Seeing as this seems to be taking a lot of other threads off topic (and apologies as I'm as guilty as anyone on this one), I'm interested as to people's answer to the obvious question... ...if we don't make the play-offs this year, does Jackett deserve at least next season to continue his work here? Personally, I say 100% yes as: 1. He did a superb job last season, effectively helping to bring the club off its' knees. 2. He has continued to do a decent job this year given the squad available to him. Of those above us, I would say that only Brentford are massively outperforming due to some excellent recruitment in the Summer. The other teams above Wolves have either a far superior side (Derby, Watford, Norwich and Middlesbrough) or an extra 12 months' experience playing together at this level (Ipswich and Bournemouth, who incidentally both finished in a similar position to where we currently are this year). In comparison, I think there are many more squads that ours is overperforming against (Forest, Blackburn, Cardiff, Fulham, Wigan etc). 3. I don't believe he is out of his depth at this level. The closest comparison would be with a successful 'Championship Manager' in Holloway who is doing a worse job with the same resources that Jackett had at Millwall. 4. He is working well in terms of alignment with the club's strategy of bringing through (and in) talented youngsters with scope for long-term improvement. 5. Generally in his time here, his record in the transfer market has been decent with a better hit/miss ratio than a number of his predecessors. His net spend during his 18 months here is fairly neutral from a fees perspective (and the wage bill has been reduced hugely) and the only seven-figure sum signing in that time has been Afobe. He looks excellent so I'd like to see what Jackett can do with another 2-3 players in that price range. So all in all, whilst I'm not convinced that he will eventually take us up (and the statistics suggest that he quite probably won't), I think the job he has done here has been superb and certainly worthy of further time and backing going forward. What do others think and why? And if people don't think he is the man for next season, who do they think is? And why?
