Forget for a moment the nit-picking analysis of who played well and who didn't, sit back and look at the bigger picture... As I watched our splendid young team yesterday evening, what I felt was an overwhelming sense of belonging coursing through my veins -- a sense of belonging to the top tier of English football that I haven't felt at Molineux for 40 years. I never felt that in our total of 4 previous PL seasons -- virtually every match it felt like we were valiant 3rd division underdogs playing one of the big boys in an FA Cup tie. We would occasionally win and cause an upset, but were always going to be knocked out of the competition early on... and so it proved. But yesterday felt quite different: a battle between equals. I am absolutely loving it.

I loved seeing the streets around the ground rammed with fans - really brought back the old days.
Met a few, very complimentary, Everton fans after the game too.

Shame some of the local car parks are taking the opportunity to rip people off with £8 parking fees (up from £5 last season) they need a good kick in the balls.

    I hope everyone boycotts them.

Mr Tikka has gone up too. Give them a miss in the future.

But it was great yesterday. Loved it & cant wait for City to come to town... Pep can’t blame the ball this time.

I understand the OP sentiments and the club can only compete in the circus the game has become in so many areas. The club had to get in the big top or face the reality that it would never be seen in that light again. It can only be a good thing for the City and region that the improved exposure might bring.

Watching another two top class finishes by players in a Wolves shirt takes us all back to days when we last had players who could turn a game on its head and Nuno again showed why he is still the best signing of the past two years with his substitutions as an example.

Its doesn't have the same feel to it for me though. The hideous dazzling pitch side corporate flogging a constant reminder of why it probably never will be. One can't completely lose the feel of a lifetime for the club and game of course but its bitter sweet for me.

At least (for now perhaps) we are still at Molineux and while that remains the case there's still continuity and soul of sorts.

I think we are making good steps forward. The OP is right that in the last two premier league forays each game was a cup final. This time feels different but its early days. I will settle once we have played ten games. As regards the soul of football then its no dufferent to life in general. We have crazy levels of surveillance especially whilst driving, everything from festivals to football is packaged and sold. People have less patience and are more narcissistic but you either join in or bail out. Personal choice. I prefer the 70s atmosphere and gritty reality but i love wolves and so still go every week. And im not stopping now

Yes, I share your dislike of the non-stop bombardment with advertising and the general 'packaging' of football, but there's not a lot we as fans can do about that. What I loved yesterday is that Wolves played Everton without there being any sense of plucky inferiority, which is the feeling I always had in previous PL campaigns. For my money, if I am to be critical, we played too conservatively, especially after Everton went down to 10, but you can put a lot of that down to Nuno not wanting to risk a home loss on Day One. Once we really find our feet (give it 5 or 6 games), I think we will more than match the teams in last season's bottom half and I will back us to beat one or two of the big boys too (in particular Liverpool and the mouthy Klopp would be nice). It's all a question of confidence, which will come, and ultimately, if you have the skill (which we have) it's all in the mind (as it is in all sports).

Love it @Big Saft Kid! I think it's so important that the players belief in that too, we're not just a Championship team what has been promoted for a season, this has to be where we want to stay. The players are good enough to play at this level.

I generally agree with the OP we do play good football and are worthy of our place in the Premiership this season. Just lacking a little confidence I feel but this should improve as the players begin to realise we are a competitive side.

I reckon the club is doing a great job of mixing the new with the tradition.

Watching the fireworks and the wall of noise and flags at the start of the game gave me goosebumps.

I haven't recovered yet. My head's still buzzin' with the excitement of it all as I sit here with my coffee fortified by amaretto.

Well said that man. We belong here and the team will settle down and improve and results will come if we all keep calm and learn

Well said BSK! I've read none of the game/player threads on here because it would appear that there has been some ridiculous negativity. I thought overall we did well yesterday and it really was a fantastic occasion. First game back and for me the most important thing from yesterday was that we are here to compete on level terms. We will go into every game with a chance of victory and as our players get accustomed to this league we will certainly win more than we lose. Top 10 for sure.

Nuno is so focused he'll be learning match by match as well as the players
We'll improve quickly then watch out the rest of the league wolves ain't here to make up the numbers

The great years of the 50's were before my time, I wasn't really old enough to appreciate the very good years of the 70's, obviously there have been great days since but yesterday was the first time I felt we were back in the really big time to compete with the best. We've had some false dawns but I can feel the full warmth of the Sun on my face now (or maybe it's just the pre-match flamethowers!

Apart from the game what I remember as a 9 year old in the 56/57 season is after the game literally being carried in the swell of the crowd up Molineux Street on our way back to the station. I just wanted that forever.

Spot on. And I also think when it really sinks in with the players, the confidence will flow
