I know he got subbed off for big Sasa yesterday after we went in search of a winner, but I don't think it can be understated what an impact he's had since coming back into the side. Terrific defender and very rarely puts a foot wrong.

We had a major upturn in our fortunes when Julen started playing him at left back last season, which appeared a bizarre decision at first but was very quickly vindicated.

To me, the back three of Kilman-Dawson-Toti seem very set in stone as the foundation of this side. The midfield two might change, the wing backs might change, but we still have that bedrock to work from that will make us hard to beat. Santiago Bueno will have his work cut out trying to break into this starting eleven now.

not least because he is utter rubbish (like most of our panic buys). Hobbs really is a waste of space.

Absolutely spot on!

Toti deserves enormous credit for the way he has seamlessly fitted into our back three, which has to be set in stone for the rest of the season. We look much more solid at the back and our full backs/wing backs can get further forward knowing they have cover behind them. Makes us more threatening up front, which is why we are scoring more goals imo.

Toti seems to be an excellent clubman as well, when watching the training videos. He deserves all the credit he gets.

Thought he and RAN were at fault for the Bournemouth goal both out of position everything was coming down the left early til O’Neil rejigged things.
Toti is playing well but CB is his position.

Seems like a very humble guy who is happy to be here. Seems to get on well with his teammates. Not read about anybody complaining about him. He is still young and can only improve. Quick and strong, has good physique and his ball-playing skills, though not the best, are not as bad as some would claim.
Does tend to lose concentration at times and his positioning can be wayward.
But all in all he’s not let anyone down and his trajectory is only up. A real asset to our defence who since we switched to a 3 with Toti in there to add brawn and pace, has been solidified.
Well done young man! His call up to the Portugal team too was well-earned.

To think just 12 months ago Lage chose to start Neves at centre back rather than give this guy a shot. It probably is what ultimately got him fired.

Vindication of our Grasshoppers link too, I think. He got 50 games for them: crucial at that stage of his career.

I read this before I saw who posted it and knew instantly your name would at the top
yes. i need to learn how to phrase things less directly. Of course I do have a bit of a point though… how come we bought in so many players that GON doesn’t play (and I presume by that, didn’t want?)

There were signings that Nuno took time to involve significantly in first team action.

We brought in 4 players at the end of the window following the sale of Nunes and the prime aim was to strengthen the squad:-

Bellegarde - selected straight away in the starting XI then got a stupid suspension and now injury.
Enso - an 18 year-old kid who needs time to settle in a new country. One for the future
Santi Bueno - arrived with an injury, having played no minutes at all this season, and looked rusty on his debut. Still only 24 which is young for a CB. We needed cover in that position and that's what he is. Also allowed Pond to go out on loan.
Doyle - had a small injury when he first arrived, then was ineligible for the game versus his parent club. Still a young lad but will undoubtedly grow with more minutes and offers something different to Lemina, Bouba and Gomes. Will be a key player (sometimes from the bench) against teams who 'sit in'.

Valid reasons for all of them not being regular starters yet and there is no way that GON didn't want them.

Nunes was turned into cover at midfield and CB plus a longer-term wing prospect (whom I have a decent feeling about, but he's very raw). Having another viable CB lets the manager play 3atb, which has been working out....and then Doyle literally just showed his worth as an interesting prem-viable midfield option.

Idk, seems not useless to me.

that cannot be RAN fault, the system with 3 at the back is so that when the wing backs are out of position during a quick transition from opposing team, then Toti had to cover. Toti was in no mans land when brooks played that through ball, his positioning was at fault. But the defence does looks more solid on the left hand side.

I thought that at the time of their goal, we were playing 4 at the back with Toti at LB and RAN left midfield? Who gave their midfield space to play the through ball?

Frankly it was just a bad moment. I don't care if we are playing 4 or 5 at the back, we weren't organized in a shape everyone was playing. I'm sure the gaffer will have some things to say about it during the week, and I would be surprised if we see something like that shape-wise vs Newcastle.

Toti has done well and long may it continue. However S.bueno will eventually push him out the team imo. But great to have depth at the back.

S Bueno will definitely have to feature soon.....with the inevitable suspension through bookings.....might be wise to bed him in a bit, as apposed to chucking him in....

Amazing play for his assist today, taking on a few players before a sweet reverse pass into Hwang - Who knew he had that in his locker!

He gives his absolute all for the badge when he steps out onto the pitch, & doesn't moan when he's had to sit out for a while on the sidelines - Exactly the kind of player & attitude that you want in the squad.

He's a different kind of player, but guys like him and Saiss are the ones I really do love!

Toti Gomes is absolutely fundamental to Wolves and without him, simply, we struggle to win football matches. His importance is being massively down played by most- he was key throughout the Lopetegui success and now Gary has cottoned on too.

He allows us to switch seamlessly between a 5 and a 4. He is man marking the likes of Foden and Almiron out of games. He is our Gvardiol, our Udogie, our Burn, our Ben White.

Please, please, please Gary- don't drop this guy ever again!
