I knew as soon as I saw the black strip we were on a slippery slope yesterday. We never play well wearing that strip. How many games, if any, have we played well when the players have had it on their backs?

Surely not as unlucky as playing in all gold.

We always seem to be shockingly awful when we play in that kit...

  3. Why do we need to change when we're playing a team in blue and whit hoops?
I hate the black and fluorescent green strip, its wrong for this club.

I was talking about lasy years black strip too, Marrs. Having said that I had forgotten that we'd beaten the hornets wearing the back shirts. Perhaps the old gold shorts kept the bad performances at bay.

Weren't we in black when we lost to Norwich? Think yesterday, Watford (tops) and Norwich are the only times we've had it.

Either way it's $$$$ and if we don't get promoted automatically with over 100 points and scoring 100+ goals I shall pin all the blame on the black and radiation yellow kit!

I won't of course, it's like blaming our 80's downfall on hooped socks whilst conveniently forgetting we wore hooped socks when we were arguably the best team in europe!

the black kit is one of the tackiest ive ever seen us play in and id imagine difficult to see against the crowd, which may explain our poor passing yesterday.

  16. Good theory wallace.

We'd probably play better in a luminious green / yellow strip with black trimmings! The lemmings would still buy it.

  17. said the same thing yesterday just as we came out of the tunnel no need to wear it when we are against a team wearing a blue and white hoops.

also agree its a very tacky kit and has no place at our club!

  18. Wolves should always have a all white away kit.....full stop

  19. Has it sold well? I see fans wearing the shirts at games ( even at the Mol for some reason! ) but that's only a visible sample of really dedicated shirt buyers.

Not sure whether it's popular with the rest of the fans. nobody I know has bought it or likes it, but again that's small sample of supporters.

Aren't we contractually obliged to wear the black kit so many times a season due to the kit sponsorship?

Must admit I dislike it but that's just a "taste" thing.

A good theory (excuse), one that's already been used by Sir Alex Ferguson when Man Utd once played the first half of a match in that grotesque grey kit they once had...mind, they changed strip at half time and actually won the 2nd half of the match (against Southampton) 1-0 - shame they lost the first half 3-0!

  22. Devonwolf

My thoughts exactly. There was no clash of colours if we wore gold and black

  23. Devonwolf

We discussed this, surely it's up to their keeper to change colours

  24. Atlas 1951

Surely the sponsors are the same on both kits? Or are we on about the kit supplier?

I've never imagined it were contractual, but I can see how the club would think it was in their best interest to wear it on more than the two occasions (Watford, Norwich -- am I missing anyone? Can't be bothered to check) per season that the change is forced on us in order to sell more of them. Take Plymouth, for example: they'd never wear their away shirts unless they wanted to.

While we're on the subject, can anyone categorically confirm or deny that Preston North End and Reading can both enforce a change of strip on the home team? i.e. they don't actually require away strip.

Oh dear, we'll need to wear it in front of the TV cameras again at Blackpool

Don't think so. My recollection is that they wore the strip all game and conceded 6 that day. Sir Alex swore they'd never wear it again, saying the players had had difficulty picking it out against the background of the crowd.

It's been one of the best selling away tops ever has it not? If so a great call by the club who it seems are more up to date than a few on this thread.

My youngest loves it. In fact when he goes to football training in the week the black top is the most popular of all kits on display.

For what it's worth I don't mind black as an away strip colour, its the high viz green/puke colour that I don't get???

As someone else said our away strip should be all white

  34. Mr Zuki

Why should our away strip be all white? We have had all sorts of away strips over the years as have most clubs.

As for the green, it's a fashion thing, flourescent trim is popular at the moment.

I'm a traditionalist Zuki - the colours v the whites was a high spot in my early days of supporting the club

I'm also sure you are correct that green flourescent is a fashion thing, but then again (fortunately) I'm too old to be a chav :D

    Popular with who, the circus?

Actually, I like the top and don't mind the flourescent strips, but i would prefer a white away strip.

Well, popular with me for one :)

I also like white but I think it's good to see different colours and styles tried out.

Fine, wear it in the pub, kids footie training etc.
Just don't wear it for matches played under floodlights where we are obviously struggling to pick out our own players.
