I know it is still very early in his Wolves career but is anyone else extremely excited at just how good Afobe could be? Two-footed, quick, skilful, technically very good, decent in the air and a good finisher. And only turns 22 this week.

Seems to be a really decent, down-to-earth type of guy as well who has already developed a good relationship with a number of his team-mates.

When looking at his name I can't help but wonder why he's got an irrational fear of people called Benik.

What we tend to forget is our strike partnership is
    Dicko aged 22
    Afobe aged 22
    Compare that to
    Cassidy aged 22
    McAlinden aged 21
Comparable ages yet miles apart in terms of ability and likelihood of getting better. There can't be many teams at the top end of our division with such a young pairing.I know there is always the possibility that one or the other may cause us to get our fingers burnt down the line but personally I don't think either are going to do it here.I would offload Cassidy in the Summer and send McAlinden out on a season long loan and mean it by not recalling him after a couple of months. We will then see if he can develop.
I would not take the year option on Clarke, somehow offload Siggy and we all know Doyle is going.
I know it will all depend which division we are in but there will need to be some decent recruiting for next season after we have cleared the decks

I was going to start this exact thread earlier. Must be something in the Tring water.

I haven't seen him play yet and probably won't until April (looking at the fixtures/my plans etc) but I'm very excited by him.

Was gonna post this thread after Reading.

He has pace, clever movement and is technically gifted, I think he'll bulk up a bit too as he progresses which will only add another strength to his game.

You can certainly see why he was at Arsenal and why they had high hopes for him.

I don't know if it was KJ or one of his team that spotted these 2, but they both have amazing talent, and its hard to believe how young they are, well done to all concerned

You could see straight away at the Blackpool game that he is technically very gifted. I think we have a very talented player on our hands.

I would not like to see him try to be turned into a number 10 though. From his highlights from Arsenal/MK Dons he has great strength running in behind and excellent finishing. Out and out striker for me.

Needs to cut the diving out before it becomes a feature as well.

You get the ball to him & Dicko & they are gone, he's always looking for the pass inbehind it just doesn't normally come.

The last goal was a great example of Afobe picking it up where La Parra does quite often & getting it straight through to Dicko, fair enough they gave up but it was good to see. Sako or La Parra would have dallied on it I believe & Edwards would have hit the defender.

I know La Parra did similar for the first but it's a rarity & he should have done it more was my understanding last night.

Also Vlp has all the potential to be an excellent player for us. The final ball will get better as he matures as a player.

By the sounds of last night him and Dicko seemed to alternate between the two roles, if we can get Sako and RVLP getting involved in that rotation it will be a nightmare to play against.

All 4 players seem 'capable' of playing in each of the 4 attacking roles we have obviously they are stronger in their primary role but total fluidity between them will just tear teams apart.

Yeh, again very much agree. His pace is frightening. I'm sure someone said they saw Edwards out pace him a few weeks ago when running for the ball.... And i saw a pig fly at the same time.

Very good start to his Wolves career and he has all the attributes to succeed providing he applies himself properly, which I'm sure he will.

Re: VLP, just Googled him to find his age (24 in June) and saw he's Georginio Wijnaldum's brother! Didn't know that. Perhaps he could persuade him to come here if we get to the PL :D

Quality player. I was banging on about him months ago when he was at MK Dons.
He just needs to steer clear of injuries now.

Who were the posters on here, after the Charlton draw (I think) saying that they were not impressed? I would look it up .....but I cant really be arsed.

To be fair I thought he was poor vs Charlton.. But so were the 10 others.

We look really good away from home where fast players like VLP, Dicko and Afobe can get in behind teams, Jackett needs a plan to deal with teams who sit back at Molineux. Afobe made the difference v Blackpool, where we looked flat and clueless to how to break them down. Really happy with that signing, and I predict he'll do as well as Welbeck. (OK, Post Huddersfield chuffed claims!).

I think it was more the way he was being played, getting put outwide or in the hole was the worry so not really utilising his strengths. It would be like playing Thierry Henry out wide or similar to what Welbeck does.

