SOUTHAMPTON midfielder Andrew Surman is wanted by Championship rivals Reading and Wolves. Royals will offer £1.5million plus defender Alex Pearce. Wolves are set to bid £2m. (sun)

need to speak to his agent and not the player...not sure how much he will have a say in it...im sure the money will have an affect.

If both those offers go in...i think he will go to Reading IMO. Closer to where he is already.

Although he will know a few of our players from U21 duty?

I have been hoping that we get this lad in for a while now. Buy him and play him next to Watson. Jarvis Surman Watson Kightley, let the opposition try and figure that out by the end of the season. :p

Get digging and get putting the word in how we are a bigger and better club than Reading! This lad is a top player!

Had 5 Live on during the Saints v Man Ure game but I wasn't really listening properly. At one point during the commentary I thought heard something about one of the Southampton players going to Molineux via Everton? I only paid attention once I heard the word Molineux, so I've no idea who they were talking about or whether it was mentioned that it was someone being signed by Everton and then loaned to us? In fact the whole thing was rather hazy, BUT we were definitley mentioned in connection with a Southampton player! Obviously this is about as sketchy as the govt reports linking Iraq to WMD, but I definitely heard some discussion with Molineux mentioned!! :D

what type of a player is he? Just says midfielder on wikipedia? Defensive? Attacking? Any good?

Surman? Left back, left midfield or central midfield. I wouldn't say he's dynamic, but still influential, and got bags of potential.

He's a very good passer of the ball and has an excellent left foot and as Del says is also very versatile. He would enhance our squad for sure but I would imagine a few clubs would be in for him and not sure he would be an automatic 1st-teamer for us, but nice that we are linked however tenuous it is at this stage.

Reading would certainly be more convenient for him geographically. He is a local boy and certainly not agitating for a move. Would be ideal for us but others like Stoke have shown an interest in the past while the likes of Fulham could be in for him also. His best position imv is central midfield as his best characteristic is his passing range, although can do a job on the left wing and as a full back. Its tough to get these kinds of players in but I suppose we look as attractive as anyone at the moment provided we pay a (in)decent wage.

He's their most saleable asset along with Lallana, if they need the cash those two will go.

Thats what joe cole said about west ham, and i quote "no we wont get relegated, i will still be a west ham player next season" and Alan smith "i love leeds and will stay with them, blah blah blah" but as soon as their beloved club hits a rough patch and they face the possibility of playing in the league below the following season they are the 1st to jump ship!!!

He is coming to Wolves so he may aswell just admit it and get on with it ;)

I so hope your right, Everytime I see him he impresses me.

I also saw another Player in the televised game, he really inpressed me I think it was Weston for Gillingham, central midfield neat tidy, good passer, always had time on the ball.
    Made simple passes and moved.

    Well worth a few looks

I liked the look of him, very comfortable on the ball and looked very athletic, the kind of player we could maybe have on trial for a week to have a closer look?

As for Surman, get him in

Just read it, Miller I am not sure about, I think he may struggle with the raise in level, certainly Weston should be looked at for a few matches.

It's difficult to sign someone based purely on performances against higher clubs.

It's better to see how they stand out week on week

    Are you sure?

We have definately taken a more fiscal approach in recent years but we aren't tight. It's not like we'd offer 6k and they'd over 20k ala Blues.

There would, I suspect, only be a relatively small amount between offers which we would surely match if we really wanted the player.

Surman's too one paced to ever be successful above this level. Not that he's really even managed that as yet.

I'd take him at £500k, no more.

Perhaps you'd like to give us your opinion on Andrew Surman, based on what you've seen of him, what his key strengths are, where the areas of weakness in his game are, and so on?

No, thought not. Stick with the exclamation marks and one word replies, always a winner.

It could have been worse, Deutsch. He'd normally pipe up with "Ha, but we all know what you said about Mancienne" or "And to think you used to represent us!". The annoying scrote.

ANDREW SURMAN reckons he is happy to stay at Southampton — despite rumours linking him with a move from St Mary’s.
Reading and Wolves are the latest Championship clubs to be linked with the England Under-21 midfielder, while Saints need to sell players to ease their money worries.
But Surman, 22, said: “I still expect to be here at the end of January.
“You hear a lot of rumours but I’ve no plans to leave and, as far as I’m concerned, I’m a Southampton player and hopefully that will continue.†(sun)

Hmm £500,000 what does that buy you these days - Darren Ward? Its true he is not known for his pace although he is hardly slow! His best quality is his passing range and he has a good shot. Talk of £2m is over the top imv but for say £1.25m-£1.5m he would be a very useful addition to the squad and at 22 has plenty of time for his game to mature. His ability to play effectively in three positions is also more than handy.

The point is that he is about the best kind of quality we can expect to get in at the moment so we have to be realistic. His wages wouldn't be a problem and he fulfils the current club criteria of being young and talented with plenty of league ganmes under his belt already. The fact that there has been plenty of interest in him and that he has many U.21 caps to his name indicates that your perception is not shared by many others.
