Only slightly Mugwump!! To be fair, I wasn't overly excited by him signing but felt he'd be a decent option for us and certainly no worse than any of our other reserve forwards! Never in a million years did I think he'd have the impact that he has though!!

    Nice to be wrong sometimes

I thought he'd probably get about 10-15 goals in by the end of November.

The reaction to the signing of Iwelumo was an expected one. Bar Colchester he hadn't been classed as a great striker.

When it was quoted as a £1m signing...the general reaction was "A million wasted, pointless spending that amount of money"

When it came out at £400k, the general reaction calmed down to a "well its a gamble worth taking at that price"

    League 13 (1) = 13 Goals
    League Cup - 1 (1) = 2 Goals

Awesome awesome return, but its not just about the goals.

I for one on the other wolves site praised him. I remember watching him on sky when he was at charlton and the guys effort was immense if i recall right he had an injury but that didnt slow him down as he competed for everything! What a bulldog

Steve Cotterill mentioned that after Iwelumo came back from a spell in Germany he was a different player. The German mental strength rubbed off on Iwelumo. He went from a journeyman to a Wolves legend. Easy to see how the Germans do so well at World Cups without having any superstars- its all about mental toughness and an inner belief.

You could half his goal return and he'd still be up there for player of the season so far. He leads the line so well, and is great with the other players. Top bloke.

Taken from the Iwelumo signing thread. Whoops.

Sorry Chris. I'm loving this humble pie - goes well with custard, by the way.

Its good of you to apologise Mugwump - and there's plenty on here that should maybe own up too!!

But to be absolutely fair - I don't think any of us (or anyone else in football in fact) could possibly have predicted the start he's had to his wolves career...

For me - full credit goes to Mick too - he obviously saw something in Chris that he knew he could work with...

I think there are plenty of lessons this season for all of us - in particular, lets not jump to conclusions all the time about signings before any of us have ever even seen them play for Wolves... one of my pet hates sorry!!!

Probably a bit late now Mugwump, the damage to your reputation is already done. The chances of anyone taking you seriously when it comes to your opinions about players is long gone. You are a busted flush, the Ron Atkinson of football message board punditry.

Must say, it takes a very brave man to come out after all this time and admit what the rest of us knew already, it must be a massive weight off your shoulder.

I wonder what Charlton fans are making of all this. He did very little there, got moved off quietly to Wolves and is now tearing holes in championship defences.

It is a strange old game, there are certain players made for certain clubs. Iwelumo, late in his otherwise fairly unmemorable career, has finally found a club, manager and team he can thrive in.

I think most Wolves fans were indifferent to his arrival. I was just relieved we hadn't signed donkey Kyle. Chris is now heading towards being one of the most popular signings we've made in years.

I'd also like to apologise for saying Bully's first touch wasn't good enough:D

I wasn't convinced but thats because I thought he was a Kevin Kyle. As it turns out Kevin Kyle isn't fit to lace his boots, and neither am I.

I thought we signe dhim for £1M - was it really only 400K as Kenny says?

That's the same price as Paul Birch in 1991!

Kevin Kyle is not fit to buy the laces let alone tie them !
  16. I thought it was a good signing for our forward line that needed revamping with Eastwood, Kyle, Bothroyd and Elliott all out of favour.

I expected him to be 3rd choice behind SEB and Keogh, but WHAT an impact.

Chris - you're a bloody legend and if I could jump that high, I'd give you a big kiss on your deadly forehead.

Am I alone in thinking Kyle did a good job for us?
  18. No - I think he did well for us too.

But you can't compare him to Iwelumo who has made the most electrifying start possible to his Wolves career.

Alan Pardew, manager of the season. Seriously, he's as good as Mark McGhee. It's rare that Wolves are the beneficiaries of another manager's woeful ineptitude on player misjudgements but I can't help thinking Charlton fans must be thinking the same thoughts we did when Jason Roberts was establishing himself as a top class striker. I'll gladly admit that I thought Bothroyd was an exceptional footballer and would have still been waiting like a patient dog for it to all 'click in to place' but I'm not a football manager and McCarthy is. So he turfed one out and picked Charlton's pocket.

It was 400k........took advantage of a team in the $$$$ and needed to sell