He was poor against Charlton so that was obviously justified. But he will be a very good player if he carries on like he is, only seen it in flashes but his ability is startling

Early days yet, but very promising signs.

And the comment above comparing Afobe/Dicko's ages to Liam and Cassidy really does put things in perspective. Cassidy is L2 level, Liam needs to develop on a season long loan. Would currently say he's L1 level, but there may be potential in there for more. Cassidy seems to be going backwards.

Early days for Dicko/Afobe partnership but the signs look good. Can't help but keep thinking we are desperate for someone to come in on loan till end of season to push these 2 for a place in team and offer something different. Someone along the lines of a Murphy or Martin. Strengh and power and a target. Chris Wood?

We do need another player to push them but that player needs pace.
The lad from Southampton, Mayuka would be a good option.

You can see that he's come from Arsenal, superb first touch, constant movement, weights his passes...and dives ;).

I think his flexibility is useful as well, whilst it wasn't a roaring success he dealt with playing wide at Bolton and can be used on his own or with a strike partner.

Don't see pace being Murphy or Martins biggest assets yet they are top of the pile in the scoring charts. Options and variation are vital for us now

Still early days but already looks a far better option than the majority of past few strikers that have played this season.

So happy for him, over the moon he has made such a good start. Hope he is over his injury problems and stays fit.

I really like this pacey, creative Sako/ Dicko/ RVLP/ Afobe frontline. Raw pace can cause any side roblems.

Very exciting partnership. Bit like when we had Akinbyi and Ndah. Let's hope they turn out better than that did.

The way we play wots that tippy tappy boring dull unadventurous dross the majority of the time followed by a lump up the park? Or have we become a dynamic passing side full of invention and fluidity over night?

Well it hasn't worked at home really but if we had a 6"2 plus 14st option & were able to get the ball into him & get runners off & around him it's another plan so to speak.

Bringing on a Dicko/Afobe/Clarke - Wilson/Grabben/Mayuka is all the same thing sort of, but you bring on a Martin/Murphy/K Jones type & you can try something different if plan A hasn't come off.

So are we now another striker needed & 4-4-2 or the number 10 & back to 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1

You're just going to say both aren't you lol

We have got pacey forwards we need a bit of variety now as well. Wood was his number one target wouldn't be surprised to see KJ try and get similar in. A major upgrade on Leon.

To be fair i remember the game and Edwards did.

Agree with Tring as well. Very excited about the potential of Afobe, as an individual & in partnership with Dicko.

Great point made by Jonzy too. Agree with much of his post re Cassidy & Macca.

I was genuinely thinking after the Reading game that I would love to see those 4 up front, with Macca / Price sitting in deep midfield, and I was chuffed to see the team sheet yesterday. I think those 4 can tear up this division if we can keep them fit, and just play sitting / counter attacking football. Love it and Afobe so far....

It worked and gave Wolves their most emphatic win of the season so I'm hoping KJ sticks with both the team and system.

Am I the only one thinking we have an outside chance of re-signing Sako, based purely on our attacking potential? He's well liked by both staff and supporters, also besties with Nouha, and he could still have the 'gentleman's agreement' in place should a top half PL side come in for him.
Doing a few sums...the cost of replacing Sako £3m, divided into a monthly salary = 83k. Plus his salary now of £108k (£25k per week)
Works out at £44k a week.
Would he really get more than that in the prem from a lower half side?

He's not good enough imo, the only teams gambling will be the ones who have gone up. Ince couldn't even get in Hulls team & player who looked good last year like Knockheart have found themselves struggling.

Saying that Pulis will probably sign him.

More to the point, we would never, ever pay that salary ever, ever, ever in this league.

And yes, he would, especially with a meaty signing on fee.

Could pull a Reus sign a new contract and go for double than what he is worth to help the club out ?

On to Afobe, he's starting to pay of that £2m he's cost so fair play to him, keep him in the hole behind Dicko and we have a deadly front 4 for next season, thats IF Sako decides to stay
