Confirmation of Iker Casillas' continuity at FC Porto may, he knows THE BALL, anticipate José Sá's exit (even if only tentatively). The Portuguese keeper, who came to win Casillas for 21 games, is being coveted by Wolverhampton and seems to be looking forward to the move to the club led by Nuno Espírito Santo, who recently celebrated his rise to the Premier League.

At 25 years old, José Sá wants to play regularly and, at FC Porto, that desire may be more difficult to achieve, now that Iker has agreed to extend the tie. Moreover, the goalkeeper hired the Marítimo in January 2016, and with a contract for two more seasons, finished the 2017/2018 campaign as a minor figure, even losing a seat in the bank to the Brazilian Vaná.

ABOLA.PT - FC Porto - José Sá pode sair

Nobody wants to trawl endless pages of ******** and waffle with the odd rumour chucked in.
These player specific posts are much better.

For all the half rumours yes, but this is one of potential substance. As already said, nobody wants to sift through that thread. We’ll be linked with dozens in this window and most of them will come from poor sources like The Sun, Mirror, HITC etc. that belong in there.

I think Rui, but I’m not sure we can afford to pay £30m for a keeper when we have bigger priorities for that kind of money with a striker, centre mid and centre back needed as more immediate priorities.

I’d expect Sa to cost us probably half that, and Rui Barbosa who knows him from Porto (and Nuno) will have another project like Oblak/Ederson so his value will hopefully increase with time if he joins us.

What makes it of potential substance? I don't think portuguese papers are that much more accurate that ours, this is just the latest in a massive long list of players linked to us

He seems to lack experience and GK is such a crucial position in the PL as they get placed under so much scrutiny and pressure. I disagree with the logic that we shouldn’t spend big on a GK, along with the centre forward position I see it as our most critical summer signing. Patricio has an abundance of experience and is still a good age, i’d go all out for Patricio. Sa seems like he would represent a risk.

The article literally says he’s looking forward to joining us, for me that sounds quite legitimate but time will tell. How often have we been linked to a player by Portuguese media and nothing has materialised from it? At least when it’s as clear as this article is.

Sa was who I mentioned last summer. Could be a world class keeper but will make mistakes.
Wolves fans don't seem to give keepers a chance so im not sure it is too wise, Emi Martinez prime example

Rui Patrício is the better 'keeper but José Sá has an amazing beard. No contest.

All I know about Sa is he had a stinker against Liverpool, I'd much rather Patricio

I wouldn't agree with that, we give keepers too much praise and chances over the years but we haven't been blessed with great keepers for a while:
Matt was solid, England prospect to me.
Wayne was good but had the unexpected mistake in him.
    Marcus was wild and flappy
Carl was decent but too long as no.2
John is a solid Championship keeper and would be ok for a lower to mid table Prem team.
Not counting the no.2's and Lonergan lol

It's about time we had a top quality keeper, Sa is very good but Patricio is even better

GK is a vital position, if we could i would pay double and get Rui, you get quality and experience. Less of a risk.
I have only seen Sa once against Liverpool and he was dreadful.
He is only 26 which in GK terms not really at his peak and could improve, Nuno knows what he wants from a GK and if this guy fits the profile then its good enough for me.

Ha no it doesn't, it has no quotes, it doesn't even claim sources it's just a basic generic link. We've been linked to absolutely loads of portuguese players in the last 2 years that were never happening

I didn’t say it was a quote did I. Which Portuguese players have we been linked to that didn’t materialise? Goncalves and Gil Dias I know didn’t happen, but I don’t think they make them up on the spot like most of the English media does. They always seem to have some substance even if they don’t actually materialise.

If he is better than what we have then fine. I would rather we spent £30m or whatever on a striker or midfielder than on a goalkeeper. Nuno knows about goalies and would trust his judgement.

You said "the article literally says hes looking forward to joining us"

Honestly it happens all the time, you only need a quick google search to see it, heres a link to the Birmingham Mail referencing a backpage from the same paper you're lauding saying we'd "practically concluded" a deal for Pele from Benfica Wolves linked with €10m Portuguese midfielder with a great name

O Jogo reported supposed links to Alex Telles in January

Record apparently linked us to Bruno Gaspar

Here's another linking us to Renato Sanches Benfica - Renato Sanches pediu para voltar mas é sonho difícil de concretizar

Seemingly you'll happily believe a rumour has substance if its in a foreign paper but not if it's in a uk one when the truth is they're all doing the same game, casually linking us to anyone and everyone if it suits, even more so for portuguese players who may be trying to get moves elsewhere or new contracts at the request of agents knowing Wolves are an easy link. Clear example is Talisca, we were never going to sign him 2 years ago, it was absolute nonsense but everyone believed it because a portuguese paper printed it, same with Luisao, same with Andre Silva in January

@SakosRightFoot how can you prove these rumours had no substance? We’re going to try for a lot of players and many will turn us down for different reasons, doesn’t necessarily mean the source was wrong in the first place.

I certainly place more trust in Record/OJogo/Abola than some of the tabloids in the UK that recycle the same rumours year on year. Perhaps one of the Portuguese posters on here can tell us which is more reputable?

That's the point isn't it, you can't prove either way which is why they get away with it, but if you want further evidence here's another from Record in November that we had beaten Arsenal to Joao Carvalho Arsenal 'set to miss out to Wolves for Benfica star'

In fact after a quick search online and of my memory heres a list of all the portuguese or portugal linked players rumoured to have been joining us in the last 18 months, all the links were featured in portuguese papers

    Victor Lindelof
    Renato Sanches
    Bruno Gaspar
    Andre Silva
    Rui Patricio
    Pele
    Alex Telles
    Jose Sa
    Diogo Goncalves
    Joao Carvalho
    Rafa Silva
    Talisca
    Luisao
    Vincent Aboubakar
    Tiquinho

The point is you shouldn't give any more credence to a report in a foreign paper than you would one here. Especially when there are no quotes from any party involved

I agree. Strengthening the spine is key. Patrício, Lindelof, Wilshere and Silva would be a fine start.
