Been on the cards for ages, he failed to get them Champions League qualification and for a club like Chelsea that's just not acceptable.
Why now when the season starts in less than a month and not last May?
I always really really liked Conte and rate him very highly, his win percentage is only bettered by Pep i think. Great manager that will win things anywhere he goes. Only have to look at the amount of teams playing 3 at the back etc to see the impact he has had in a relatively short space of time. Though he had no european football to deal with in his first season his team were the best team in the league by quite some distance, i always really liked the way he's conducted himself.
This has been coming for a year in my eyes, things obviously weren't right at the club, which was a shame for him and the fans they should of backed him 100% instead of quality players to give them a chance in Europe he got given the likes of Drinkwater and Barkley.
I look forward to see his next move, i also look forward to seeing how Sarri gets on after seeing his Napoli side play some great football and run Juve close. Will be a tough ask as the season is starting very soon to get his ideas across and whether he's able to get the players in he wants.
I'm not sure why Chelsea have let this run for so long though, Conte was never going to walk away from his contract and they were always going to have to pay Napoli compensation from what i understand.
Seems all is not well behind-the-scenes at Chelsea. Was an open secret that Conte would be sacked but I think they've had to wait so long because Sarri has always been their first choice but he'd been placed on 'gardening leave' (rather than sacked) by Napoli, meaning he was still being employed and paid by the club (a common occurance in Italy). Took them a while to sort out the details, hence why they kept Conte on in the meantime.
Will be interesting to see if they give Sarri time to impose 'Sarri-ball' on Chelsea; Napoli were a joy to watch when in full flow.
Sky headline - "Conte leaves Chelsea LIVE". I guess that's preferable to the alternative!!
Surprised it took so long, that one's been rumbling on for months
Shame - only got circa £9m (?) as consolation and another job in about 2 weeks
Didn't see that coming at all.
Classy guy. Chelsea not so much.
That might be a cheaper alternative for the owner than sacking managers in the future!
Could be an interesting season at Chelsea. Abramovich's problems getting his permit to stay renewed seem to have royally ****ed him off, and the situation will not have been improved by the death of a UK citizen caused by the activities of his mate Putin's hit men. Now this strangely ill-timed move. Makes you wonder what is happening behind the scenes.
Always seemed to come across as a good bloke. Loved the way he would not take any of Mourinho's verbal garbage as well.
If Inter Milan start off the season slowly I do not think you would get much of a bet on him being the next Coach there.
Has been on the cards for some time but to leave it this late seems daft
He didn't have control over transfers last season, some of the players they let go and brought in was crap.
Don't put it past Abramovich…with his background!
All part of the merry go round. Park your car for a while, tell the missus you'll pop in to see her occasionally for the odd holiday and watch the bank balance grow with a boost of a few million shortly.
£90m for a 33yo striker paid up the road.
Meanwhile Trump turns up costing millions of pounds to us tax payers, the lady mp on "Question Time" (?) assuring us it comes from"special funds"(?), maybe the same one they managed to find to pay the Irish to keep them in power.
My local hospital reckon they can't fund a children's unit meaning a 40+ miles trip to get treatment.while another can't afford to keep their local a&e open.
Strange old world.
