According to The Sun, Arsenal and Barcelona have been priced out of a move to sign Wolves playmaker Ruben Neves.

What’s the story?

Well, both Mikel Arteta and Xavi were keen to sign the Portugal international this summer, although Wolves look to have won their battle to fend off interest.

The Premier League outfit are demanding £75m to sell their No.8, who they paid just £15m to sign from Porto in 2017.

That is a sum deemed too costly by Arsenal and Barcelona, while Manchester United have also been put off as well.

Those interested in signing Neves believe he is worth closer to £45m, although seeing as he has a contract at Molineux until June 2024, Wolves are entitled to demand whatever they want.

The Sun add that Joao Moutinho is almost certain to leave Molineux, despite the fact Bruno Lage wants him to stay.

Wolves won’t want to lose their two best central midfield options in one window, so you can see why they’re demanding such a lofty sum for Neves.

In 36 appearances last season, the 25-year-old scored four goals while also providing two assists.

Arsenal & Barcelona need help

In our view, Arsenal and Barcelona will need Neves himself to push for a move if they want any chance of prising him away from Wolves.

The Old Gold are clearly happy to stand firm on their £75m valuation, so we believe it will take a transfer request from the midfielder himself to lower that sum and keep the Gunners interested.

If he doesn’t, we see no reason why Wolves would decrease their valuation.

Neves is a superb player, who probably still has his best years ahead of him at the age of 25, so as things stand, the £75m asking price is justified.

After Manchester United paid £80m for Harry Maguire, Premier League clubs outside of the traditional top six are pretty much entitled to demand whatever they want.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as things could still change.
