I mean it was pretty cool seeing our Wolves logo at the MSI finals (EG made the final 4) but E-Sports is a money drain too so would much rather it spent on the football team.

You don't need to care about eSports. It's been explored to help the football team at the end of the day as another source of income.

Most organisations and tournament organisers operate at a loss.

Only esport I know of that doesnt is probably DOTA 2, which we dont have a side in (unlike PSG because they know where the money is to be made). Mainly because the prize pool increasing every year through the DOTA 2 community. The last TI winners (the biggest DOTA tournament of the year) won a lovely $18,208,300 as a team. According to one website which is reliable for this stuff, each member on that team earned $3.7m from that one tournament, How much went to the team im not sure.

Help fosun gain more income by spreading the brand.

eSports doesn't count towards FFP.

6. Your opinion ( ;) )

Jeff has constantly mentioned it in his Ask Wolves video - why doesn't he stfu about it when he clearly knows it's a) fallacy and b) we want to hear about the soccer, sorry, football on the pitch. If eSports is really the life raft we're clinging to then god help us, and if he truly beleives in it, then he can do it quietly in the background and keep it out of these end of season videos when we've been **** ON THE PITCH for months.

Only sensible reaction would to bully the kids online that watch eSports. So we lose all the sponsorships and they give up on it.

Except eSports is good for the Wolves brand

The big problem is that I hate this aspect of football. I hate Man Utd's official tractor sponsorship (genuinely exists), I hate everything to do with modern football.

Sadly...I quite like eSports(!) Even though I suck

I'm not interested in the brand. I can understand it if it was a secondary aspect with the football taking the main stage.

But the other interests are taking too much of a main stage.

The eSports fans don't mean as much as the real football fans.

The Korean fans that only watch the highlights because of Hwang , that will disappear when he does, don't matter as much as the real fans.

Just the wording of "e-sports" irrationally annoys me. It's computer games/gaming, not a sport. Nerds and screens (no porn) would be just as apt a description.
You'll be surprised to know professional footballer players play these games online on a platform called Twitch
Pretty sure Pique plays fifa online, even people like Snoop Dogg or whatever his name is these days play the American football game on there.

Theres a lot of money to be made even at a low level which is crazy and the nerd's jab is very old fashioned to say the least. Is it a sport maybe not? but in the same light is horse racing - the horse does all the damn work! thats the agrument I have with my wife all the time

e sports is only going to grow and especially as VR becomes more advanced.

If its good for the club why not nobodys asking you to follow it.

Not surprised at all seeing as I used to be into PC gaming, and an ex girlfriend was a member of a rather large girl gaming clan, as they called themselves. I still don't regard it as a sport though.

How much does it make, is it significant - - we keep hearing about it?
My question as well..
How much has E-Sports contributed on it's own merits to Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club?
I can guess (£0) maybe to Fosun sports group yes but to the club itself i question.

It's been explored to make money for Fosun, where are the accounts to prove the money if any goes direct to the Wolves ?
I would like to see such proof. The way I see it is the only way wolves will make money is by people seeing our branding, getting an interest in the club and then buying merchandise.
There's no doubt that millions of people could be exposed to our branding that otherwise wouldn't be, but it must be a tiny number out of those who then go on to buy wolves merchandise.
It's my belief that, in this case, it is wolves branding being used to make money for fosun and not the club. Anything we (as in the club) get is just a small bonus.

As just about anyone knows, the best advertisement for any team is success on the pitch.

Do e sports "players" compete against others while others watch?

If yes, it's no less a sport than snooker or darts. Not all sports get you sweaty and in close proximity to members of the same sex.

It's all a bit like the Royal Family. We're told its existence benefits the country financially, but no one can really substantiate that in a quantifiable manner.
And yet they can. I have no interest in them whatsoever, but tourists do! In 2017 Brand Finance did a report that estimated they bought in £1.7bn that year

I have to admit it means nothing to me, but when they said the game Fortnite sold £4b (yes billion) of in game purchases - get your head round that a ****ing video game had total turnover of £5b - some thing like 30 times wolves turnover.

Like I said it means nothing to me as I don't play, but god I want Jeff to tap into it if it means a couple of extra players every year.

No, it's competitive gaming. Nothing more than that.
you forgot to say FACT ;)

Its very generational....would be interesting to see the ages next to each of these posts.

I'm 40 and hadn't played games in years until covid happened now find it a good way of chatting with mates couple times a week.
I find it all fasinating as my background is broadcast tv anyway so interesting to see where its all heading.

My opinion is very much in both camps I don't think its a sport but there is a lot of skill needed to do it at a high level.
It does open up discussions about was is classed as a sport is it an athlete physically or mentally.

The money direct from esports will probably be very little if anything but it’s more the marketing ‘ reach’ that is the prized outcome here - same with the music. When sponsors/partnerships are up for grabs having the Wolves brand and being associated with it across the combined platforms of football, esports etc will be far more attractive than to just the 30k fans that come to matches or even the 2m who follow Wolves on social media. It also opens up a different demographic which is also appealing to sponsors
