Just hearing on SSN Whelan has resigned at Wigan.
Reading over the weekend that he was hoping to sell the club to a Thai consortium so perhaps that is going through.
Saying Paul he has handed it over to his grandson.
Has he cited Norman Deeley as the reason yet?
Good luck in his next career move... break a leg, Dave.
Probably needs to get some rehab on that leg
Wigan looked a doomed side bar a small miracle and Whelan has unloaded them now things look tough, well that's how it comes across. Wigan in L1 will be an even worse place than it is now and won't allow him to get himself noticed anywhere near as much.
I was hoping he'd be there on the 25th April to watch Wolves go onto success whilst Wigan plummet.
Come on Mixers.
A collection and a "Best of Luck in your Retirement" card would be nice.
Having a 23 year old chariman will be interesting
Tinpot outfit who have been punching way above their station for a long time now. Hope they plummet down the leagues and never come back.
If you raise a £1 then it will be you that contributed it Dub
can't stand the knob. Great seeing Wigan going down the leagues where they belong
He remains as owner. I look forward to visiting Wigan for their last home game in the Championship. I hope we have plenty of supporters there to give him a good send off to Division One.
Depending on how things stand Freeport could see Wolves taking a large following to Wigan and much as I think Wigan will have already been relegated I'd love it to be Wolves who sent them down.
He's legged it.
That's them $$$$ed then. Back to the lower leagues with gates of 5,000. Shame that.

Crying shame WV10 lol
How many tickets would we get for that last away match at their ground? Even if we don't make the Play Offs, seeing them relegated that day would be nice.
I hope our one man attack fan goes, laughs at them and stays in the crowd this time.
My sentiments entirely
Really hope we get the opportunity to confirm their relegation, particularly after the final game in the Premiership when they celebrated / goaded us on the pitch at the end of the game.
Would love it. Revenge would be so sweet.
I will give him a good send off, nice and loud about his broken leg
Have a good game tonight.
Didn't he break his leg once - ended his career apparently, apart from the hundred & odd games he played after that !!!
Don't know why people have it in for Wigan who came from non league and have been in the top league for several years, something our owners have not achieved for our club. They've done this on small gates but Whelan has backed them massively and deserves respect for that. Wigan have been a success in an area surrounded by the biggest clubs in the country.
He's still the owner - He's admitted that he forgets players names & should really think first before opening his mouth in public. He's actually hindering Wigan & will drop out of the media spotlight (if thats possible) & let his grandson run things.
I suspect that its more a case of a club having to cut their cloth accordingly. Start life back in league 1, dramatically reduce their wage bill & playing staff & make savings wherever possible - rather than tarnish his image, he's decided to let someone else take the flack.
Their election into the League over Kettering was dodgy as . By one vote with two Kettering voters not allowed in for being two minutes late for the meeting - not the vote.
I detest Whelan and his continued attacks upon the integrity of a dead man unable to defend himself against his version of events.
Saw this on my phone under 'Breaking News'. My first thoughts were FFS here we go again?
Best post on this subject. Ever.
I wonder if he can still get his leg over?
Well said Wallace!Great to see Martinez keeping them up against the odds at the time!
Got to laugh at so called Football fans, hate the big clubs for buying their way to success and smaller clubs like Wigan should plummet to where they supposedly belong! Whatever happened to the romantic notion of a small club punching above it's weight? Cue some reply stating what happened 50 odd years ago! Don't Bother!
Yeah. Fantastic that Whelan bought a vehicle with which to disparage a true wolves great and REPEATEDLY attempt to re-write history whilst dragging the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers (uncaring thugs who didn't visit him in hospital) through the mud.
Hooray for Dave. We need more bitter borderline racists in this world.
Excellent post sir!!
Although need to obey orders as you, me and all other fans who care had been "ordered" not to bother - Thus Spake Fan in Vogelsang!
you mean you value whelans opinions and feel intimidated when its on film that his version of events is clearly a figment of his imagination. plus who the hell is listening to him after 55 years. hes wrong, end of story.
No I didn't mean that at all. I meant pretty much what I said. That I didn't appreciate a chap dragging the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norman Deeley through the mud, regardless of his 'mis-remembering', his age or indeed the media lapping it up at face value.
I'd also pleased that hopefully this now means we won't be hearing any more fiction from him and that I'll no longer have to moan about Dave $$$$ing Whelan on this message board. Just as I'm sure you're all pleased you won't have to read me going on about it again. I get to change the record.
Strange way to say goodbye...
