If we had lost today we would have similar comments on here about our team

    Exactly.

We're 10 points clear of 3rd and some people still look for negatives.

Coppell confuses one fan with his substitutions, and Southampton tactically outmanouevred them, according to another. Strange, considering the gushing praise Coppell received after the game where we lost both wingers to injury. If only Tez Read was still with us, he could explain to morons such as me how his "chessmanlike" (sic) hero got it so wrong.

Anyway, back onto topic. I think we are exceedingly wary of the teams below us, and perhaps overly so given the way Blouse have been playing and some of the results Reading have suffered. But I don't think there's anything wrong in overrating your opposition. Better than than getting carried away.

With the points haul that we've got, we could be forgiven for feeling there should be daylight between us and the chasing pack, and worried on account of it.

I think the question reads better as "Are our rivals really any better than us."

    Answer, I think, is no.

Birmingham are riding their luck at the minute IMO, and Reading aren't really as good as the pundits and opposition managers are making them out to be. Everyone is expecting them to storm the league but until they sort out their disastrous away form they will always be a bit iffy.

I honestly fancy us to beat Reading at their place, I reckon their home form could suffer a sticky patch now.

They are starting to score goals though, which is worrying (Blues I mean).

They are also starting to concede them which is encouraging - and by all accounts they were fortunate against Swansea.

Reading are the best team bar us in this division, if they hang on to there star players january then you can be sure anyone who finnishes above them will win league.

Birmingham have the players but a bit like us a few years ago, they dont play as a team, think we will be ahead of them.

Sheff y all depends on beatie...he stays fit they will carrry on picking up points, although i still think we are better then them.

With are board/manager i think will do it as champs.

I think it was just one of those days. Last week they played Sheff Utd of the park and won, lets see how we get on.

I read a good comment from a Reading fan last night stating

"the difference between ourselves, Wolves and Birmingham is they can bring on players such as Keogh and Phillips where we have Shane Long".

If you do actually take a look at their squad compared to ours and Brums you can see his point. Especially if Hunt and possibly even Doyle leave in Jan.

Yep the Jan window will be crucial to Reading, as it is I still think they will win the league with us coming in 2nd - Brum are just sailing to close to the wind every week needing an old man to get them out of the $$$$ !

Their manager doesn't reckon them to be the force that pundits, fellow Championship managers and fans are tipping them to be. See my signature, I can link you to the full article if you like.

I didn't think too much of them at Molineux either (set pieces aside). I reckon it would have been a different game had we have had Iwelumo upfront with Kightly and Jarvis playing for the entire 90 minutes.

Can you see Stephen Hunt, James Harper et al staying in for the long term when the bids from Everton and co. come flying in in January? Despite signing a new deal, I reckon Doyle will have his head turned. The new deal simply means they can command more for him than they would have been before he signed it. Before anybody says it - I can't see our players leaving if we're in the same position come January.

This league looks like it is going to be a 4-horse race - I don't feel we are any better or worse than the other 3 - our advantage is the points lead we have built up. I think we all expected Blues and Reading to be the top 2 and Sheffield aren't a surprise.
I personally am surprised so many 'big' sides have done so poorly esp Charlton and Watford - which will undoutedly help us.
The rest of the Division is average and will all continue to beat one another - again which will help us.
I think injuries could still play a big part in which sides get the auto slots and it may be the strikers who continue to score through to May that will be the deciding factor.

I don't understand this - surely we have built up the points lead by being better than the other sides near the top? We're currently more than 0.5 points a game better than Reading, that's over 20 points over the course of a season.

Charlton and Watford are in massive trouble because they are financially screwed, no surprise to me. A lesson for anyone who ever uses the words "break the bank" and idiots like Gratters who don't think that we should be concerned about player wages.

We have not played Blues or Sheffield and got hammered by Reading. I stand by my remark that over the course of the season there will not be much between the sides.

Reading weren't three goals better than us and losing to the likes of Southampton and Palace shows that they aren't all that special.

You can't make a serious argument for us not being better than teams who are 10 and 12 points behind us after nearly half a season just because we haven't played them yet.

I agree with Deutch, I've always said that once the table settles down it does not lie. I am loathe to say it now because it is Wolves, and I am too subjective / nervous of predicting. If any other team were in Wolves position, with the squad they have, I would say the best team is on top!

I`ve said from day one i didnt think blues would run away with the league like a lot of people thought. The championship is a massive shock to the system of players from newly relegated teams. I could also never really see how reading have that strong a team. I know they tanked us but if we didnt pick up all those injuries it would have been a different game. Doyle is a very good player, but the rest of them are no better than our team imo, not many reading players other then doyle i would like at wolves really.

Make now mistake Reading played us off the park that night - even before we lost both the wingers. However it is consistency that wins the league and dropping points at home to the likes of Southampton could cost them dearly.

Regarding Blues they still have an excelleng points total & we shouldn't dismiss them too readily. I think their season will go one of two different ways - either they are a good team how are playing within themselves and are managing to still pick up the wins & will continue to improve or they are an average team and their luck will run out and they will tail off.

I guess at the end of the season we will have the answer on all 3 teams, although I think it is fair to say I dont see a threat coming from anywhere else at the moment

Blues looked a poor side against Coventry, completely lacking in ideas. I don't think we have much to fear from them, unless they break the bank in the Jan window. More to fear from Reading, in my book. They are inconsistent, but if they hit form they could sweep all before them (a bit like us!). Sheff Utd won't have the staying power, although I think a draw against them tomorrow would be an excellent result for us.

    With their board? :D

Their board is more likely to sell McFadden, Larsson et al rather than bring any players in!

Birmingham don't bother me, they'll capitulate after January when their board has flogged off their crown jewels. Just you watch. McFadden's agent is Willie McKay so he'll soon be on his bike.

  30. Home form is important, and except the Reading game, we've won them all. Add to that a very strong away record, that's why we're doing so well.

Blues and reading have both slipped up to teams they should beat at home (Blues v Blackpool/Cov, Reading v Southampton/QPR). That's the difference - if we continue to do that, we'll be fine.

Though having said that, I wouldn't say no to a couple of victories over the next 6 days....

  32. we deserve to be there without doubt but I would easily settle for a point tonight right now, not being negative but a nice well earned point tonight and a bloody good crack at the blouse on Sat.
