It is a testament to this being a good season that we have outperformed this thread.

Being honest though there really isn't anything in it. 7th - 15th in the league are very close. We've done well to be where we are and I imagine the mood would be a lot more positive if we'd been in excellent binary form now and struggled earlier.

But, the old adage about aunties, uncle's and *******s springs to mind. Bruno must arrest the slide. He doesn't have Nuno levels of credit in the bank and Fosun are incredibly cut throat

Our underlying numbers are terrible and match the eye test far more than our league position.

Some of our underlying numbers were terrible in the seasons we finished 7th, too. Especially those to do with attacking - time spent in opponents 3rd, touches in opponents penalty area etc. It's not like these past 2 seasons have totally veered off in an unrecognisable direction from the first 2. Just a gradual decline of what is much the same squad, though with several key players sold, injured, ageing, wanting to move on etc.

The novelty of not looking totally out of our depth (as in previous Premier League seasons) generally made us fans more tolerant of the times the football was dull, when we were sat deep without the ball just waiting for a break. 4 years of that, though, and that novelty has worn off - we expect a bit more, which is inevitable, really. Add in comms from the owners have dried up, so a lot of that initial feel good factor has gone. Important summer coming up, for sure.

No they weren't at all, we were like 5th in xpoints in 2019/20 , 6th in 2018/19. Totally incorrect

So why didn't we finish 5th? Couldn't score enough goals? Seems to me pretty clear what changed in 2019/20 and has not been addressed. And it's not the manager. Decline started around August/September 2019 when we effectively traded Jota & Doc for Fabio & Semedo.

We finished below our xG, yeah we didn't score quite enough goals but your statement on underlying numbers was wrong. Ours this year have us 15th

There are so many numbers and stats. In the end, surely league position is the one that counts most? What about 8th being a 25% improvement on 13th? Project that improvement forward and we will be 3rd next season. The maths proves it :D There must be "some" underlying numbers this season that have led us to be only a few points worse off than a couple of seasons ago? If our underlying stats were all abysmal, we'd be in Everton or Leeds position. It's not that difficult to start with a conclusion and cherry pick the stats that prove it.

We've often had a strange set of stats since promotion. Generally at the top end or bottom end of them. Worst at "attacks through the centre", for example, hence the Horseshoe of Doom. I definitely remember possession in opponents third being closer to a relegation battling team than a title challenger. There's just so many stats! Anyway, all that aside, I still think the main difference is a couple of player changes that totally changed us...much debated here, we all know them. Then we have other players going past their peak, and too many who are still a long way from it.

What about transfer stats? Nuno was given far more support in his first 2 seasons than at anytime since. I think we've been living off that ever since and if we don't get an injection of quality players to match those seasons, then we will continue to decline.

What were Leicester's underlying numbers the year before they won the league? Even though they did have a good run at the end of the season to save themselves, those numbers presumably contained nothing that indicated they were going to win the league? Thing is, they bought Kante, and we need something similar.

Let's put things into perspective:
We're 8th in The Best League In The World, that every player aspires to being involved in.

And in Bruno's 1st year in charge!

Those of us long suffering supporters, since 1956, have experienced many highs , along with more than average lows!

We are now an established Premier Club.

Let the GOOD TIMES ROLL!!

Wolves ONLY Wolves!!
(Once a Wolf ALWAYS a Wolf.)

This is true but hard to hide the disappointment of such a poor finish….last 13 games were relegation form. Once we reached 40 points ,the elusive 60 points and a European spot seemed a real possibility and it’s hard to figure what’s gone wrong .

the knee jerk reaction here is to want Fosun, coady ,Jimenez, Silva,Boly, hwang, Bruno moutinho, Marcal, out immediately but fortunately I believe Fosun have more patience and more vision than that…. In fact as you say nearly all would have been satisfied with top ten at the start,

The club is faced with problems that affect all the pretenders ( burnley, Sheffield United,Leeds etc) First revenue is so much less than the big six we cannot compete for the top players on salary or transfer fee….hence we always have to punch above our weight which is not sustainable . Second as soon as you get to the pretender spot in the top 10 the big six look at stealing your best players.

I don’t know the answer to this but it is a huge difficulty which most posters here ignore thinking it’s somebody’s fault we aren’t doing better.

Trouble is top 6 revenue is ridiculous.
Everyone else, maybe bar Saudi on Tyne is potential relegation candidates so have to be clever with experience and transfers. Look at Everton, even Villa flirted with bottom 5.
Thought we'd finish bottom 5 this year, and without that first 3/5ths of the season, we'd have gone. Need more mobile players all over our team, especially if we don't sit back all game Nunoball style.
