I’d imagine it’s to try and scare us into offering some compensation. Agreeing a settlement would be best for all parties though IMO.

Can’t take the Bruno out of Sporting it seems. I hope we take them to court and shut their scummy club down.

What right do they have to specify the punishment? Is it a kangaroo court or something.

Disagree. Threatening our club to the point of actually submitting an official complaint is a ****ing cowardly tactic and I hope it comes back to bite them. Hard.

Its a very unsporting way of getting us to pay as much as possible, or risk FIFA actually accepting that load of BS

I doubt we would have signed him if there was any chance of a transfer ban so I agree that it is just a threat and cowardly.

Yes, they're doing this to scare other clubs from signing their free agents, and that's what ****es me off. They're trying to use us as a scare tactic because their club is so ****ty that all of their players wanted to leave.

Beginning to develop a sincere dislike for spouting Lisbon hope this club goes to the dogs. It seems they are seeking revenge on us for the action of their own so called 'Ultra' fans.

It’s a very blunt bargaining tool to ensure they get what they agreed in the first place. They actually cannot make it stick as Patrício resigned siting intimidation etc and therefore made himself a free agent. Consequently Sporting’s case is against Patrício rather than Wolves unless they could prove that Wolves encouraged him to resign which I very much doubt they can. I would also suggest that Sporting May be in breach of European Law as I am not sure you can intimidate, harass and fail to keep your employees safe and prevent them from leaving.

What a slap in the face for Rui more than anything else. Serves them magnificently for over a decade and they now demand that he is banned from playing for 6 months.

They can't tell the authorities what any penalty should be though they can set the compensation figure they are asking for at any ridiculous value they want, (which they have done). In any case we could quite reasonably argue we had good reason to believe he was a free agent so there would be no chance of punitive punishment. But there is a very good chance they wouldn't win the case against him rescinding his contract and would end up with nothing. It is posturing but of the worst sort of hysterical posturing.

I used to quite like them and have some dominoes which feature six of their past players (would be great if Wolves did that). However, they've revealed themselves to be a right basket case.

So let me get this right'...... Sporting submit a document to FIFA to arbitrate in the matter, but before FIFA have had a chance to investigate, Sporting have leaked the confidential document to the gutter press - stipulating potential penalties for both player & new club alike???
I hope Fosun's legal team wipe the floor with them.

Not worth getting worked up over. As I said on another thread, this is theatre. It’s not about Wolves or Rui Patricio. It’s about the other Sporting players, and clubs that are circling the injured animal.

All of this is about deterring further transfers and protecting their assets by making a public show of going after Wolves.

Once they’re confident the problems have passed, we’ll see a quiet news story about Wolves and Sporting agreeing a fee. It’ll be the same, or slightly lower, than the fee they agreed in the first place.

If they were prepared to accept our offer of €18M how can they now say he had a buy out clause of €45M with €9M in wages add ons?

I'd like to hear the opinion of a sports lawyer or someone qualified in these matters. Hopefully someone in the media will be asking one eventually.

Did you honestly think they'd just let us take a key player for free?

This is the first step, they have to do it, they have to ask for more than he's worth and they have to make big statements to help their case.

Going to drag on, so will be a bit boring but would expect a 'undisclosed fee' to be agreed somewhere down the line.

No way this happens. They are posturing. But I do think this case raises questions and may end up clarifying the rules as to what constitutes a fair situation for a player to resign from his contract? There could be disgruntled, and expensive, players across the world looking on which is why I wonder if there may yet be a fairly high transfer fee to pay as part of Sporting's case. But certainly not what they are quoting. And certainly not anything Wolves weren't prepared to pay given the calibre of goalkeeper we are getting.

If Wolves know they've done nothing wrong, I highly doubt they will be willing to play nice and compensate Sporting anymore.
