I’m sure there will be plenty of solidarity for the poor downtrodden rail workers on the Mix. Perhaps they will join them on the picket line down at Wolverhampton train station.

What a strange thing to say.

Personally I have solidarity with them but I’ll be too busy driving to and from the game, meeting mates in the pub and watching the game. I gave up on trains a year or so ago due to the huge price hikes which, it appears, seem to go to shareholders as dividends rather than the workers.

I don’t as I’m sure you’ve guessed. Try living in a place where you rely on trains to get to work, and then suffer years of strikes, and perhaps you’d think about whether you still have solidarity. Now my son has that pleasure, and he’s equally ****ed off. But this is the football thread, not the socialist workers news thread, so I’ll leave it at that.

You shouldn’t jump to conclusions. I lived and worked in London for many years until quite recently, relying on trains and tubes, and so I’ve encountered much of what you mention.

I remember when they changed from the old carriages to sprinters and used the justification of green transport as a reason to introduce new carriages.
I used to chuck my bike in the old guard's carriage that every train had.....there used to be about 5 bikes on each train to and from New Street, coming home at about 5pm you could get about 10-15 bikes.
When they changed the trains they said they couldn't carry the bikes anymore....but they said they'd put bike racks at the train station to encourage green transportation :)
Nobody ever answered the obvious question "what happens when we get to the other end and have no bike to ride on to work"? In the end i gave up and bought a motorbike.
Meanwhile, 30 years later these lines are still diesel and the trains can't make use of electrification.

Is there any end looking likely to this? Weren’t they offered 7%? I know I’m being selfish but it’s starting to really **** me off now.

This area is served by Southern. We had a decade of strikes and reduced services while the union resisted changes to the guards role. Zero solidarity shown by the rail workers for the millions of other workers, many on much lower salaries than they, who suffered that for years. After that, there is very little support for train workers from commuters around here.

Anyway, my gripes are not as relevant as the impact on fans getting to our upcoming fixtures. This dispute isn’t going to end anytime soon, and there is little doubt further strikes will be called affecting both our home and away fixtures. Let’s see how long it takes for others to get cheesed off.

They'll probably already be cheesed off at their own energy bills increasing whilst energy companies announce record profits and the cost of living crisis beginning to bite whilst their own wages stagnate. Its not the people who are striking they want to be aiming their ire at, but I'm pretty sure that's where the robber barons who are steadily increasing their lots want everyone to look.

Edit - just seen bod's message. I'll stick to moaning about Southern elsewhere!

Yeah, last season was pretty bad, and I was considering not renewing just because of that.

Probably will have to miss Fulham as I have no real way of getting up.

There will be people driving up from London so why not set up a thread asking about car sharing? I’ve recently moved back up north but was regularly driving up last season and got a lift with a fellow Mixer for one of the last games of the season.

I'd give you a lift if you weren't so far out of the way. Unless you have access to a boat and can make your way across the water to Lytham?
Just checked and TfW trains operating normally next week so maybe see you at some point.
