Leeds United’s under 21s started their Premier League 2 campaign with a resounding 5-2 win at Derby last night.

Ahead of the Whites getting their own Premier League campaign under way against Wolves today, a young Leeds side went to Pride Park and romped to an impressive victory. It will be something that pleased Jesse Marsch, who has been open in his thoughts about using young players this coming season.

Indeed, as we know, Marsch only said yesterday that midfield duo Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi could both get minutes in the first-team this year. And based on last night, Gyabi might not be far away at all.

Per a report from Leeds Live, Gyabi was one of the standout players in midfield and was given an 8/10 rating for his showing at Pride Park, with a nice write up of his performance to go along with it.

“Oozed class in the middle of the park. Ran Derby ragged with his movement and first touch,” Leeds Live wrote.

Fellow young starlet Gray was also given an 8/10 rating and was labelled as being ‘very influential’ throughout for Leeds.

Certainly, on this performance alone, Gyabi might quickly outgrow 21s football and be knocking on that door of Jesse Marsch.

TBR’s View: Gyabi Can Impact Leeds This Season

At the end of the day, you don’t come over from Manchester City and not have a bit about you, and Darko Gyabi showed just what he is all about with that performance last night.

There is a reason Jesse Marsch has namechecked him as being one to watch this season and on this evidence, Leeds have some player on their hands.

Gyabi – as well as the aforementioned Gray – can really have an impact if they want this season and with a busy Premier League schedule to come, Marsch might well give them those minutes he mentioned.
