What about Birmingham? And why do Reading need an extra point? They'll finish with a better GD than us IMO.

Because Reading are 3rd and out of the auto places at the moment,if they replace Blues in second place I will then post Blues requirements. As I said before a win is 3 points(FACT) and a draw is 1 point(FACT) to make any suppositions on how large/small victories are is pure conjecture. So the 1 point extra is to denote what they would need to replace us,provided Blues stay there. It's only a bit of lighthearted fun to monitor our progress.

and where is the guarantee that 88 is enough? if Blues and Reading push us to the wire we may need 90 or more.

None-Just that that was the projected target posted on MM at the start of the season. It may be more,it may be less-Just a bit of fun.

I just hope that someone goes in for Doyle or Hunt at Reading in January. That would really knock some of the wind out of their sails. Someone like Everton, knocking on the door of regular European football would be good...too good an offer to say no to.

Agreed, but David Moyes has already said he won't have any cash in January. I think it will be very slow in the window and we will be one of the few exceptions , including the PL ,to splash the cash. Most deals will probably be loans which certainly shouldn't preclude us either.

  8. With Yakubu & Saha crocked, Moyes will have to try to get someone in.

Everton will be desperate for a decent striker - lets hope that he focusses on Doyle (who has just signed a contract) or Bent/Jerome/Phillips from Bluse rather than SEB.

    Whats this projected score?
Why have you projected Reading will get 11 points more than us over 26 games when they have got 10 points less over 20 games?

For them to do that is going to mean a huge huge run of wins. In fact for them to do that they can probably afford only 3 or 4 defeats over the next and 3 or 4 draws over the next 26 games, that is probably as good as the run they last had, and thi steam is no where near as strong in depth as that team nor as good.

Projection is the wrong word, he's looking at how many points we'll need to get promoted, and showing that Reading need a better set of results than us. A projection would just be the league as it is currently obviously.

JESUS HOW MANY MORE TIMES? I'll make it simple for you. There was much talk at the start of the season that we would need 88 points to go up.LOOK AT THE POSTINGS.All I have done is predict how many wins/draws we need to achieve it. The 89 points attributable to Reading is to show what they would need to deny us auto promotion, assuming Blues stay in the top 2. It's got nothing to do with whether I think they will/won't achieve/better this,or whether we will do even better.:(

    OK OK......

Your just showing what Reading will need to overtake us to get above 88 points.

In that case i agree with what your showing, they will need a quite awesome run of results.

If they get this they will truly deserve to walk this division.

AND OUR RUN OF RESULTS TO GET 88 POINTS WOULD BE CRAP

    Target W 12 D 5 L 9 = 41points(88 points)
HAS ANY TEAM GONE UP LOSING 12 GAMES???

we should be able to win half our games surely!!! lose 9? not sure, maybe 6 at the most but you never know.

Sunderland won the league in 06-07 losing 12 games.

It's not really a problem if you don't draw many games, which we don't.

As did Blues and Derby that year. Hull lost 13 last year, and Albion 11.

I have a horrible feeling that to be promoted, 2nd spot will need a higher than average final amount of points, whatever that will be. I can see the top three pulling away from the rest, creating the possiblity that the third team will probably get the highest points ever not to be promoted automatically.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what the highest point total a third team has achieved?

    Sunderland got 90 in 1997/98.

Only three teams since 1992/93 have failed to go up automatically with 88 points, Sunderland and Charlton in 1997/98, and Portsmouth in 1992/93.

Im not convinced we will need more than 85 points to finish in the top 2 at the moment

IF there was only 6 points seperating the top 3 and we was all above 41 points at this stage then i'd agree... but as Reading are can only be on a maximum of 37 after tonight then they are gonna need one of hell of a run similar to their Championship season to take the points needed for 2nd into the high 80's/early 90's IF us and Blues can sustain our average points per game so far.

I agree. I think people are massively overestimating Reading's quality, they're as far behind us as they are for a reason.

I'd agree with that.. they impressed against us at times but part of that has to go down to us losing both Kightly and Jarvis and inparticular being without Iwelumo thorugh suspension. I personally dont think Bikey would have had such an impressive game had Iwelumo been on the pitch.

The game would also have been different if Hennessey hadnt dropped the ball in his own net after 3 minutes.. seemed to have a negative impact on the rest of our performance that night IMO.

Big test as far as Reading are concerned is if they can keep hold of Doyle and Hunt in January.. IF us and Blues still have the same or similar gap on them in January then im sure either one of them would find a move back to the prem very appealing.. Doyle in particular when Villa are rumoured to be going back in for him and can offer UEFA cup football.
