OK I've been pondering this for a while with the Stern John pictures rearing their head whenever a black player is mentioned and now the neandethals Thread about the Sol Campbell incident. So just to clear things up is anyone posting on here of West Indies/African origin?

I like to think I'm not a racist although I'm not perfect either but I was just wondering. Bearing in mind we have posters on here who reside in Canada, America, Turkey and other countries around the globe It's also not very easy to determine anyone's nationality added into the fact that not many (if any) use their real names when they post.

Personally speaking I'm a Yorkshire Caucasian (sp) with Welsh ancestry on my Mother's side.

It's a Psuedonym, and I believe quite a few people on here know my real name.

Stick to answering the actual question please.

Perhaps there are good reasons for that? The fact is that we are all simply usernames who can choose to give as much or as little personal detail as we choose.

Mutchy that's not what I was aiming the Thread at. What I was aiming the Thread at is just how many (if any) posters are of West Indies/African origin. I'm not really interested in finding out their real names just that I wouldn't want to intentionally offend anyone in any way, shape or form.

Just interested but if you think it's an irrelevant Thread then delete it by all means.

Maybe an anonymous poll would be the best way to generate the answer...

Why would/should it matter? If someone came on here and stated that they were born or were descended from a Jamaican would it make any difference to anyone whatsoever? I'm just trying to judge whether the constant Stern John references/pictures cropping up are we offending any of our fewllow posters? I cringe sometimes when I see the picture so what would a Jamaica national be thinking.

I know it's meant as a joke but is it really when you think about it?

It's a joke aimed at the stupidity of a well known (former?) poster on here, nothing more, nothing less.

    In Del Wop style: This.

I think its very obvious it is a joke, taking the Michael out of a former prominent poster, not anything seriously to do with race.

I wouldn't start feeling offended on people's behalf Dewsbury, it's a slippery slope.

How slippy is the slope taken by the apologist or those that remain silent?

I would hope anyone who posts here (or whom we come across in any walk of life) would be judged on their individual merits and not some stereotypical generalisation. Thus it should not matter what a posters background. In fact it may be counter productive as people will be less likely to take issue with a poster who is black, asian, martian or whatever for fear of being labelled racist. This would be a particular problem with those posters who have developed a bit of an antagonism to each other, which would be a shame as I feel it is part of the character of this board.
If its of any interest I am middle aged, balding (no follicicism(?) please) with very deep black country roots on my moms side (her maiden name is unique to the area). My dad has relatives from Lincs so there may be some Viking in me somewhere though - be warned.

Thought it was interesting that Dewsbury was so careful about asking who was 'from west indies origin' and suchlike, when really he's just asking, in a really roundabout and diplomatic way, which posters on here are black. It's PC gone mad innit.

The President of the USA will soon be a black man. This is a pretty pointless excercise like who are blonde, who are left handed, who are rich, who are poor? What is going to happen to this public information, shall we target the Jamaican black guy or the person who has mental health problems.

We are here because we are Wolves supporters, we are wishing the team well and we can have a rant or praise the team, manager, club whenever the mood takes us, anything else no matter how innocent can cause issue.

Dewsbury, think you've got the wrong end regarding the Stern John post.. it's just a mickey take of mistaken identity by a know it all poster who was proven VERY wrong and then went of in an almighty sulk.

I personally find the Stern John references quite funny and never once linked them with any racist undertones.

I'd like to think I'm not naive, however, maybe I am!

Polack - Humans are remarkably closely related animals in a genetic sense and yes we probably did originate in Africa (although may have left there a number of times).
As anyone who knows even a little history is aware the English are a very mixed group racially - a rich mix of pre Celtic conquest neolithics with Anglo Saxon, Irish, Scots, Welsh, Norse, French Hugenots, Flemish etc. Actually the above goes for most off Britain with just regional variations as to percentages.
It is also obvious that in another 100 years time you can add West Indian, African and South Asian to the above.

    Will he?

I was under the impression that his mother and his grandparents who raised him were white.

Much the same goes for the 1st 'black' F1 World champion whose mother was also white I believe.

Why the colour of a persons skin should make any difference in their standing or significance in the world today should be of little importance surely?

Sorry Barack Obama will be the first White President whose father and paternal grandparents were black? There is no significance that Barack is white.

No I haven't got hold of any end of a stick. I know exactly what the Stern John references are all about but, in recognition of the Sol Campbell issue raging about isn't that just pandering to the "all black men look the same" stereotype? If that's the case then surely that's just as "racist" as calling Sol a black gay whatever it was that was considered so "wrong" in the first place.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I couldn't give a stuff what nationality, gender or sexual persuasion anyone is we're all Wolves fans but it was something I thought was worth asking. I was, apparently, wrong but I'll live with it.

No, what was happening in those posts was the exact opposite.

I don't think this thread is going anywhere, so I'm going to close it, but if anyone does have concerns about posts in the way Dewsbury is concerned about there is always the option to report a post.
