No he doesn't. He needs a good amount of minutes at the centre of a three.

He needs to show high levels of performance when called upon, he needs to show he's the second best option for England when/if they play a three.

Coady is a backup for a specialist position for England. His time on the field needs to be in that specialist position.
He ought to be first choice for England in the central role.
Though strangely I think he has probably played considerably more international minutes in a back 4 than he has as a sweeper. ( usually against relatively poor opposition)

Coady is a no brainer signing for any team who wants to play with a back 3. He is one of the best sweepers going around.
Agree although, if he did go, he’s still at the risk of the team he goes to having a bad run, sacking their manager and getting another one that prefers to play back 4 so don’t think it’s a compelling case for a huge outlay for a team that currently plays back 3 if you can get someone who would be just as good in a back 4 or back 3.

Be absolutely mad to even contemplate such a move!!!
If he doesn’t fit into the new structure and formations now is the best time to cash in.

He has been the weakest of the main 4 CB’s so far during this pre-season and as a current England squad player he has great sale value for another CB and add extra funds to the pot for the other two needed positions.

Selling boly won’t give us the amount of cash we probably need to move forward with plans or buy the players higher on the shopping list.

Also I think losing coady hurts us a lot less than losing kilman not just this season but also the long run too.

I say these things from a “we must sell to buy” approach that keeps being mentioned.

Put on a personal stand point it Would be a real shame to see coady leave as he is a model professional who cares deeply for the club and us as fans.

If we sold Coady, it would simply mean we would need to buy another defender as Mosquera and Toti aren’t ready and Boly has struggled massively since Covid. Also means we don’t have the flexibility to switch back to a three in some games.

Would be a really poor decision.
It would sting to lose him but if the rumoured incoming is Stefan Posch who is a tall, quick and mobile CB who can play RWB then it would be a decent move as we would have cash to play with extra for another position and a young versatile player with good potential sell on fees based upon the self sustainability model we have to use.

Would be a real shame to lose a modern legend and fantastic servant of the club though……

I don't think the captaincy is as important to players as you seem to think it is.

At the risk of fence sitting, I both agree and disagree. The captaincy isn’t anywhere near as important in Europe as here. With some exceptions. However, because it’s so important here, players who come over and spend a lot of time here start to see it as important. So Neves absolutely sees the captaincy as a big deal.

Pastel de Nata from Wolverhampton?

They have kept many a portugeezer happy in our squad so they must be as good as back at home!

But I think the fact we can offer a support system and Portuguese community at the club will help a fair bit in all seriousness and the fact he knows Rueben, Joao, Jose and from the Portugal squad and proabably Podence, Neto and Nelson too it could be another major selling point for us to help land him.

You've gotta feel for Coady, his dream will be to make Qatar squad, and he'll barely play if we switch to a back 4. He's club captain too so a massive decision for Lage.

Well then maybe there is something too it… Newcastle, Everton & Spurs apparently made approaches but not sure if it is one or these clubs.

Time will tell. Either way he’s been a good leader for us so I’m happy if he stays
I'm in favour of a sale if a really good price and plans to play 4 at the back... but not a week before the season starts!

This pub's rumours are as bad as those in my own local. In there no one can understand why Wolves fans are so much against Lage and it's just a matter of who has been identified as his replacement. Adama is a game changer who we won't play yet we want a fortune for if a buyer enquires, and MGW is still favourites to go to Forest.
Not sure what will be the case over the next few days, but as I won't be there until midweek no doubt this thread will provide all the rumours I need! Cheers. ;)

I've been thinking about this a lot.
Does anybody else on here think (like me) that we need a new CM and a new striker ?
Hmmm, come to think of it I am worried that we might start the season with a wafer thing squad. Why haven't we got in all the players we need for pre season?

If Coady leaving meant to Neves signed a new deal as captain and the money was spent to bring in Nunes or another good CM/Striker would people be for or against it?

I think Coady’s a great lad and a huge asset for the club even when not playing, but something like that would be hard to turn down.

I wonder who’d be in for him?
A club that want to remain in the Premier league.

If we want to use this sell to buy model and re-invest, then depending on the fee Kilman is probably the player we could get huge money for. I keep saying it but he is a good age, English and left footed. Thats the kind of player in England that will fetch a lot more than he is worth. I dont disagree with you about Coady, but we would probably need to sell Coady, Adama and probably 1 other backup player to get decent money to sign somebody like Nunes for example.

Would be gutted to lose Coady. Also think it’s too soon, given the chances that we have to revert to the tried and tested 5 at the back if things don’t go to plan as the season unfolds. If 4 at the back works and Coady doesn’t get a look in, then is the time to think about a move imo.

No need to get rid of coady.

Plenty more to offer this club and they'll be times when we need him through the season.

His got to fight his way back into the team simple. Gotta love how getting your place back doesn't get mentioned much more its just about selling

It will be a sad day indeed if/when Coady goes.
However are we really in a position where we can turn down a good offer for a player, that might only be a backup player this season?
