    http://oscillatingwildly.net/somebody-is-wrong-on-the-internet/

Another brilliant article from OscillatingWildly (the best Wolves blog on the net, make sure to follow on twitter if you don't already) debunking some common myths surrounding Wolves, FFP, Fosun, Jorge Mendes & Jordan Graham.

Every Wolves fan should read this IMO.

Excellent read, I do read his stuff religiously when it's posted on Twitter because it's always sensible, factual stuff. This one is easily the best he's done so far but will still have people who choose to believe the opposite.

I like deutsch. I think he's a very good writer. He doesn't care much for matt doherty mind judging by his posts on wolves forum.

It really is tragic that an 'amateur' writer can have his finger on the pulse compared to the narrative invented and regurgitated by Collymore/Spiers/Goodman/Fielden et al the people actually pad to know these things,

Gotta say he reflects my opinion on all of those points with unerring accuracy, and in a very readable style. The only point I'd make is that these opinions are hardly headline making hence the media will continue to twist the facts to suit their agenda and attract attention.

A lot of us used to have a good few heated discussions with him in the day. Must be a few years ago since Deutsch was on here.

The first time I have read this guy and almost everything he says makes sense and is the way I saw it.
    His clear writing is excellent.

There are a few things I don't agree with.
Firstly "Fosun have made mistakes "- well he did not mention them, and I cant without big caveats.
Such as who else could we have appointed but a Zenga type ? So no mistake in my book.
Tell me the mistake and I will give you the caveat.
I also have strong suspicions about Graham off the field , and believe they may foil his bid to become the player he could be on the field, they seem entirely reasonable suspicions but I cant verify. But it would not surprise me if other journalists know more.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here. I thought it wasn't the researched article it claims to be.

If we sold Neves at the end of this season for say £15m, my reading of this article suggests we would have that £15m as pure profit

The profit would in fact be £3m, given straight line depreciation of £3m per year.

Maybe this article was written by Arry Deadkrapps accountant.

And if the depreciation policy is taken over the duration of the contract then the full extent of the profit, as inferred in the article, is only demonstrated in said year of sale if and when the contract has expired..... At such point a players value falls markedly anyway.

An impairment review would be apt during the last say 18 months of a contract for that very reason if best practice was applied.

    Comprende?

Are players classed as assets to be depreciated in football clubs accounts though?

To my knowledge and the article writers.... Yes.

But straight line depreciation is too simplistic a policy.

They would be treated more like an investment asset, such as shares or investment properties in traditional business accounts and undergo revaluations. Eg would 18 year old Harry Kane be valued in a set of accounts the same as he is now?

    I suspect not.

The inclusion of footballers as an asset on the balance sheet was started I believe at the start of the 90's and as part of my MBA studies fell within the creative accounting part of our financial/management accounting part of the course. Whilst having some accountancy knowledge both on a personal/academic level I don't claim to have any expertise, particularly as it was nearly 30 years ago!!

Suggest anyone questioning the validity of the blog, details them and then sure the OP can pass them on for comment.

Agree. If sold for £15 million at the end of the season, we would recognise £15 million as revenue and then expense (recognise as a cost) the remaining unamortised (undepreciated) balance in the balance sheet, say £12 million (book value). Any difference between the two (i.e. £3 million, the amount already amortised to the date of any sale) would be considered in the accounting world to be the profit on the sale of an asset.

If I understand the situation correctly the calculations for FFP are somewhat different to the conventional protocols for deprecation and profit/loss calculations...
