Lost 7-1 today!
Many were involved for the 21's the other day so not really fussed!
Do they lack strength in depth as well ?
Excuses, excuses there are always excuses. 1-7 is a slaughter and Rob Edwards seemed to be doing a very decent job this season. Put it down to experience but I do believe that the performances and attainment of the first team filters down to the youth teams in one way or another. The fact is the club at this moment imv looks pretty mediocre and unambitious all round even after the Academy investment etc.
Many of the under 21's are in the first team, which means many of the under 18's will be in the 21's which may in turn mean many u17's in u18.
Shocking result, but don't forget the context of many youth players either on loan or in first team squad.
There really cant be many excuses for a 7-1 defeat at any level. Very poor.
Just like the u21 defeat at Nuneaton was poor and winning one game all season, so far, is not very good is it?! Yes we have a young u21 team but so do some of our rivals. Winning one game all season cannot be good for the lads morale surely?!
Connor Ronan is playing for England u 17s today for example.
Good news. He is a talented player from what I have heard. Its a shame the u18s results are tailing off just like they did last season and the u21's results have been well poor to say the least.
They need to improve or these lads wont know what its like to win a game!
I agree and have always felt that the argument that results don't matter at that level is absolute rubbish. If you keep losing matches it is bound to hit confidence and is anything but helpful for young players literally attempting to find their feet in the professional game. We have needed a winning mentality to be instilled for many years. I am so fed up of hearing all the excuses as if we are the only club playing under age players or getting international call ups etc. Wolves players need to get used to being winners at all levels so it becomes a habit. All that money has now been pumped in and if I was Mr Morgan I would be expecting results, not just the filter through of some players into the first team squad but youth teams in Cup and League making some kind of an impression. Perhaps we have better years ahead but as we say so often it is always tomorrow and tomorrow at Wolves.
Boo moxley and Morgan out the youth blueprint is doomed

Trouble is they dont like it up and at them.
People trying to justify a 7-1 thrashing is quite funny.
There really is no justifying it. It is very poor.
Some people just won't have anything questioned against the club, despite our U21s getting a beating every week also.
The players confidence must be in tatters. One league win all season!
The U18's are now starting to follow suit after a good start to the season.
What do you reckon is bad for players' collective confidence? Getting beaten every week or their own supporters barracking them on internet forums calling them $$$$ etc. At the level they're playing winning games isn't all that important but actually getting matchday experience is
Probably getting beaten every week, they wouldn't be too bright if they listened to supporters opinions.
And besides, haven't seen anybody call them $$$$ on this thread, that's quite an exaggeration.
Getting beaten, I would imagine.
Getting beaten every week cannot be any good for confidence. It is perfectly fair to question and debate our academy seeing as Morgan places so much emphasis on it.
The results are poor and I would hope they improve.
We place far too much emphasis on winning at that age
Winning one game all season for the u21's is hardly great Stu!
Lets be honest. Their confidence cant be that great when they cant buy a win.
A winning mentality is always better.
As for the u18's they had a good start to the season but they have faded badly, just like they did last season.
they lost 7-1 to the now league champions ....
League table for anyone interested .. Boro must be a good side to top a league like that, we havent done too badly if im honest
1 Middlesbrough U18 20 +27 46
2 Everton U18 20 +16 38
3 Manchester Cit… 18 +16 33
4 Manchester Uni… 17 +6 32
5 Derby County U18 17 +10 29
6 Liverpool U18 19 +5 26
7 Sunderland U18 20 -5 23
8 Wolverhampton U18 17 -5 22
9 Newcastle Unit… 18 -12 18
10 Blackburn Rove… 19 -19 16
11 Stoke City U18 18 -15 15
12 Bolton Wandere…
Was wondering why no one mentioned who the opponents were.
Results like that are common at this level. Especially with player moving up and down age groups and leaving on loan etc.
Do we know the line up. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a few under 16s involved.
My point entirely whereas seeing comments akin to thinking they're poor players from people who are meant to be "supporting" them can't be good for their confidence
Which is my point exactly. It doesn't matter about winning at that age, it is all about improving technique.
I guess it would have destroyed the sense of collective outrage and the need for a good moan, Dubwolf. Bad result and in fairness not as good a season as I thought they had but the return from the Academy over the last season has been impressive with a number of players coming through to the first team panel. One must salute Middlesborough on what they have achieved if they are already league champions. As for the Under-18's if we get two players coming through to the first team from that team I will consider it an excellent achievement. The result was disappointing but in the overall context secondary.
We currently have what? 5 under 21s in the first team set up?
If that happens every few years we'll have a bloody successful academy.
A lot of U18s played for the U21s, where I guess, as Middlesborough are trying to win the league will have a full U21s team out.
They will be getting a bloody big fine if they put a full u21 team out in an u18 fixture, Penk!
We seem to be able to develop defenders and defensive midfielders but I would love to see us develop attacking creative midfielders and strikers now who are good enough to assimilate into the first team squad.
Sorry but that is absolute bull**** and an absolute cop out. It is completely defeatist and then we wonder why in the past so many of our youth players seemed to lack confidence. A winning mentality throughout a club's ranks is vital. Of course when we are playing against other top Academies you expect the odd big defeat or set back but the club have put most of their eggs now in the Academy basket. The justification for not investing more in the first team will increasingly be we are investing in youth instead. So a decent showing from our youth teams from now on is more than reasonable to expect. Improving your technique and losing 1-7 a progressive way forward! I think not.
The very fact confidence is shot in your words would be down to the emphasis on winning!!!
Thanks for proving my point so eloquently
Middlesboro almost top in the Championship, and with a league winning youth team. And with Wolves having been in the Premiership much more recently than they have.
Whatever way you spin it, it doesnt look good for how Wolves are being run, either at senior level or youth level.
Depends on how you define succes doesn't it. We could have 11 from the academy making up the 1st team, only for the 1st team to be a failing shambles groping about in the lower reaches of the Championship or (God forbid) worse. Would the academy be a success then - or would it be a case of it having become easier for academy players to graduate to the first team squad given absence of better players already there. I take your point though.
Maybe it's because of all the defending we have to do in the junior age groups
We have so many under 21s in the first team out of necessity as without these under 21s we couldn't put a team out... hardly a ringing endorsement of anything
What next!? Look boys we don't want you to feel under any pressure to win in fact it is perfectly acceptable to lose, in fact losing is something we would like you to get used to because it is character building.
Yeah, never really concentrated on what I was typing.
If the better under 18s were playing for the under 21s then their will be younger players filling their roles in the U18s, where as Middlesborough will have had a full strength under 18s team.
