We won't be looking at him. He mentioned Wolves, and so they're pretty much obliged by journalistic code to link us with him for now.

Would he get in our team now? Stearman, Mancienne (is he staying?), Shackell, Collins & Craddock. Do we need another Centre Half?

He'd hopefully be above Collins and Craddock. If Mancienne didn't stay, he'd only be competing with Shackell and Stearman, so yeah, IMO he would get in the team.

Collins has been in the squad before Shackell lately though and was in the team for the games where Mancienne was ill.

More speculation about Berra today with Fulham interested. If Mancienne is not an option for a permanent move then this is a nideal signing in January.

Berra, John-Joe O'Toole from Watford (See Molineux Way) , Matty Fyatt plus a decent winger should place us very well for the run in.

Paper talk I know, but if Mick was looking to bring in Berra he may need to get in quick or turn his attentions elsewhere:

Chelsea and Manchester United have joined the race to sign Hearts captain Christophe Berra. Fulham are also keen. (Sunday Times)

Particularly with another financial situation at Hearts, and our position, Berra would be more inclined to join us. We would need Berra and Mancienne anyway were we to make it to the PL- Shackell, Ward and Collins are Championship players at best.

I don't think that's entirely fair on Shackell, he's not really had a chance, nor do I think he's going to get one if I'm honest. Ward and Collins, whilst reliable, aren't Prem material, true enough.

I get the idea our defence would be better off in the long term with the perm signing of Berra, over the continued loan of Mancienne.

What sort of player is Berra? The reason I ask is that having 2 very young, footballing CHs is somewhat testing on the nerves! I do wonder whether we would be better with Stearman coupled with a more experienced, solid CH and as a pair stand up better to the kick and rush of Championship football?

All I remember them saying about Berra when we were originally after him is that he had more of a physical presence than alot of defenders and was the blood and guts type that it was thought at the time would compliment Stearman. I don't know if that still holds water, though.

    From BBC Gossip...

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has slapped a £10m price-tag on captain Christophe Berra after transfer speculation linking the defender with several top clubs in England including Manchester Utd and Liverpool. (Daily Express)

According to the Hearts fans he is drastically overrated anyway. I've seen him once or twice when they've shown SPL matches on Setanta and I honestly didn't consider him to be THAT good, certainly not £10m worth.

Even if he turns out to be gash, I'm still impressed with MM & Co for spotting him before any of the so-called bigger clubs.

MM was also the one who saw potential in Wheater, even if he didn't get a game for us whilst here.

Didnt he get 45 mins v Hull when we lost 2-0? He was awful but looks a cracking player now.

A pedant would be inclined to say it was actually at Southampton ;)

Well if Berra is worth £10M then Mancienne is worth at least £12M!

Absolutely. Based on the Molineux Mix law of 'Let's make up ridiculous prices with no basis in reality whatsoever' I'd say you were spot on.

Hearts would do well to get £3m. Delusional.

Is it Hearts who have the left winger Driver??

Supposed to be very highly thought of? Just Breaking into the England U21 squad?

Watched the Hearts/Hibs game yesterday, must admit Driver did catch the eye, switching between left and right wing, looked tricky, but some of his final delivery was poor.Berra did not stand out ,but must have something about him for so many teams to have shown an interest.
