At a glance

01a.png

01b.png

28 players so far this week. Last week's reports of bare-knuckle fistfights and Chinese burns behind the bike sheds between Doris and that sassy new girl in the tuckshop, while Bruno waited patiently to buy his cheese and ham sandwich and Yorkie bar, have dampened enthusiasm; we only have 3 predicted Wolves wins, 3 draws, and 22 Chelsea victories, many doubled at 2-0 and 3-0. If there was ever a week for the Prediction League curse to strike, let it be this one.

18 players opt for Burnley to continue their bullying league-winning form against Villa in the Claret Derby, with Contrarian and Miniwolf sticking up for Li'l Stevie G, while 5 of us are daft enough to think Spurs can get a draw at Liverpool, and Boon2 thinks they can win. Wolf In Essex and Boon2 are the only ones who believe in Southampton, while 25 players have gone for Arsenal against Leeds (Boon2 and I are on the draw and SuperGran thinks Leeds will win). Boon2 is also Watford's sole supporter - I think he might secretly be an anarchist.

Only 3 players think Man City won't win, and 3 think Norwich will. Not the same 3 players, that would be silly. And in the match of the weekend, 5 players have gone for a Clermont Foot victory, 13 for Montpellier, and 10 for the draw. Could make all the difference.

For the first time in five rounds, we have one player out alone at the top of the weekly board - possibly something to do with the way his fur smells when he's been out in the sun. We've all been there. Congratulations Ewok Vs Wolf, with a second weekly win after a previous victory in Week 4, after a catastrophic and crazy Sunday where late, late goals for Cagliari and Sevilla changed the complexion of the day for many. Ewok finished on 29 points, thanks mainly to being the only player to predict 5-0 for Man City, topped up with a doubled pointed 1-1 for Sevilla/Villarreal. Jrpb-3 continued strong season-ending form with 28 and two correct scores (Sevilla again), while Geowolf reached 26, 22 of those points coming on Sunday, and two correct (Sevilla and Cagliari - told you they were important goals). Purplepault69 was also on 26, and the only player to predict Wolves' stirring 2-2 comeback. Oh When The Wolves - with two correct, one doubled - and Frank Lincoln were the best of the title contenders with 25 apiece. No-one got more then two correct scores this week - it was one of those.

SG Wolves suffered his first mis-step in a long while, with a 10-point haul seeing significant ground conceded to the pursuing Wonder Boyo and Frank Lincoln, who are now just 19 and 26 points behind respectively. Is this the beginning of haunting capitulation, or is SG magnanimously allowing a fascinating finish to the league with just two weeks to go? Frank has done well to drag himself back into contention by the bootstraps. Blast Tyrant couldn't take advantage of the slip, but remains in the hunt in 4th, while Oh When The Wolves moves into the top 5 with a late-season run of form.

In the form table over the last six games (see below), Jrpb-3 is second only to Wonder Boyo, and is now just 2 points of the top ten.

Yeah still recent weeks have renewed my hopes for breaking into the top 10.
Still annoyed about my one missed week. ( I was away and filled in predictions on my tablet, then I think I just selected save from the on screen keyboard and not that and post reply on the site, so my predictions never made it to the site, and being away I didn't check the site again till after the weekend, with my varying form if could have been a good or a bad week)
Oh well still in with a chance

no one to blame but myself (I don't have a dog )

the fact teat the two closest rivals either side of me have also missed a week doesn't help my argument either

though it does mean there could be a close finish for top spot amongst those who have missed a week (or more)

Mid-table round-up, just for @Huge of Sharjah -

Nige100 and Jrpb-3 are poised on the edge of the top ten like artistic owls, hungrily eyeing the mice of Wolf In Essex and Wolf In The North, for whom a single slip at this vital stage could cost them their tails. Our owls are separated by just one point in their personal duel to be top bird in the "Missed One Bloody Week" competition. Purplepault69, twice a weekly winner and third in the current form table, lurks like a rampant aubergine in 13th.

Wolf In Wednesbury has slipped in the race to win the "Wolf In Somewhere" mini-league, but can strike from 14th to finally claim a coveted weekly prize if the stars align, and Huge In Sharjah has demonstrated the stamina of a hefty man in wet corduroy trousers to lodge three chunky rounds in a row to reach 15th. Celebrity Wolf, once a top ten star, has become the victim of cancel culture, missing a first week last time out to slide to an Amber Heard-ish 16th, while Geowolf, so often an unlucky loser over the weeks, is jostling with Miniwolf for 17th place.

Recent spurts from John de Wolf's Hairdryer (surely an electrical hazard) has seen him get a foothold in the top 20 at 19th, and a scattering of missed weeks sees another previous top ten contender Neves Wolf tumble to 20th ahead of his move to Man Utd. SuperGran, so infamously getting by with a little help from her friends in the prediction league, can't quite crack the big time in 21st, but there's still two weeks to fulfill the dream. SingYourHeartsOut's recent weekly glory edges him ahead of Lonewolf into 22nd place, but as Lonewolf has missed a couple of weeks, that means all eyes are now on Leominster Wolf and his Box of Shame in 24th, as the lowest ranked of the players who have competed every week.

Ewok Vs Wolf, last week's champion, is down in 25th, because ewoks famously don't give a ****, and Boon2 has been drunk and setting fire to random bushes since winning the Cup and sits in 26th. SmokeyGB and Wolvessince63 have each missed a couple of weeks but have competed heartily enough to remain in the top 30 overall, and latecomer Don Corleone is in 30th place, now just a few points behind the lamented SuziQ, who disappeared into the dandelions seven weeks ago.
