maybe the policy of playing the younger lads against their older counterparts means they are being knocked about a bit
I'm not sure if u18s are the same as u23s, but from what I've seen there isn't much of the "physical, rough em up" stuff in youth football.

It could be that they aren't able to exert the same physical effort to match lads a year or two older and so end up over-exerting. Without knowing the details though it's pure speculation

just going on they have injuries owing to knocks.doesn`t mean they are being roughed up.
don`t see enough youth football to really comment further it was just a possible explanation.probably just a run of bad luck.
good to see pinnington mentioned just need to see joseph joseph now!

Ollie Tipton missed a 91st minute penalty.

The Leeds player who got a hattrick had 3 goals in 5 games before today's game. He's only 16, one to keep an eye on

Not surprised with the result. Under 18's in tatters with all of the injuries they have.
It was already a very young group to begin with, lots of 14/15 year olds in the squad currently, always going to be difficult.

u18's head coach Steve Davis confirms 12 players now out injured for the u18's. Quite a few with back injuries apparently. Both Tyler Roberts and Ty Barnett out for the rest of the season. Both got injured in the same game. Concerning so many out with quite a few with long term injuries.

Today the u23's play Leeds at home ko 1pm. 3rd vs 1st clash - if we win we'll be 11 points behind Leeds with 3 games in hand - very difficult ask to catch them up. The 3 previous meetings have all ended in draws. The game in September saw us go 2-0 down before goals from Cundle and Corbeanu earnt us a point.

The team.... good to see Sadou Diallo back.

No idea who Louie Moulden is but a quick google suggests he might be a 19 yo goalkeeper from Man City. Maybe on trial?

game can be watched on the app or YouTube

thanks for confirming, apparently we're the third u23 side he's started a game for in the last month so he's obviously doing the rounds
so could play for us one week and against us the next and the next until the end of the season. weird but if he`s been released by city good luck to him.

don't think he's been released - I think one of the 3 was Man City as he was called back in between. . Derby being the other

Very interesting to know we have the youngest average squad in 19 in comparison to Leeds at 21

I dunno, is it? Is it really that much of a risk giving the likes of Otasowie and Vitinha game time? They barely ever play, even from the bench.
Your also taking them out of the most important training session of the week, the friday one.

Leeds have a very young team but with the two older players, Rodrigo and Berardi, taking the average up.

More often than not they are in covid times.
Nah most games have been on Monday/Tuesday. But either way, I think players would benefit from playing a game for the U23's every now and then, not necessarily every game.

Whats the point in playing overage / 1st team players in development squads? They won't learn anything and deprive other youngsters of game time

The youngsters might learn/ be inspired from those a little ahead of them, and those “fringe players” that are getting game time in the U23s will be staying match fit/sharp - you can’t get to or stay at the top of your game/skills on the training pitch alone you need to practice in competitive environments when others are trying to stop you.

We have u23s regularly included in the first team squads. The way our players slot straight back in after being out injured suggest that what we do in training keeps our players plenty sharp.

If anything, I'd say it damages players who are a level above u23 football because they find it too easy.

I don`t think we have a small squad anyway..we have used 25 players who have started a game.
with podence back soon we will have 2 injured players and 3 not at wolves at the moment.
we have had 30 players who have been subs.
what we have is nuno`s preferred squad of about 16 players.
If everybody agrees even if we don`t get another point we are safe then a few more injuries won`t make much difference
