    Hi all,

David here with a blogcast this week

    Wolves News

Zubar has declared himself fit. This will be a massive defensive boost for the squad and will do us well going forward. We know what Zubar is capable of after that stunning goal against West Ham last season.

    $

Karl Henry is out for two-months. This will just cause more midfield problems for Mick as the midfield injuries just keep building up. The Captain will be missed.

    $

Danny Batth has gone out on loan to Sheffield United. A player who seems like he may become a first team regular in the future and looks like he has lots of potential. A sign of how much he has developed to be loaned out to a championship club.

Wolves had Mamadou Bagayoko from Nice join on a week’s trial. It seems like Mick was starting his striker search for January a bit early. But it seems that he has left now undecided.

    Blackpool

Well, what can I say? It seemed like it was groundhog day all over again, for the fourth time in a row. How long can we go on like this? Surely if we play well a result will follow?$$

An early conceded goal came and it was just the start we didn’t want. 3rd early goal in a row and a goal right before half time. It may well have been ground hog day. But in fairness Varney’s goal was good, and it had to be former Wolves loanee Marlon Harewood to score against us. Kevin Doyle finally broke his goal drought with a goal at the end but once again it was just that one goal that was needed to get a result.

One of the oddest decisions of the season had to be Jones starting instead of Mijilas. A player who has been one the best so far this season since he has come back, and Jones who hasn’t played recently takes his place? McCarthy has said that it is because Mijilas played mid-week for Serbia. But when he was brought on mid-way through the first- half it showed how much he was needed all along.

Once again we seemed to have a lot of chances and couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and dominating possession at times as well as both Mijilas and Ebanks hitting the woodwork!. With the amount of chances we’ve had lately is this just down to bad luck, or just not enough power to put the ball between the posts?

If results keep going their way whispers may start about McCarthy’s position I’m even surprised that there has been, as far as I’m aware, little or no rumours about Mick’s future. Mick called this match a ‘defining game’. The next few games may just define where McCarthy’s future lies if things do not go according to plan

All in all it was one of those matches you looked at the start of the season where you picked out a definite result. Even though Blackpool has played well so far this season, and credit to them, even I expected at least a draw. We said that the ‘big five’ games we had were tough but it seems the run we have at the moment, with games where we should be picking up points, will be even tougher. I’ll leave the last thoughts on this to you guys on your thoughts against Blackpool:

We also need a clean sheet. Forget the 5 points adrift I think, a good solid 3-0 win would do. COME ON WOLVES! We can do it - BilstonJay

We need a solid defence mate. Going forward we are great. We also need to stop conceding early, and scoring early instead. – BilstonJay

I think we are getting in dangerous territory and am beginning to fear the worst. Maybe a change of manager might help? – dinglesCave

there was royalty there as well today as well and we still couldn't perform– Laz7903

I don't think anyone has digested the crap that is our side in the last just over 20 minutes. Our very own Adam Thompson

Can't see anything but relegation. Mick is not good enough for this level. – Imprice68.

    Left-back

    $

    $

A position that has been debated throughout this season. Who should be at left back? This currently is being filled by our striker made left back stand in Stephen Ward. Who at first when picked was a surprising decision but seemed to take to the role well. But despite McCarthy sticking to his guns, people have questioned his performance as late. So…. Is it time for a replacement?

    $

    $

We can stick with Ward, he has pace and cemented his position for a while now. But there are others who may deserve a shot. Elokobi, the man who can grind a corner flag is a well-built defending machine who you wouldn’t want to step into a ring with. But at times his pace can be off with some of the fast wingers and his first time pass or placement of the ball isn’t the best.

    $

    $

But then there is then what seems to be the forgotten player at Wolves at the moment. Van-Damme. A utility player who it seems was brought so he can play in different positions. One of the best and most promising players at the start of the season. It seemed like we had found a real gem. He looks defensively strong and has pace, and he plays well going forward. So why isn’t he being played. Not just at left back but in any positions, even coming off from the bench. Could it be to do with these homesick rumours and a likely exit in January?

    $

    $

Personally I would play Van Damme who I believe could be very defensively solid, and slot into other roles in the game if needed.

We put this up on Twitter this week. Here’s what you guys thought:

Van-Damme maybe? Worth a chance? Defence not kept a clean sheet so far (which includes Ward and Elokobi)! – Mr Johndewolf (the real one??)

Van-Damme if he gets his head sorted. If not... Elokobi- D_oubleD

Although there’s only four, seems like a strong consensus.

    Sunderland

    $

    $

Well we said that these are going to be tough games and this is another one. Wolves beat Sunderland on the last day of the season 2-1 to send us out of into party mood. But Sunderland’s recent performances, especially beating Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, will make the game that bit more interesting.

    $

    $

It another must win, or at least a point. Even a point would ease our minds a bit. Formation wise is a bit of a tricky one. Playing 4-4-2 to start against Bolton didn’t prove to work and although we seem to play well with 4-5-1, the goals don’t seem to be pouring in? Do you risk starting as 4-3-3 with Ebanks, Fletcher and Doyle and bringing on Bent at some point, just to try and rally some goals in and cement a victory?

    $

    $

Who will be captain? Henry, Craddock and Berra are out it poses an interesting possibility. Who in the squad possesses that leadership which Wolves will need on Saturday? Doyle works hard every week, Hahnemann seems like a strong commanding figure and Mijilas has made the play going forward so much better since coming on, and adding a captaincy to that could make it better.

    $

    $

Sunderland is going to be tough, and if it needs to be said a win would do wonders. It may not get us out of the relegation zone but psychologically for the fans and especially for the players it would ease a lot of pressure. It would give the lads a massive boost and deserved praise for how they have been playing. Then hopefully that will start the ball rolling……
