such a crucial game.

Saturday becomes hugely important now. A defeat could end any realistic hopes of the play-offs with Ipswich and Brentford facing each other. Watford are superb away from home so I'm feeling slightly nervous.

Some verdicts simply reflect preconceived views on players. Look at the fullback scores - sounds like they did ok but some are marking them down simply because they would have picked Golbourne and Iorfa.

Player of the season simple as that, he has massively helped us get points all season.
Danny Batth gave the ball away cheaply from which Stearman gave away a penalty for their second goal
I didn't hear one person complaining about Stears last night including everyone on the coach all the way home

Yep. And Batth a 7? Must have played out of his skin for the rest of the game after being at fault for the first. Yes stearman should have blocked the cross but Batth is absolutely now where near the striker.

    Morning Edgo
Agree with most of your thread with the exception of:
IMO Hause was poor, got caught out and gave the ball away far too many times
The referee was less than average, Callum Wilson kicked the ball away 3 times unpunished, their number 7 was booked and 10 minutes later made a bad foul that went unpunished and I believe we should have had a penalty in the last few minutes for a handball, Kenny Jacket also states the said handball in his post match interview as well as claiming their penalty was outside the box

Didn't agree with the selection last night. We left footballers on the bench and went for pace and power. Worst of all KJ didn't attempt to change it really. Bad day at the office. Should have been Price for Edwards and Golbourne for Hause and possibly Henry for VLP or Sako second half.

Everyone has bad games, and when it's a keeper/defender it's usually highlighted more because it often ends in goals. Stearman has been one of our best players this season and the fact he made a couple of errors doesn't change that! Even Kompany, one of the best CB's in the world is getting stick at the minute because of his form, $$$$ happens. Let's hope Stears is back to his usual self on Saturday.
