Middlesbrough came just short of reaching a play-off place with Chris Wilder this season.

The former Sheffield United manager was appointed in November with the side way off the pace of the promotion chasing sides.

However, an immediate impact turned the team around into play-off contenders.

But a couple of missed opportunities at the end of the campaign threw away the chance to earn a top six finish, with the team coming 7th in the Championship table.

Wilder will be hoping for a greater impact as he prepares for his first full season in charge at the Riverside.

With the transfer window now in full swing, the club is working on completing its business ahead of a likely promotion push next season.

It is understood that the club has yet to make any decision on the future of Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The full-back has impressed during his stint at the City Ground and has attracted interest from top level clubs.

But it is expected that no talks will take place with the 21-year old until this Sunday’s play-off final, involving Forest, has concluded.

Football League World has also revealed that Boro are monitoring the situation surrounding St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark.

The 29-year old’s contract is set to expire this summer, but the club will have to see off competition from a number of clubs in order to secure his signature for next season.

The future of Marcus Tavernier has also been in question in recent weeks.

However, a recent report by the Northern Echo suggests that the club have no interest in letting the midfielder depart the Riverside this summer.

The 23-year old had been subject to speculation, with the likes of Wolves, Everton and Leicester City all reportedly monitoring the situation.

It has been revealed by Alan Nixon that Boro are looking to bring back Jordan Rhodes to the club.

The striker is currently with Huddersfield Town, but spent two seasons with Middlesbrough, where he scored six league goals from 24 league appearances.

Alex Crook has also reported that the recruitment team could look to bring Bournemouth duo Gavin Kilkenny and Jack Stacey to the club this summer.
