Rob Edwards - Wolves manager

No problem with the contract length. He's here to get us promoted next season just as much as he is to try and keep us up this. Repeatedly swapping managers is how we've ended up with such a weird unbalanced squad.

Stick to a manager for a few years, let him mould the team into something that resembles a plan over 3-4 transfer windows and then if/when we sack him bring in someone who plays similarly so that current players can slot in easier without needing a total refresh. That's the whole point of a sporting director/recruitment team.

This is all well and good, but if here is any barometer, fans aren't going to accept keeping a manager for years and backing them if we can't ever win a match.

To be fair I don't know a fanbase in the entire country who would have put up with what Wolves fans have had to put up with the last 4 years without going into meltdown long before we did. It's only now that we seem to have reached tipping point, despite almost certainly finding ourselves in the bottom 3 at Christmas in 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

He can certainly do a "serious looking earnest frown" with the best of them.

What's backing in January worth if we're 15 points adrift by the time due to a poor sumner? Also, with our quality of recruitment and no DoF, financial backing isn't the only issue
So will Fosun give 3 other players in the Fer Lopez Jhon Arias or Jackson Thatchoua mould?
If we were to have any chance of survival we need to have a window at least as good as when Lopetegui had just arrived and I can't see that happen.

But good luck to Edwards. He certainly will get my backing even he wasn't my dream choice as manager.

This all rather depends on RE's performance though. If he manages to get us into the low 30s from here but it's not quite enough, perhaps the argument can be made, but if he's substantially below 30 I don't see how he remains, as he will likely have lost the dressing room by then. If he's in-and-around the Derby record, his position will be absolutely untenable.

Then we may have the farce of paying compensation to O'Neil, Pereira and Edwards, all at the same time. Which even for Shi, would be depths unplumbed.

I think this is the main thing I can't really get my head round.

The possibilities are
1. We're still **** for the rest of the season and he gets sacked.
2. He turns us round a bit, we get relegated on 25 points, he keeps his job, we sell all the decent players to make the books work. The **** show starts again.

The idea of
3. He gets these players going again, we add half a dozen more in January for £120m even though persuading them to come will be hard, we avoid relegation, is madness as it almost certainly won't work and we'll be heading for financial meltdown.

So if we plan to back him in the window, who from the present squad will go out to make way for these new players ?, I will start by suggesting Arias, Hwang, Hoever, Jackson, Toti, Sa or Johnstone, JSL, what's your thoughts guys ?.

Sadly not Hwang, too important for their Kocowa deal. How else does he keep getting in the team?

It is anticipated that the former Watford and Luton Town head coach will arrive at Wolves tomorrow ahead of signing his contract, after an agreement between the clubs that was led by Matt Wild, the general manager of football operations at Wolves, and Middlesbrough CEO Neil Bausor.
Matt Jackson, who joined the club in 2021 and who took on the newly-defined position as director of player recruitment and development this summer, is likely to be the most senior football executive now at the club and deliberations will continue over adding to the group

.Had there been a clamour from proven Premier League coaches willing to take over from Pereira, Wolves would not have flirted with the toxic option of bringing back O’Neil less than a year after he was sacked.
And they would probably not have turned to Edwards at this time. He is a coach they always envisaged turning to at some point, but giving him a shot in the midst of such a turbulent time is not an ideal moment for Edwards or the club to reunite.

I would hope that if it is 3.5 years then there's some sort of clause like in VPs about the amount t of compensation if we have to sack him a lot earlier than that. But agree also good to have some stability if we go down and give time to rebuild.

But good luck and hope he can make a good go of it.
