I've just been thinking whilst watching this on Setanta but surely this had to be a bad idea to choose as a Monday night TV game. Not because it's Blyth but more that with them being a Non League team most of their players will be part-time and therefore holding down "proper" jobs. Therefore they might possibly have put in a shift today (Setanta commentators did make some patronising references to it) whilst the Blackburn players (they're playing the kids plus fringe players) will have had a relaxing drive up. All in all a bleeding stupid idea by Setanta to make a non league club play on a Monday night when they could have let them play at the weekend. Then again since when did TV companies think.

Had to laugh at some of the wags in the crowd chanting "you're supposed, you're supposed, you're supposed to be at work" :D

Do Blyth have anything going forward? or is it just a matter of time?

All Blackburn really but Blyth are managing to hold out. It is really just a matter of time but still 0.0 at 55 minutes.

The Commentator did say that some of the Blyth players had blagged an earlier finish from work (plus they are at home) but it still smacks of stupidity to have them play on a "work" night when it would have been more sensible to choose a lower League team against Prem club rather than non league.

Just said the money from their Cup run will keep them afloat for the next 3 years.

1.0 Blackburn from a Free-kick. Villeneuva (just about to be replaced by Jason Roberts) puts it in. Then gets replaced. Keith Andrews on as well.

They earn a lot more money because its on tv.. I'm sure they would take mondya night on tv over a weekend fixture not on tv.

How's it a level playing field? Blackburn players travel up from Lancashire whilst half (maybe more) of the Blyth players put in a day's work.

So why not have it as the Sunday game and make Saints V Man. United the Monday game?

Because two teams are asked to fulfill a fixture at a certain date and time. I know what your saying and it could have been taken into "account"

Why don't you email Setanta and ask them what the reasoning was?

I guess I'm just a little biased in a sense because the Commentator said the Blyth Spartans Manager is a Caretaker for his local Youth Club (or something similar) so it struck a chord with me.

I think the chants of "we hate Setanta" that have reverberated around the ground a couple of times might answer that one for me.

Bleeding annoying how they keep sticking a microphone in front of the Blyth Manager & Big Sam every 20 minutes also.

Keith Andrews blazes an opportunity over the bar from less than 10 yards.

ITV did the same thing in yesterdays Gillingham v Villa same with the Gills assistant manager. It just not football if you ask me. Every 10 minutes they were asking what they were going to do next and how well they were playing.

Sky have a reporter on the touchline but he doesnt interview anyone and they only use him if something has happened that is of interest.

The FA Cup just doesnt feel the same this season without BBC and Sky. ITV and Setanta are just average at best when it comes to broadcasting football.

Fantastic sweeping run from Blyth, trading passes between 4 or 5 players, ball across the box and the Blyth man puts it just wide of the far post. If folks thought Blyth would tire towards the end they were sadly mistaken.

Final whistle and it finishes Blyth Spartans 0 Blackburn Rovers 1.

All in all it should have been much more comfortable for Big Sam's boys. Matt Derbyshire guilty of missing a couple of chances (including one offside decision). Jason Roberts even took the ball over to the corner flag on 90 minutes to "wind the clock down" against a non league team.

Cheers for the commo Dewsburywolf, shame they didn't put that chance away sounds like Blackburn deserved nothing from the game. Always the way

Setanta have just ruined football even more. Friday and Monday night FA cup games and clashing premiership ties with the football league, bell ends.

Just passing comment re: the decision to select this game for a Monday night as opposed to a weekend. Players at this level train twice a week, generally, usually on a Tuesday and Thursday.

Players have been at work all day before attending training on an evening. Give a non league player a choice and they will prefer to play instead of train.

So, play a Premiership team tonight instead of training tomorrow night will not have been a problem for Spartans.

The big issue here for me, is that the club I work for (Telford) were due to play Blyth this Saturday just gone. Now the fixture will be rearranged and we must travel up there for a midweek fixture. Now, train on a Tuesday night or book a Tuesday afternoon and Weds morning off work to go to bloody Blyth on a bleak February evening - well, there's a choice!

Good. I wonder what the official viewing figures have been when there have been clashes - anyone care to provide this info? Did the CCC dick the Prem on any day?
