  1. Don't know how much truth is in it, maybe Bluenoses will know more, but apparently they have lined up a bid for West Ham's Bowyer.

Carsley, McSheffrey, Queudruw, Jaidi, Hunt, Ridgwell, Phillips & now possibly Bowyer. That’s a lot of experience for a Championship team. In my opinion Alex McLeish will be doing one hell of a job if he fails to get Birmingham promoted this season.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer our squad, youth and speed 100% more then the current Blues squad. I wonder how many more seasons McLeish will get from the above players and whether they’re good enough to last in the Premiership? Looking through the players in their squad there seem to be a lot of ‘failed Premiership’ players in there already.

What do you lot think of Bowyer as a championship signing? I admit we could do with a little more experience in centre midfield but I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole!

That's a hell of a wage bill for a Championship side. Plus most of them aren't good enough to play in the Premier League any more.

Indeed. That's a lot of replacements needed in the summer. They're seriously $$$$ed if they lose in the play offs.

  6. And look at their crowds - only 18,000 again last weekend. If they fail to go back up for the Sky money they will surely be in serious trouble and the owners will be unable to give the club away! Shame.

On a football purist scale of 1-10, Lee Bowyer and Lee Carsley gets a 1.

On a 'getting out of the Championship' scale of 1-10, it gets a 9.

A good player and certainly more than capable at this level. I'd be very worried if they signed him.

It would be a bit like us signing Danny Murphy

People said Lee Hendrie was not that good but he came to this div on loan and played really well. Bowyer is miles better than Lee Hendrie and I think a centre midfield of Carsley and Bowyer is very good for this league.

They controlled the game last week against us now throw another prem player their........

Quite correct and what an age profile... zimmer frames soon.
You cant help but notice how full of running we are at the end of games compared with some other teams. Blues and QPR were praying for the final whistle.

Lee Hendrie's hardly figured in 18 months for Sheffield United and is now on loan at Blackpool, not doing much. He did actually play against us a couple of weeks ago, not that it was easy to notice him being as he hardly touched the ball.

For all his faults Bowyer would be excellent in this league.

Blues looked stronger in midfield than us without him, nevermind with him.

As a long term signing though he is a bad idea. Much rather a Harper or a Watson. Or Nolan when we pass Bolton on the way up!!

I wouldn't have a problem if we got him on loan as he could definately do a job for us in this division, but he would need replacing if we wrre to go up. He does appear to be a complete $$$$ though and I'm not sure how good an influence he would be on our young and hungry stars.

  16. Agree Hans, but this is the main issue with us currently bringing 'experienced' players in, isn't it? Wages and 'dressing room atmosphere' will be tested as the more experienced and presumably 'better' players will ultimately demand more money, and this will upset our young starlets. The only way we'll manage to bring in experienced players without making to many waves in the dressing room is by getting someone like Iwelumo, who plays for the same kind of wage our lads are on and probably hasn't had a crack at the big league yet. But i don't see many of those around though, and more importantly, even if they were available, we'd probably need to change them or 'upgrade' them come the end of the season if we were promoted anyway.

Liam Ridgewell is only 24. He probably seems older because he has been playing in the Prem since he was about 19. If Mancienne does not sign permanently we could do a lot worse than try to sign Ridgewell if we get promoted and Blues don't.

  18. Ridgewell was gash against us. And i will admit to thinking he was slightly older then that but his 79 games with Villa means he has more 'Premier League experience' then most of our squad put together anyway.

Its gay. Alot of posters on here use it & its not even a word. Its like being in the playground at school where a stupid word catches on & everyone uses it at every given opportunity, until they move on to the next word 2 weeks later.

Whats up with a good old fashioned crap/rubbish/****??

For one season, in the championship, i'd rather a midfield of Carsley and Bowyer than Jones & Henry.

This word has been around a long long time and is just a generic term for rubbish. (as well as its other uses)

Used a lot in the military as in ditch the gash, gash bin etc.

They can have bowyer. Another over the hill overpaid has been like carsley. If they dont get promotion this season they are going to be stuck with decrepid old players like carsley, phillips and bowyer ( if they sign him).

Here's a snippet from a Birmingham fan some of you may find interesting.

    a) I think Maik Taylor is a reasonable goalkeeper to get them out of this league, but I don't see him every week.
    b) They should be out of sight considering the players they have at their disposal.
    c) Compared to us and Reading, who are both in the 40's goalscoring wise, Birmingham have only scored 32 goals - which is interesting as you'd consider a side possessing the likes of McFadden and Phillips to be leading the charts. Burnley have scored 1 more than them, Watford have scored as many.
    d) Their defence is helped by their horribly defensive midfield - Jaidi and Ridgewell both lack composure on the ball, this was evident in our match when all they did was hoof it.
    e) However, I think they will still go up and the play-offs should be a certainty for the top 3 now.

Martin Taylor is a defender Wolv3nsam, not to be confused with the goalkeeper Maik!

    Otherwise, agreed.

If they have been so poor then, why are they only 3 points behind us and clear of 3rd. This is what worries me. 32 goals is reasonable when you look at how many they have conceeded. I think their fans just expect to much, thats the only difference between the teams at the moment.

    Agreed.
A "gash hand" in the 50'60's was certainly a term used to describe someone in the building/plumbing trade who was a bodger/fraud.

Is McLiesh doing a Dave Jones. The experience may get you up but those players will not keep you up. Blues will have to replace at least half of their squad to compete. That will be too expensive and they will come back down - as we did.
If we get promoted we will have to add a few players but we also have more value in our younger stars.

LEE BOWYER is mulling over a £750,000 switch to Birmingham.

City boss Alex McLeish met the West Ham midfielder yesterday and offered him the chance to join the promotion-chasing Championship club.
But Bowyer, 32, wants to find out if there will be a fans’ backlash first.
He almost joined the Blues three years ago but the move collapsed because supporters signed an on-line petition in protest.
McLeish has also offered Rangers £3.8million for striker Kris Boyd.
