1. They're quite good
Reasons to not support Portugal in the WC:
Signing the whole squad will be a hell of a lot cheaper
Don't lose your time mate. Our defensive line is crap. Our manager is a dinossaur. A lot of players he likes are out of shape. We will not win a single game on the group stage. Support England. Better squad, at least QF's potential. Don't say I didn't warned you.
Ideally the world cup gets abandoned for some reason so that Neves can have a proper and restful summer holiday and be back on time for pre-season.
Second choice would be that Portugal don't make it past the group stage, to minimise injury risk and the strain on him. A pity though as normally I wish them well.
It’s all about Reason 4.
If they sack their manager after being knocked out group stages to a Saiss header. Do you think they would consider Nuno as a replacement?
Those ladies are clearly from a very poor area of Portugal as they've had to share one football top between them.
None. Most of us our English why the **** would your support another country. Unpatriotic ****ers!
Just out of interest, what were your thoughts going into the euros?
5. to aggravate the morons who can't see a joke when it's staring them in the face.
Joking aside, I'll be in Lisbon on a lads holiday for six days in late June (we catch the second and third England group games while out there). I'm looking forward to wearing my Neves Wolves shirt on the day Portugal play that week!
If Neves plays for Portugal in a game it will be much more important to me than any England game - Forever Wolves
Thank god Boon2. Last time I try to lighten the mood.
(BTW I was at Germany 06, South Africa 10 and Ukraine 12. So hardly an unpatriotic ******).
6. Lovely custard tarts. That bit of caramel on the top really is a difference maker.
This kind of worries me. If Portugal are that bad at the moment how likely is it that Nuno might be on their radar as a potential successor to Santos?
7. England will be out before the knockout rounds so may be handy to follow a second nation for a laugh
Oh god, now I’ve started a pant-wetter thread
Shoot me now
I thought you looked terrible in the euros and ended up winning it. I'd say when you have Ronaldo you always have a chance but for me, I think you look more balanced without him.
well done to the people who love their country.
On the other hand why do people watch football and specifically the world cup? football and it's Greatest moments.
A vast majority of those moments of which do not include England.
I'd also add there's a vast majority of English people who don't have the affinity with England as they do with their own club.
They're no less patriotic as the next person, they just see a national side that lacks any real passion.
The England national team is a passionless, directionless old boys' club. I was hoping that Big Sam might put some drive back into the team, but after that scandal he had to go. Sadly, the FA reverted to type and promoted Southgate, who I can only imagine has kissed a lot of **** to get where he is.
I'll watch the World Cup, but not with any particular affinity to England. The FA has a lot to do to win me back, and others too.
I watch the world cup to see football and great moments from players and countries around the world, that doesn't make me want to throw on another countries shirt and support them. I know England have been carp and some of the football is passionless but just because wolves has a sprinkling of Portuguese players doesn't mean I want to start drinking port and chucking Bacalhau down my neck. I love the World Cup and Euros seeing the different cultures and fans come together to celebrate footie.
Perhaps I shouldn't have been so negative,@Scott in the Sand had 2 valid points (3+4) and I know he posted just for a laugh. I'm obviously going to be interested to see how Neves gets on (if he does get selected and plays) as well as seeing any players we are linked with or who we have signed when it all KO's.
Good to hear that our Navy can still be relied upon should the day ever come again when "England expects".
I'm actually more confident about this World Cup for some reason. The last god knows how many world cup build ups have been dominated by
the media focusing on Rooney and before that Beckham so this time it seems a little bit less of a circus than normal.
Other than that I wish Neves and Saiss all the best and it will be great to see Wolves players in action.
OK call me unpatriotic ,but I'm supporting Portugal!
give it a couple of weeks and I guarantee will start bulling them up again.
There's a lot of focus on that wedding atm, and maybe on a football level Liverpool in the CL, but as it gets closer you can guess what theyll be like...
I don't think England or indeed the UK is a valid Country anymore, and hasn't been for a very long time, the generation who refused the popular culture revolution of the 60's didn't save the Nation, they killed it. I doubt I'll bother with the World cup but I will be hoping Portugal win. My Sister in Law is Portuguese anyway.
I'll support England and want them to do well, definitely. But really I can see myself watching Senegal v Iceland or something, and enjoying it just as much as the England games! And of course I want the Wolves boys to do well!
Strange, very strange, certain players yes, such as Neves but are you really serious that you’ll support another country? Wow.
Anyway, my FAN Id turned up today C’mon England
Enjoy pal! Stay safe and have a great time, enjoy exploring Russia as much as your allowed! A very interesting country.
I’ll be honest I’m only going over for the first match against Tunisia in Volgograd.
Did Moscow in ‘08 which was an amazing city to visit.
I don't like Fernando Santos the coach, but actually I thought at the time his choices were more rational and fair, also the players he called were in better shape than the current ones. But didn't liked his lineups on the group stage. Also our group stage now is a different level, first match vs Spain, totally different now.
Regarding the other poster who mentioned Nuno, no reason to worry, if you look at the different National Teams normally when the Federations choose someone they are normally out of job or at the end of their carrers, 0 chances of Nuno being mentioned, even because I think Santos will stay untill 2020 if we don't get out of the group stages.
Unless we suffer a heavy defeat with Spain, followed by 2 more defeats vs Morocco and Iran.
This. As thick as planks.
Volgograd, never been but plenty of history in that city. Should be a very interesting trip!
Portugal will comfortably get out of that group IMO. Even having Spain as a first game probably isn’t as bad as teams are usually happy enough to avoid defeat in that one, plus regardless of being 1st or 2nd, group A is poor.
Yep, formally Stalingrad which should be awesome for a WW2 nerd like me!
I am in Vilamoura from 18th to 27th June, expecting a good atmosphere by the marina!
I support Portugal anyway, as a Scotland fan who hasn't seen the team in the finals since 1990 and 1996. They often start slowly and gradually gel and then become a formidable unit by the knockout stages, as do other top teams.
