I have posted this as a new thread so that it doesn't get lost in all the other diatribe,Matt has ruptured his patella tendon. Dr Cool has just rung me to say that he has spoken to Rachel Heyhoe-Flint and she has confirmed the bad news. Understanably Matt is gutted.:(

Here's hoping your back in goal for us again soon Matt.

Terrible news; my heart does go out for Matt. It takes such perseverence to become a top pro and then to have to face these kind of battle on top of it, just doesn't seem fair.

I'm sure he'll be doing a fair bit of soul-searching in the next few weeks. It's not good for a young man to be spending all his days in front of the television wondering about his future.

  5. Dear god does that bloke have any luck

    Best wishes Matt

Oh dear... it's getting to the point where this is ridiculous, is there no operation that can be done to strengthen ligaments and/or tendons? As far as I know the patella tendon is a new injury for Matt, but will be dependent on the cruciates (that he did last) for support.

Absolutely gutted for Matt and as most of us did - fear the worst. Whatever he decides to do from now on he will always have our support! Can he come back from this? Only Matt will know..

Dreadful news - I am sure all our hearts go out to him. Hope he can battle through again. It shows how vital it is to keep Hennessey and Ikeme - two excellent young goalkeepers we are very lucky to have. I am sure the club will stand by Murray yet again. Such a talented and good hearted guy he is still young enough to try again. Just wonder how he will cope with it mentally after so much disappointment.

Got the text from Smokey GB whilst at the game and immediately thought "what next for the big guy (injury wise)" Every injury he's had as been a different one but my God how much more can his body take?

What a gutter for Matt. I feel desperately sorry for the bloke. I have to wonder whether the way he grew so tall when he was young has adversely affected the strength of his bones, ligaments and tendons and coupled with too much of the wrong type of training when young could have caused his continual injury problems. Whatever is the underlying cause, it seems an awful lot of injuries to keep rehabbing from. Mentally you have to be extremely tough to cope. Matt will need a lot of support and encouragement.

His body isn't made for football, unfortunately.

Time to settle his contract and wish him all the best. He's got the face, intelligence and character for a decent career in the media world. Time to bite the bullet i'm afraid.

Awful, awful news. Such a great shame for him. It's always the good guys, isn't it? If it is a twelve month lay off, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires now. Many a lesser character wouldn't have fought for as long as he as done.

I'm sure he'll get plenty of that from Mick, Hennessey, Ikeme and his other fellow team mates as well as every Wolves fan. I have to say I can't see him pulling through this one though.

With us going so well and the chances of us being promoted this season are very good, i would say Matt will try again to get fit for a possible crack at the Premiership next season. I sincerely wish him all the best for a complete recovery.

Hope he can come back from this mentally, I couldn't. Not really the right word but this is 'boring' he's getting injured so much, so hope he can be strong and keep going. Not very encouraging that he's done this just kicking the ball though, suggests underlying problems, at least if you fall awkwardly ala Michael Owen or Elokobi you clearly know why it's happened.

    Patella

Seriously guys, if it is true his patella is torn the guy is finished as a footballer.

The muscle is supposed tear before the patella tear.. it usually has great strength.

I did my anterior cruciate ligament 4 years ago so i really fear for Matt.

What exactly did Pat (?) Mountain retire with? Could Matt become a Goalie Coach?

If Matt were to retire I would personally want us to offer him some form of coaching role, surely a fantastic character to have about the place. If you ever go to the training ground the bloke has always got a smile on his face despite his horrendous bad luck.

Similar age then (isn't he only early 30's) and similar-ish injury?

    Absolutely gutted for him

If he was fit, with the state of the current England GK department he'd be on the plane to the WC in 2010.

Tonight probably isnt the time to mention it but you really do have to wonder if he can come back from this one.

He'd probably injure himself firing shots and crosses in...

He's made for media work - good looking, a friendly personality, no ego to speak of... I think he would have a damn good career if he chose this route.

Horrendous news, does anyone know if its the same knee?? I really feel for the guy, but as others have said I feel this is the end for him. I hope, if this is the case he is advised to hang up his boots now rather than go through another agonising 12 months for the same thing to happen again. So sorry Matt

  35. Devastating news. You have to feel for the guy, you really do.

This will be such a test for him now, he's a fans favourite but will we ever see him play in a Wolves shirt again :(

How many operations has he had already? How many did bully have before he decided to hang his boots up??

Maybe he could go part-time almost, find something else to do but keep up his fitness and strength with Wolves every other day or something. Work towards getting back fit but not necessarily having to sit around the physio room all the time.

Exactly. He's damaging his body, which could have serious ramifications as he gets older. I'm sure he's a millionaire already and however hard a decision it will undoubtably be, it's time to admit defeat in this career.

I'm sure Wolves will find a position for him on the media/corporate side but there should be plenty of opportunities for him on one of the many sports tv channels/radio/newspaper forums all over the world.
