See twitter is in meltdown over the FA not taking retropective action over his "tackle" Am I the only one who thinks they were right? Looks like he just made a pass and the momentum carried his foot into Matic's stretching leg, the momentum also carrying his trailing leg? Would be interested to hear people's views!

You're on your own in this one. That was a potential leg breaker.

It was surely a pass though? haha There was no intent whatsoever imo.

The first one was more likely to face retrospective action imo.

Second was a terrible challenege but the first one look more deliberate and unnatural movement.

https://vine.co/v/OQqUZbMJ9ea His sole intention was to pass the ball, and things happen so quickly.. looks so much worse in slow motion when in reality he has almost zero time to think about it. I just feel it was the right decision personally.

Football is a contact sport, although makes you wonder at times. Injuries happen and accidents happen whilst on occasion deliberate acts take place.

From what I've seen it looks a bad tackle but not deliberate. I can understand the injured player being upset but his reaction deserved a sending off. Players can't go round dishing out their own form of retribution without suffering the consequences.

If Matic is let off the red it will send out the wrong message and any time a player in the future dishes out an action the likes of what Matic did they will just quote his case as an example.

As for Barnes, just looks as though his foot follows through but nothing deliberate or malicious.

His first one was also worthy of a yellow, I think he was just on one that game & I can't think of any natural movement where you come down on a players leg with your studs like that.

Only Barnes knows if he intentionally followed through like that, but regardless it was very dangerous

I can see where you are coming from GY Wolf, as it looks like he is just going for the ball.
However, it appears to me that when he makes contact he applies excessive force which IMO is unacceptable as it could of easily broken his Matic's leg. I don't think he had to manoeuvre his leg upon Matic the way he did - it was malicious. I think It looked like Barnes wanted to leave a mark on the Chelsea players the whole game as he also made a late challenge on Ivanovic that looked intentional.

Very true. The game itself brings people together by its very nature and sometimes, sadly, serious injuries do take place. Matic in this case was lucky as regards not being injured.

Not sure this thread would be running if Matic wasn't such a unit. Most players in the EPL would have suffered a potential career threatening injury .
    Think he's a lucky boy

I'm with you, the player coming in from the side caused the collision.

As terrible as the tackle was, Mou's whining has once Again, conveniently taken away focus from what was in fact, an overall very poor Chelsea performance. Yes, it was a horrible tackle and yes, the FA should've punished it accordingly, but it was still just a really bad tackle, that went unpunished. That happens every week up and Down the Leagues, yet for some reason, this incident is singled out as more disastrous than the rest. I Wonder why?

Whether it was intentional or not, the nature of the follow through suggests that he was not in control of the challenge, which is dangerous. Apparently Martin Atkinson saw the incident, therefore the FA will take no action. If that's the case, I find it staggering that a professional referee of his experience cannot see why the challenge was dangerous.

I kind of agree with the FA not re-Refereeing games if the Referee has seen an incident but I would ask the question what did he see and if he still stands by what he asserts I would want to know what the hell is going on and he should be dropped and not sent off to the Championship.
Once again the closed shop prevails and that clown Riley still thinks our Referees are the best .

I'm going to come across as a little snooty but your comment informs me that you've never played the game before. You can tell, even from TV, that Barnes was in a feisty mood (it happens) and decided he would drag his studs on opposing player's legs.

For that, I say $$$$ him. The fact that the FA won't take any actions speaks volumes of the FA and provides a nugget of insight on how they're still stuck in the 70s.

Bull crap. Show me these tackles that occurred up and down the league from last weekend that were potential career ending.

These tackles are few and far between and that's why we have a strong reaction when we see them.

The one at Worcester (see other thread) was none too clever but at least he got a yellow .

Yes it is a bit snooty. :p I don't think you can prove what mood he was in, either way his eyes were on the ball and if his aim was to catch Matic then it was very subtle indeed.

Dyche has gone down a fair bit in my estimate with this nonsense. I bet he'll write something different when he publishes his ghost written autobiog.

Barnes very deliberately wanted to $$$$ Ivanovic up, Barnes was way too late for the header and upon realizing this decided to kick his leg out to deliberately $$$$ Ivanovic up. It's happened to me on one occasion and the $$$$$ that did had his nose spread across his face. And his car got keyed.

Far be it from me to poke my nose in but doesn't that make you just as bad if not worse than the perpetrator?

Yes. $$$$ him, he tried to break my leg. He's getting a non career threatening punch to the face and a kick to the balls, and his car is getting messed with after. I could claim self defence but I'd be lying, I went out to hurt that mother$$$$er for what he did :D

Gotta disagree, think he has clearly looked at both sides of the coin whilst (obviously) defending his player, and the points he makes are valid.
